AI Presentations in Your Own Template: Copilot, Gemini, Gamma and More (2026)

Every major AI slide tool now says it can use your template, but they mean different things: a colour theme, your real slide master, or a look copied from a reference file. Here is what each route carries over, who can use it and how to set it up, from Copilot's new Brand Kit to Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, Gamma and Canva, plus a free way to build a deck in the style of any template, PDF or PPTX.

TL;DR: AI slides in your own template, route by route

  • "Use my template" can mean three things: a theme (colours, fonts, logo), your real slide master and layouts, or a look copied from a reference file. Many tools only do the first.
  • Microsoft 365 companies: Copilot in PowerPoint builds from your open template or an official Brand Kit. Since September 2026, brand managers can lock it to the template's layouts and publish written Brand Skills. You need Copilot licensing and an IT-appointed brand manager.
  • Google Workspace teams: Gemini in Google Slides can "match presentation style" from a deck in Drive (paid plans, desktop, English).
  • Template open in PowerPoint: Claude for PowerPoint reads the slide master, layouts, fonts and colours (Pro and up). ChatGPT's @Presentations follows a saved template or reference deck, depending on plan.
  • Free, from a template or any PDF/PPTX: NOXI builds the new deck in the style of the file you upload and exports a PowerPoint that matches the slides. No licence, card or watermark.

Quick answer: yes, AI can build a presentation in your own template. Copilot in PowerPoint uses your company's Brand Kit or open template, Gemini in Google Slides matches a deck from Drive, and Claude for PowerPoint reads your slide master, all on paid plans. For a free route that also takes any PDF or PPTX as the style reference, use NOXI.

Disclosure: NOXI publishes this guide and is one of the routes compared. It has one section of its own, and the rest of the guide applies whichever tool you choose. We checked every fact about other vendors on their own documentation, pricing pages or admin notices on 28 September 2026. We ran no hands-on benchmark. Sources are listed at the end.

Definition What is an AI presentation in your own template? An AI presentation in your own template is a deck that an AI tool generates while following your existing design, such as a PowerPoint template, a Google Slides theme, a brand kit or a reference file. The output uses your colours, fonts, logo and slide layouts instead of the tool's default themes, so it looks like your organisation made it.

What "use my template" really means: theme, layouts, master, rules

It can mean four things, and tools differ mainly in how deep they go: a theme (colours and fonts), the slide master and layouts (your actual slide designs), brand rules (how slides are used) or a visual reference (the look of any file).

Microsoft's own definitions are a useful baseline. A theme is "a predefined set of colors, fonts, and visual effects". A template is "a theme plus some content for a specific purpose", such as a sales deck or a lesson. The slide master is the top slide in a hierarchy that stores the theme and the slide layouts: background, colours, fonts, effects, and the size and position of every placeholder. Your title slide, section dividers, two-column layout and legal footer all live there.

3. Brand rulesSlide order, tone, dos and don'tsCopilot Brand Skills, Claude Instructions
4. Visual referenceThe look of a fileNOXI, Gemini, Genspark, ChatGPT

Why it matters: with a theme-only import, the colours are right but the slides use the tool's own layouts, so your section dividers, source lines and footers don't appear. Tools that read the master fill your placeholders. Rules stop ten bullets landing on a slide your brand team caps at four. A visual reference helps when you have no clean template at all, only last year's board pack as a PDF or a brand-guidelines document.

Copilot in PowerPoint: Brand Kit, strict brand adherence and Brand Skills

For Microsoft 365 companies, Copilot in PowerPoint goes deepest. It builds from your open template, and since September 2026 it can follow an official Brand Kit that brand managers lock to the template's layouts and extend with written Brand Skills.

The quick way: start from your template file

The basic route needs no setup. Microsoft's support page says to open your organisation's template before creating a presentation with Copilot, because "Copilot will use existing layouts to build a presentation for you." Open the template (File → New, then Personal, Shared or Custom), open Copilot and describe the deck or attach the source document.

Brand Kit: templates, fonts and assets in one place

Microsoft announced Brand Kit and Skills in Copilot in PowerPoint on 14 September 2026. When you select a Brand Kit, Copilot uses that kit's approved templates, colours, fonts and assets; Microsoft says the aim is to replicate how your organisation builds presentations, not just apply a theme. Brand Kit works in PowerPoint for Windows, Mac and the web, but the templates must be made in PowerPoint for Windows or Mac.

Official kits are created in the Microsoft Copilot app under Create → More… → Brand kits → New Brand kit. Two gates apply: creating them "requires a Microsoft Copilot Premium license", and only brand managers designated by IT can create or edit them. The role can take up to 24 hours to apply. An organisation can keep several kits, one per sub-brand.

Strict brand adherence and note instructions

Brand managers can switch on strict brand adherence. In Microsoft's words: "Your template is always followed. Copilot uses only the template and slide master layouts and can't add or remove placeholder content." They can also write note instructions in a template slide's speaker notes, such as "Always include this cover slide" or "Keep the text minimal", and Copilot reads them each time it generates a deck. Only the kit owner or a brand manager can change these settings, and end users can't override them.

Brand Skills (rolling out now)

Microsoft notice MC1473166 (16 September 2026) adds Brand Skills to Copilot in desktop PowerPoint. Brand managers upload custom presentation skills as a Markdown (.md) or .zip file to the Brand Kit: reusable written instructions such as "every deck opens with a one-sentence verdict". Frontier users get them from mid September; general availability worldwide runs to the end of September 2026. Nothing switches on by itself: a brand manager has to upload and publish each skill.

Brand Kit not showing? Check these five things

Best for: Microsoft 365 organisations whose brand team wants every deck locked to approved layouts. For other in-PowerPoint options, see our ranking of AI add-ins for PowerPoint; for the suite-level choice, Copilot vs Gemini vs ChatGPT.

Gemini in Google Slides: "Match presentation style"

Gemini in Google Slides can generate a full deck and match the style of another presentation you pick from Drive. It's the natural route for Google Workspace teams, and it runs on paid plans, on desktop and in English.

Full-deck generation began rolling out on 29 June 2026 and can "ground the presentation in existing content from Google Drive, match the style of another presentation, and build fully editable slides". A 23 July post added that you can "select an existing deck for Gemini to automatically match your brand's style", then ask Gemini to adjust layouts or swap colour schemes.

How to do it, per Google's help page:

  1. Open Google Slides and start a new presentation with Gemini from the start screen.
  2. Describe the deck in the side panel: topic, audience, number of slides.
  3. Click Match presentation style → Add from Drive, select your branded deck and click Add. You can also add reference files for content.
  4. Answer Gemini's follow-up questions, review the outline, then approve it. Keep the tab open until the slides are generated.

Who gets it: Business and Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, AI Pro for Education and the AI Expanded Access add-on. At launch the feature supports English (United States) only, and the help page says it's "currently available on desktop and in English only". Personal accounts can try it through Google Workspace Experiments. Google doesn't say which file types can serve as the style deck, so if your template is a .pptx, save a Google Slides copy first. Our guide to AI for Google Slides covers setup and the "not showing" fixes.

ChatGPT and Claude: saved templates, reference decks and the slide master

Both assistants now work with templates, but in different places. ChatGPT can save your PowerPoint as a reusable template inside ChatGPT. Claude works inside PowerPoint and reads the slide master of the deck you have open.

ChatGPT: @Presentations and Template Creator

OpenAI's guide says @Presentations can "create, edit, and preview Google Slides or PowerPoint presentations from source material, a reference deck, or a template". A Template Creator skill can "turn an existing PowerPoint presentation into a reusable presentation template", saved to the Template Gallery, and ChatGPT can "preserve approved figures and branding". These features are part of ChatGPT Work, launched on 9 July 2026 for Pro, Enterprise and Edu first, then Plus and Business; OpenAI notes that skills "can vary by plan and workspace". Separately, the ChatGPT for PowerPoint add-in (beta since 21 May 2026, Free plan included) works inside a deck you have open.

Claude for PowerPoint: reads your master and layouts

Claude for PowerPoint is generally available on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. It runs in PowerPoint on the web, Windows and Mac. Anthropic's documentation says it "reads the slide master, layouts, fonts, and color scheme in your deck and uses them when generating or editing slides", and it recommends applying your template before you ask for content. Brand rules such as "always use one-line bullets" go in the add-in's Instructions field, and reusable Skills are supported too. If you're weighing Claude's other slide products, our Claude Slides vs Gamma comparison covers them.

Gamma, Canva, Beautiful.ai and Plus AI: themes and brand kits

These design-first tools bring in your brand as a theme (colours, fonts and logo) rather than your slide master. For many decks that's enough.

Gamma. One of four ways to build a workspace theme is Import file: upload a .pptx or Google Slides deck, and Gamma detects the "theme name, primary accent color, background color, page background color, heading and body fonts, and logo". Custom fonts can be uploaded in the theme editor. Gamma "does not yet support PDF or doc uploads to the custom theme workspace", and its help page doesn't say which plan includes custom themes. Its strength: one theme covers decks, documents and web pages. More in our Gamma alternatives ranking.

Canva. Brand Kit holds logos, colours, fonts and templates. Canva's pricing page lists 1 Brand Kit with 3 colours on Free, 5 Brand Kits on Pro (US$144 a year for one person) and 100 kits with approvals on Business. Canva describes Brand Templates as "the recipe Canva AI needs alongside your Brand Kit". Its strength is one brand across slides, social posts and print.

Beautiful.ai. Pro ($14.50 a month billed annually, or $45 month to month) includes a custom theme builder to "set colors, fonts, logos, icons, footers"; Team adds workspace themes. There's a 14-day trial. Its strength is Smart Slides, which keep spacing and alignment tidy automatically.

Plus AI. This add-in works inside Google Slides and PowerPoint. The Team plan ($30 per user a month billed annually, $40 monthly) lets you "customize branding (logo, colors, and fonts)". Custom templates that "create slides using your organization's actual slides and slide masters" are an Enterprise feature. There's no free plan, only a 7-day trial with 1,000 credits.

Genspark and Manus: a deck or PDF as the style

Genspark and Manus both take a file as the style reference. Genspark turns a PowerPoint or PDF into a reusable Skill, and Manus adopts the colours, fonts and layouts of a PowerPoint template you upload.

Genspark. Its help centre says you can "upload a PowerPoint or PDF to turn your existing deck into a reusable Skill", for example a client's brand for all their decks. Export to PDF, PPTX or Google Slides is "available for Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise users". Its own slide model, Gen-1 Slides, launched on 10 September; see our Genspark vs Gamma comparison.

Manus. Its PowerPoint generator page says you can upload your own PowerPoint template and "Manus will adopt your brand's colors, fonts, and layouts". It exports .pptx, PDF or a web deck and runs on a freemium credit model.

How to make a presentation in your own template for free with NOXI

In NOXI, you upload the file whose look you want (your company template, or any PDF or PPTX), add your content, and NOXI generates the new deck in that style. Every feature is free: no licence tier, no brand-manager role, no card and no watermark.

The style reference doesn't have to be a clean .potx. It can be your official template, last year's board pack saved as a PDF, a brand-guidelines PDF or a deck an agency designed for you. NOXI generates the new deck in that file's style: its colours, typography, backgrounds and the way slides are laid out. It works in any language, and Arabic decks get right-to-left design: mirrored timelines, arrows and tables, proper Arabic typography and mixed Arabic/English numbers.

Claude Opus and GPT-5.5 write the content, and Nano Banana Pro generates images. NOXI researches the topic, puts a source link on the slide for each figure, and lays content out as consulting-grade analytical slides: strategy houses, funnels, Gantt timelines, scorecards and comparison tables (the method is in our guide to consulting-style slides).

Step 1 — Choose the style reference

Pick the file that best shows your look across slide types: title, section divider, text, table and image. If a colleague would recognise your company from three random pages, it's a good reference. Upload it to NOXI as the template.

Step 2 — Upload the content

Add what the deck should say: a PDF report, a Word document, an Excel or CSV export, meeting notes or images. If you attach photos of your team, product or site, say "use my photos as-is" and NOXI puts them on the slides.

Step 3 — Write a one-paragraph brief

State the audience, the purpose, the number of slides and the decision you want. Add one style line, such as "follow the uploaded file's style: colours, fonts, title position, footer and logo placement", and one content line, such as "use only my figures; research the market context and put a source link on each figure".

Step 4 — Generate, then read only the titles

Read the slide titles in a row before any details. If they don't tell the story, fix the storyline first: reorder, merge or split slides.

Step 5 — Edit by chat or by hand

Make structural changes in chat: "make slide 5 a comparison table in the same style", "use the reference's dark background for section dividers". Use the drag-and-drop editor for small moves such as a label or an image crop.

Step 6 — Export to PowerPoint, PDF or a share link

Download the .pptx for colleagues who will keep editing, a PDF for pre-reads, or share a link for quick review. The PowerPoint opens looking exactly like the slides you approved.

Exporting to PowerPoint: the file matches the slide

A deck in your template usually keeps living in PowerPoint: finance adds a slide, legal checks the footer. So the file has to open identical to what you approved and stay editable. NOXI builds the .pptx with its own export engine, rebuilding every slide as real PowerPoint objects on real 16:9 slides.

Few AI presentation tools produce a PowerPoint like this. A deck generated in your style goes straight into the company's shared drive and is edited like any other file.

Worked example: a client update in a house style you only have as a PDF (illustrative)

Illustrative Halden & Rowe is a fictional 14-person strategy boutique, and the project below is invented. The example shows the method, not a real deck.

Halden & Rowe's brand was designed by an agency years ago, and the only file left is a 40-page credentials deck in PDF. There's no .potx and no Brand Kit. The team needs a 10-slide steering-committee update for a retail client by tomorrow. Inputs: the credentials PDF (style), interview notes (Word), survey results (CSV) and three team photos.

The brief they paste into NOXI after uploading the four files:

Example brief

Style: follow the uploaded credentials PDF exactly, including its colours, fonts, title position, footer with page number and logo top left. Don't reuse its text or figures. Content: a 10-slide steering-committee update for [client] on [project], built from my interview notes and survey CSV. Use the slide list: cover, executive summary, agenda, market context, survey, interview themes, options, recommendation, roadmap, team and next steps. Rules: titles are one-sentence takeaways; no more than four bullets per slide; use only my figures, and research the market context with a source link on each external figure. Use my three team photos as-is on slides 1 and 10.

What they check before sending: cover and footer match the PDF, slide 4 has its source line, survey numbers match the CSV, and the ten titles read as one story. Then they export the .pptx for the partner's edits and a PDF pre-read.

NOXI slide: a use-case comparison table in a company's own green brand style, with the logo and deck title in the footer
Made in NOXI from a single prompt: a comparison slide in one company's own look — green palette, logo and deck title in the footer, the same system on every slide (fictional company).

How to prepare a template AI can follow

A clean template gets better results from every tool on this list, in PowerPoint and Google Slides alike. These ten checks take an afternoon.

  1. Use real placeholders, not loose text boxes.Tools that read the master fill placeholders; loose boxes aren't part of the layout.
  2. Name each layout by its job."Title + two columns", "Figure + source line", "Section divider".
  3. Keep a compact set of layouts.Delete unused and near-duplicate layouts.
  4. Define colours and fonts in the theme.Theme colours and fonts in the master, not text coloured by hand.
  5. Put fixed elements in the master.Logo, footer, page number and confidentiality line.
  6. Include one example slide per layout. With realistic text lengths, so "full" is visible.
  7. Write the rules down.A dos-and-don'ts slide, speaker-note instructions (Copilot reads them) or a Brand Skill in Markdown.
  8. Build it in desktop PowerPoint.Copilot Brand Kit needs templates made in PowerPoint for Windows or Mac.
  9. For a PDF reference, export at full quality.Include every page type: cover, divider, text, table, image, closing.
  10. Test with a five-slide prompt.Check the cover, dividers and footer before rolling it out.

For the design rules behind a good template (type scale, grid, one idea per slide), see our guide to professional presentation design.

8 prompts that keep AI on brand

Paste these into NOXI after uploading your style file, or into any tool that accepts a template. Replace the brackets.

Prompt 1 · Style from a reference file

Use the attached [file] as the style reference only. Copy its colours, fonts, title position, footer and logo placement; don't reuse its text or figures. Build a [10]-slide deck for [audience] on [topic] from my attached [report/notes]. Titles are one-sentence takeaways.

Prompt 2 · Layouts only

Use only the layouts in this template. Don't add new text boxes, shapes or colours. If content doesn't fit a layout, split it across two slides instead of shrinking the text below [18 pt]. Put every source in the footer source line.

Prompt 3 · Brand rules (Brand Skill, Instructions or a brief)

Brand rules for every deck: 1. Slide 1 is the cover layout with the client logo; slide 2 is an executive summary with the verdict in the title. 2. Maximum four bullets per slide, maximum 12 words per bullet. 3. Accent colour only for the key number on each slide. 4. Every external figure has a source line. 5. Close with a "decisions needed" slide, never "Questions?".

Prompt 4 · Restyle an old deck

Rebuild the attached old deck [file] in the style of the attached template [file]. Keep every figure, rewrite titles as one-sentence takeaways and move detail tables to an appendix.

Prompt 5 · Content from one PDF, style from another

Content: the attached [annual report PDF]. Style: the attached [brand PDF]. Build a [12]-slide board summary: verdict, five key numbers, three risks, next year's plan. Use only figures from the report and cite the page for each.

Prompt 6 · Your photos, as-is

Use my attached photos as-is on slides [1, 6 and 10]. Don't crop faces, recolour them or generate replacements. Place them where the style reference places images.

Prompt 7 · Brand check

Review this deck against the brand rules below. List every slide that breaks a rule, name the rule and the fix, then apply the fixes without changing any figures. Rules: [paste rules].

Prompt 8 · A second language in the same style

Make an Arabic version of this deck in the same style. Mirror the layout right to left, including timelines, arrows and tables, keep numbers and product names as they are, and keep the English and Arabic versions as separate decks.

6 common mistakes with AI and templates

1. Uploading a theme and expecting layouts. A theme import gives colours and fonts, not your dividers or source lines. Fix: check which level the tool reads before promising "on brand".

2. A messy template. Hand-coloured text, loose boxes and 40 near-identical layouts confuse people and AI alike. Fix: run the checklist first.

3. Not saying what to take from a reference. Without instructions, an AI may reuse a reference deck's text as well as its look. Fix: write "style only; don't reuse its text or figures".

4. Letting text shrink to fit. Crammed slides break a brand faster than a wrong colour. Fix: set a minimum font size and ask for a split instead.

5. Skipping the access check. Copilot Brand Kit creation needs a Copilot Premium licence and a brand manager; Gemini's style match needs a paid plan and English. Fix: confirm licences with IT first.

6. Judging the deck on slide 1. Covers are usually right; tables, dividers and closing slides drift. Fix: check one slide of every layout type.

The manual route: apply your template to an existing PowerPoint

If your content is written and only the look is wrong, you may not need AI. Microsoft recommends starting fresh from the template and bringing the slides in:

  1. Select File → New, open the Personal, Shared or Custom tab, choose your template and click Create.
  2. Open the old presentation, select the slides you need (Ctrl+A for all) and copy them.
  3. In the new file, right-click the thumbnail pane and paste with Use Destination Theme.
  4. Check each slide's layout (Home → Layout) and use Reset so it picks up the master's formatting.

This works well for a few dozen tidy slides. When the slides also need a new structure or sourced figures, an AI route saves the rewrite too.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI make a presentation using my own template?
Yes. Copilot in PowerPoint builds from your open template or a Brand Kit, Gemini in Google Slides matches a deck in Drive, and Claude for PowerPoint reads your slide master, all on paid plans. NOXI does it for free and accepts any PDF or PPTX as the style reference.
Can Copilot use my company's PowerPoint template?
Yes. Open your organisation's template before you ask Copilot, and it builds with the template's existing layouts. Companies can also set up an official Brand Kit; with strict brand adherence on, Copilot uses only the template and slide master layouts.
How do I set up a Brand Kit for Copilot in PowerPoint?
A brand manager designated by IT creates it in the Microsoft Copilot app under Create, More, Brand kits, New Brand kit, and adds templates built in PowerPoint for Windows or Mac. Creating official kits requires a Microsoft Copilot Premium license. Users then select the kit when they create slides with Copilot.
Why is my Copilot Brand Kit not showing in PowerPoint?
Usually it's access. Your Microsoft 365 plan may not include Copilot, or your organisation's settings may hide it. The brand manager role can take up to 24 hours to apply, and templates must be made in desktop PowerPoint. Brand Skills for desktop PowerPoint reach general availability by the end of September 2026.
Can Gemini in Google Slides use my template?
Yes, through Match presentation style. When you create a deck with Gemini, choose Add from Drive, pick an existing presentation, and Gemini matches its style. It needs an eligible paid Workspace or Google AI plan and currently works on desktop in English only.
Can Gamma use my PowerPoint template?
Partly. Gamma imports a PPTX or Google Slides file as a custom theme and detects the theme name, accent and background colours, heading and body fonts, and logo. The result is a Gamma theme, not your slide layouts, and Gamma does not accept PDFs for themes.
Can ChatGPT make slides in my template?
Yes, if your plan includes it. ChatGPT's @Presentations can build PowerPoint or Google Slides decks from a reference deck or a saved template, and its Template Creator turns an existing PowerPoint into a reusable template. OpenAI says the available skills vary by plan and workspace.
Is there a free AI that uses my own template?
Yes. NOXI is free with every feature. Upload your template or any PDF or PPTX, add your content, and NOXI generates the deck in that style, then exports a PowerPoint, a PDF or a share link with no watermark. Canva's free plan also includes one Brand Kit with three colours.
Can AI copy the style of a PDF presentation?
Yes. NOXI generates a new deck in the style of any PDF you upload, and Genspark turns a PowerPoint or PDF into a reusable style Skill, though its exports need a paid plan. Gamma's theme import does not support PDFs. Use designs you have the right to reuse.
How do I apply a template to an existing PowerPoint?
Microsoft recommends starting fresh. Create a new file from the template (File, New, then Personal, Shared or Custom), copy your old slides in, and paste them with Use Destination Theme. Then check each slide's layout and reset it so it picks up the master's formatting.
