What Gemini in Google Slides can do now (October 2026)
Gemini in Google Slides now generates a complete, editable presentation from one prompt, draws on your Drive files and can copy an existing deck's look. Many ranking pages still say it makes one slide at a time; that changed with the rollout that began on 29 June 2026.

What it does well
Native slides: Google calls the result "fully editable slides", ready for comments and co-editing. An outline you approve first: after a few follow-up questions, Gemini shows an overview, sources and a slide-by-slide outline to edit before you click Approve. Grounded in Drive: attach files with "Add sources". Your style, copied: since July it can match an existing deck, adjust layouts, swap colour schemes and rewrite specific slides. It also generates images, adds single slides and summarises decks.
Who gets it
Google's June announcement lists Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, Google AI Pro for Education and the AI Expanded Access add-on. Google's Workspace pricing comparison marks Gemini in Slides as not supported on Business Starter. Personal accounts without a paid plan can only try it through Google Workspace Experiments, a trusted-tester program. Google AI Plus ($4.99/month) isn't named in the Slides announcement, so confirm full-deck access before buying it for this.
Where it stops
Full-deck generation launched in English (United States) only, and Google's help page says it is available "on desktop and in English only". Per-user usage caps have applied since 1 August 2026. The plan lists the sources Gemini will use, mostly your Drive files; Google's pages don't describe a source link beside each figure on the slide, so check external numbers by hand. How to use Gemini in Google Slides, step by step
On an eligible plan, start from the Google Slides start screen or from "Ask Gemini" in a blank deck. These are the steps in Google's help page.
- Open Google Slides on a computer. Click Presentation on the start screen, or open a blank deck and click Ask Gemini at the top right.
- Describe the deck in the side panel: audience, slide count and the one thing it must achieve.
- Optionally add sources or a style with Add sources (Drive files) or Match presentation style.
- Answer Gemini's follow-up questions on tone, depth and focus.
- Click Next and review the plan. Rewrite any headline that doesn't make a point.
- Click Approve and keep the tab open. Google says generation can take several minutes.
- Refine slide by slide, by asking Gemini or editing by hand.

Business Starter, free Gmail accounts and Google AI Plus are not on Google's list. Check that your Google Account language is English (US). On work and school accounts, Gemini in Slides is on by default, but an admin can turn it off (Admin console › Generative AI › Gemini for Workspace); if it's missing for everyone, ask IT. Since 28 October 2025, Canvas in the Gemini app has turned a prompt or an uploaded file into slides with a theme and images, which you export to Google Slides or save as a PDF. Google lists far more editions for it, including Business Starter, Education Fundamentals and Nonprofits. Two checks: Canvas creation "isn't available to users under 18", and Google's pages don't confirm whether free personal accounts get deck generation, so check your own account.

Best for: people who want AI in the Slides sidebar, and teams split between Google Slides and PowerPoint.

Google Slides AI in other languages, including Arabic and RTL
Gemini's full-deck feature launched in English (United States) only, so presenting in Spanish, French, Arabic or any other language needs another route. Here is what each vendor says.

In right-to-left decks, layout matters more than translation: in Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi or Urdu a timeline should run right to left, arrows should flip, table columns should mirror and numbers mix scripts. In Drive, click New › File upload, choose the file, right-click it and select Open with › Google Slides. This creates a Google Slides copy and keeps your original .pptx.
2. Convert every upload automatically
If you import decks often, open drive.google.com/drive/settings on a computer and tick Convert uploads to Google Docs editor format. Every PowerPoint you upload then becomes a Google Slides file.
3. Add slides to a deck you already have

- Yes, on some plans. OpenAI's help page says the @Presentations skill creates and edits Google Slides or PowerPoint decks, and the Google Drive plugin can create or update native Google Slides. Available plugins and skills vary by plan and workspace.
