ChatGPT vs Claude — NOXI comparison cover: 88 to 85 on seven documented criteria, with ChatGPT ahead on images, price and tools and Claude ahead on long documents and connectors

Quick answer: Pick ChatGPT if you want image generation, the cheapest paid plan (Go, $8 a month) or more of the counted tools on a $20 plan (five of six, against four). Pick Claude if you need a published context window of up to 1M tokens, your own connector even on the free plan, or an annual discount (Pro at $200 a year). On seven printed rules, checked on 22 October 2026, ChatGPT leads 88 to 85, a narrow lead that one disputed free-plan cell could reverse.

Most ChatGPT vs Claude (or Claude vs ChatGPT) articles argue about vibes, or compare model versions that have already been replaced. This one reads both companies' own pages on the same day: plan pages, help centres and privacy pages. Every score links to its page and every rule is printed, so you can re-run the comparison next month.

ChatGPT vs Claude side by side (22 October 2026)

ChatGPT and Claude now overlap on most everyday features: both search the web, read uploaded files, create documents, talk by voice and run on web, desktop and phone. The documented differences are images (ChatGPT only), the published context window (Claude only), custom connectors on the free and $20 plans (Claude only) and billing options.

Prices are the US dollar list prices on the official pages, before tax. OpenAI's pricing table at chatgpt.com/pricing redirected to a sign-in page on 22 October 2026, so ChatGPT prices come from OpenAI's help centre and learn.chatgpt.com.

How we compared ChatGPT and Claude

Both assistants were scored on documented capability: seven criteria, each with one written rule applied in the same way to both, using only official OpenAI and Anthropic pages opened on 22 October 2026 without signing in. It is not a new hands-on test, and it does not score answer quality.

Method Scored on documented capability from official pages opened on 22 October 2026: plan and pricing pages, help centres, product documentation and privacy pages. Not a new hands-on test. Weighted score = rating ÷ 5 × weight; the weights total 100. Ties are listed alphabetically. A cell scores low only when an official page was opened and does not document the feature. The same seven rules score nine assistants on the same day, so this page agrees with our other assistant comparisons.

Why leave out writing quality? No vendor page documents it, so a score for it would be opinion dressed up as a number. The rules reward what you can check on a vendor page before you pay.

CodeCriterionWeightThe rule (identical for both)
A1Free plan20Count five capabilities documented for the free plan: web search, file uploads, image generation, file creation (a .docx, .pptx, .xlsx or PDF, or export to Docs or Slides), connections to other apps. 5 = all five; 4 = four; 3 = three; 2 = two; 1 = 0–1.
A2Entry price10The cheapest paid tier per month; annual price ÷ 12 if annual billing is published. 5 = ≤ $10; 4 = $10.01–15; 3 = $15.01–20; 2 = $20.01–30; 1 = over $30.
A3Long documents10The largest context window published for the plan nearest $20 a month, on a consumer page that opens without signing in. 5 = 1M tokens or more; 3 = 128K to under 1M; 1 = under 128K; 2 = not published.
A4Tools on the ~$20 plan20Count six tools: web search, deep research, image generation, voice conversation (spoken back-and-forth, not dictation), file creation, video generation. 5 = 5–6; 4 = 4; 3 = 3; 2 = 2; 1 = 0–1.
A5Add-ons155 = custom MCP connectors on free and paid personal plans; 4 = paid personal plans only, or with age or region limits; 3 = an app or plugin directory for individuals, custom MCP only in business workspaces; 2 = built-in links to a few services; 1 = none.
A6Training control155 = consumer chats are not used for training; 4 = an opt-out setting plus a chat mode excluded from training; 3 = an opt-out setting only; 2 = opt-out by request or form; 1 = no opt-out stated.
A7Where it works10Count six surfaces: web, desktop app, mobile app, browser extension or own browser, office-suite add-in or integration, own coding agent. 5 = 6; 4 = 5; 3 = 4; 2 = 3; 1 = 2 or fewer.

Two clarifications apply to both vendors. A capability counts for a plan when an official page lists it for that plan, or documents it for the product with no plan limit. And a context window must be published for the consumer plan; API model pages do not count, because they describe the developer product, not the subscription.

The scored table: ChatGPT 88, Claude 85

ChatGPT scores 88 and Claude 85 out of 100 on the seven rules. ChatGPT gains 12 points over Claude on the free plan, the entry price and the tools on a $20 plan; Claude wins 9 back on the published context window (+6) and add-ons (+3). Training control and surfaces are level.

Two stacked bars, one per assistant, out of 100. ChatGPT 88: free plan 20, entry price 10, long documents 4, tools 20, add-ons 12, training control 12, surfaces 10. Claude 85: 16, 6, 10, 16, 15, 12, 10.
A 3-point gap, different strengths: ChatGPT's points come from the free plan, price and tools, Claude's from long documents and add-ons.

Why the lead is narrow

ChatGPT's 12 points come from three criteria worth 4 each: a fuller free plan (A1), a cheaper first paid tier (A2) and one more tool on the $20 plan, image generation (A4). Claude wins 9 back: 6 for a published context window of up to 1M tokens (A3) and 3 for add-ons (A5), because custom connectors work on every Claude plan, Free included, while ChatGPT documents custom MCP with read/fetch permissions on Pro (from $100 a month) and full MCP on business plans. They are level on training control (A6) and surfaces (A7). A 3-point lead that rests partly on a disputed free-plan cell is close, not decisive.

What would change the result

  • ChatGPT A3: the context window for each plan sits behind a sign-in. If OpenAI publishes 1M tokens or more on an open page, ChatGPT gets 94. If it publishes 128K to under 1M, ChatGPT gets 90.
  • ChatGPT A1: file creation on Free rests on "ChatGPT Work … included in your ChatGPT Free … plan". OpenAI's plan card says Work runs "in the desktop app, subject to rollout". Without that capability ChatGPT scores 84, and Claude leads the head-to-head 85–84.

One conflict is worth knowing about. OpenAI's Free Tier FAQ lists "Create images in ChatGPT" for Free users, while an FAQ on learn.chatgpt.com, written for Work and Codex, says image generation "isn't available on the Free plan". The score follows the help-centre page for the consumer app; if image creation is missing on your free account, that page is the one to check. Scored with the same seven rules on the same day, Google Gemini totals 94, so a three-way "ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini" question has a different answer: see ChatGPT vs Gemini for that head-to-head and the best AI chatbot ranking for all nine assistants.

ChatGPT vs Claude pricing: plans side by side

ChatGPT has four personal tiers (Free, Go at $8, Plus at $20, Pro from $100) and bills them monthly only. Claude has three (Free, Pro at $20 monthly or $200 a year, Max from $100). Team seats cost the same on both: $20 a month on annual billing, $25 on monthly billing.

TierChatGPTClaude12 months
Free$0$0$0 on both
Entry paidGo $8 a monthNo tier below ProGo: 12 × $8 = $96
~$20 personalPlus $20 a monthPro $20 a month, or $200 a yearPlus: 12 × $20 = $240; Pro: $240 monthly or $200 annual
Heavy usePro from $100 a monthMax from $100 a monthFrom 12 × $100 = $1,200 on both
Team seatBusiness $20 annual, $25 monthlyTeam Standard $20 annual, $25 monthlyPer seat: $240 annual or $300 monthly

What each extra dollar buys differs. Go adds higher limits for image generation, file uploads and data analysis, longer memory and projects over Free [6]. Plus adds priority access, higher model limits, voice conversations and Deep Research where available [3]. Claude Pro adds more usage per session, Research, Claude Code, Projects, more models and Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365 [4]. Claude Max and ChatGPT Pro are for people who hit the Pro and Plus limits every week.

ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro

ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro cost the same $20 a month on monthly billing. Claude Pro drops to $17 a month when you pay $200 for a year up front; OpenAI says it does not support annual billing for Go, Plus or Pro [6]. Plus includes image generation; Pro includes a published context window of up to 1M tokens and Claude Code.

Prices outside the US: OpenAI says all purchases are in US dollars, with local-currency billing in a limited set of countries [6]. For prices in India, the UK, Canada or Australia, open each vendor's pricing page from that country before you subscribe; we quote only the US prices we opened.

Worked example: what a year of ChatGPT or Claude costs

For one person on the $20 tier, a year of Claude Pro paid annually costs $40 less than a year of ChatGPT Plus. For a team of five, the two cost exactly the same, so the choice falls to features, not price.

Example Lina Haddad is a fictional freelance editor who pays for one assistant herself. Her fictional agency, Harbor & Pine Editorial, has 5 editors choosing team seats for 2027. All prices are the list prices on 22 October 2026.
OptionCalculation12 months
Lina: ChatGPT Plus12 × $20 (no annual option)$240
Lina: Claude Pro, monthly12 × $20$240
Lina: Claude Pro, annual$200 billed up front$200
Lina: ChatGPT Go12 × $8$96
Agency: annual seats5 × $20 × 12, on either$1,200
Agency: monthly seats5 × $25 × 12, on either$1,500
Agency: mixedClaude Team annual $1,200 + one ChatGPT Plus $240$1,440

Lina. Claude Pro on annual billing saves $240 − $200 = $40 a year against ChatGPT Plus, which is $40 ÷ $240 = 16.7% less. If she needs cover images in the chat, the saving does not apply: only ChatGPT lists image generation. If she mainly needs the cheapest paid plan, Go at $96 a year costs $240 − $96 = $144 less than Plus, or 60% less.

The agency. Five seats cost $1,200 a year on annual billing and $1,500 on monthly billing on either vendor; annual billing saves $300, which is $300 ÷ $1,500 = 20%. Because the prices match, Harbor & Pine decides on features: Claude Team for the editors, who work on long manuscripts and want to connect their own tools, plus one ChatGPT Plus seat for cover images. That costs $1,200 + $240 = $1,440, still $60 below five monthly-billed seats.

Bars for the cost of 12 months at list prices on 22 October 2026: ChatGPT Go $96, Claude Pro on annual billing $200, ChatGPT Plus $240, Claude Pro on monthly billing $240. A second row shows five team seats at $1,200 a year on annual billing on either vendor and $1,500 on monthly billing.
A year on the $20 tier: Claude Pro annual is $40 cheaper than ChatGPT Plus; five team seats cost the same on both.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT? The task chooser

Claude is better than ChatGPT for some documented jobs and worse for others: it publishes a far larger context window and allows your own connector on the free plan, while ChatGPT generates images and has the cheaper paid plan. Where both vendors document the same capability, the honest answer is "either".

Choose by the job: three go to ChatGPT, two to Claude, and the everyday features are a draw.

Which AI is better, Claude or ChatGPT? If you can name the job, the table answers it. If you cannot, start with the free plan of each for a week on your own work, then pay for the one whose limits you hit first.

ChatGPT vs Claude for writing

For writing, the documented difference is capacity, not style: Claude publishes a context window of up to 1M tokens on every plan, so very long manuscripts, theses and source packs fit in one conversation, while ChatGPT publishes no figure on pages that open without a sign-in. Both create Word documents and keep projects.

Writing quality is the question people ask most and the one no official page answers. Neither OpenAI nor Anthropic publishes a measure of how well its assistant writes a book chapter, an essay or a client email, and we do not score claims from blogs or benchmark sites. What you can compare is the workflow around the writing:

  • Long inputs. Claude: "Up to 1M", varying by model; the help centre lists other models at 500K or 200K [13]. ChatGPT Go mentions "a larger context window" than Free, with no number [6].
  • Files out. ChatGPT Work can "create or edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, and analyses" [8]. Claude lists "Create and edit files with code execution" on Free, Pro and Max [4].
  • Memory and projects. Claude Free lists "Memory across conversations" and up to 5 projects; Pro lists Projects [4]. ChatGPT Go adds projects, tasks and longer memory [6].
  • Drafts you keep. Claude Free lists "Create Artifacts" and "Claude Design, Slides, Docs" [4]; ChatGPT Work can match "an existing file, master deck, or reusable template" [8].

For essays, emails or a book draft, give both the same brief and source file and judge the two drafts yourself.

ChatGPT vs Claude for coding

For coding, both vendors ship their own coding agent: OpenAI's Codex is included in every ChatGPT plan from Free, and Anthropic's Claude Code is included from the Pro plan. Neither vendor's plan page publishes a code-quality measure, so the documented difference is access, not skill.

OpenAI states that "ChatGPT Work and Codex are included in your ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, or Enterprise plan", with Codex available as a CLI, an IDE extension and a cloud agent [5]. Anthropic's pricing table shows Claude Code on Pro and Max, not on Free [4]. Both apply usage limits to coding sessions: OpenAI's page describes the free tier as for "quick coding tasks" and Plus as "a few focused coding sessions each week" [5]; Claude's limits reset on a five-hour session window, with weekly limits on paid plans [4]. If you code daily, compare the weekly limits on each vendor's own page in the month you subscribe, because they change more often than prices.

ChatGPT vs Claude for research and students

For research, both search the web on their free plans, and both offer a multi-step research tool on the $20 plan: Deep Research on ChatGPT Plus "where available", Research on Claude Pro. Claude's long context helps with large reading lists; ChatGPT's free plan adds image creation for posters and figures.

For students, the free plans matter most. ChatGPT Free includes web search, file uploads, data analysis, image creation and a 500 MB Library [7]. Claude Free includes web search, file creation, code execution, memory and one custom connector [4][12]. Claude's pricing table shows the "Up to 1M" context window on Free as well, varying by model [4]. We did not score student discounts; check your university's licence and each vendor's education page before paying for a personal plan.

Whichever you use for coursework, check every citation and number against the original source, and follow your institution's rules on AI use.

ChatGPT vs Claude usage limits and context window

Claude publishes how its limits work: usage resets on a rolling five-hour session window, paid plans add weekly limits, Pro gives at least five times Free's usage per session, and Max gives five or twenty times Pro's. OpenAI says Plus "may include usage limits such as message caps" that vary with demand, and lists separate limits for tools.

LimitChatGPTClaude
Everyday chat, FreeNo fixed cap on everyday text chats, "subject to abuse-prevention safeguards" [7]Rolling five-hour session window [4]
Tools, FreeSeparate limits for data analysis, uploads and image creation [7]No separate tool limits listed on the pricing page [4]
$20 planPlus: higher model limits; "may include usage limits such as message caps, especially during high demand" [3]Pro: at least 5x Free's usage per five-hour session, plus weekly limits [4]
Top tierPro: "no five-hour limit" stated for Codex; weekly limits may apply [5]Max: 5x or 20x Pro's usage per session [4]
Context windowNot published on an open page"Up to 1M", varies by model; 500K or 200K for other models [4][13]
Definition Context window: the amount of text, measured in tokens, that an assistant can take into account at once, including your files, the conversation so far and its own reply. A larger window lets you work with a whole book or a large set of documents in one chat; past the limit, earlier material drops out or must be summarised.
Definition Usage limit: the cap on how much you can use an assistant in a period. Claude measures it per five-hour session, with weekly caps on paid plans; OpenAI describes per-tool limits and message caps that can tighten during high demand. Hitting a limit pauses use until it resets.

The ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro usage-limit question has no like-for-like answer, because the two vendors describe limits in different units. In practice: if you work in long bursts, Claude's five-hour window is the number to watch; if you use many tools, ChatGPT's per-tool limits are.

Images, voice and files

ChatGPT creates images on its free and paid plans; Claude's plan page lists no image generation. Both offer voice conversations and both create files such as documents and spreadsheets, so images are the only one of the three where the two clearly differ.

Can Claude generate images?

No plan on Claude's pricing page lists image generation, and image generation is the capability Claude misses in both A1 and A4 [4]. Claude does list "Create Artifacts" and file creation with code execution, and it can read images you upload. If you need pictures made in the chat, ChatGPT documents it: Free lists "Create images in ChatGPT" and Plus lists image generation [3][7].

Does Claude have voice mode?

Yes. Claude's pricing table shows voice mode on Free, Pro and Max [4]. ChatGPT Plus lists "Voice conversations" [3], and OpenAI's pricing page lists ChatGPT Voice and voice dictation [5].

Files in and out

Claude accepts uploads of up to 500 MB per file and up to 20 files per chat, with no plan limit stated [14]. ChatGPT Free lists "Upload images or files in your prompts", and Go raises the upload limits [6][7]. For files out, see the writing section: both now create documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Claude connectors vs ChatGPT plugins

Claude lets every personal plan add its own custom connector, a remote MCP server, with one allowed on Free. ChatGPT gives every plan its plugin directory; OpenAI's help centre says Pro users can connect custom MCP servers with read/fetch permissions and keeps full MCP for Business and Enterprise/Edu. That difference is worth 3 points to Claude on rule A5.

Definition Custom connector (MCP): a link from an assistant to an outside service through the Model Context Protocol, the open standard for exposing a service's tools to an AI assistant. You give the assistant the server's address, sign in to the service, and the assistant can then use that service's tools in the chat.

On Claude, Anthropic's help article says custom connectors work on Claude, Cowork and Claude Desktop "for users on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans", and that Free users are limited to one [12]. On Pro and Max you add one under Customize > Connectors, then + Add and Add custom connector, and paste the server's URL; on Team and Enterprise an owner adds it first [12]. On ChatGPT, "The plugin directory is available across ChatGPT plans" [9]; full MCP, added from Plugins without turning on developer mode, is for Business and Enterprise/Edu workspaces, while "Pro users can connect custom MCP servers with read/fetch permissions" [10]. If the tool you want already has a plugin or a listed connector, both work; if you want to connect your own server on a free or $20 plan, Claude documents it. Our guide to Claude connectors, ChatGPT plugins and MCP walks through adding one.

ChatGPT vs Claude privacy: training settings side by side

ChatGPT and Claude both let consumer users stop their chats from being used for training and both offer a chat mode that is never used for training: ChatGPT's Temporary chat (kept up to 30 days) and Claude's Incognito chat (30 days by default). Both score 4 of 5 on rule A6.

Definition Model training opt-out: a setting that stops your future conversations being used to improve the vendor's AI models. It does not delete past chats or stop the vendor keeping data for safety and legal reasons; a temporary or incognito chat goes further by leaving no history and not being used for training.

Business and team plans are not scored; rule A6 reads only the consumer settings. Neither consumer setting makes an assistant a safe place for confidential client data. For work material, check your employer's policy; our guide does ChatGPT train on your data? walks through each setting step by step.

ChatGPT vs Claude for personal and everyday use

For everyday personal use, ChatGPT's free plan covers more documented ground: it adds image creation, and its first paid tier costs $8. Claude's free plan suits people who work with long documents or want to connect one tool of their own. Both run on web, desktop and phone.

Both assistants reach the same six surfaces: web, a desktop app, mobile apps, browser tools (ChatGPT's Chrome browser control and Claude in Chrome), office software (ChatGPT for Excel and Claude for Microsoft 365) and a coding agent (Codex and Claude Code) [4][5]. On Claude, the browser and Microsoft 365 surfaces start on Pro [4].

What the ChatGPT vs Claude Reddit threads argue about

The searches behind "ChatGPT vs Claude Reddit" come down to three questions: which subscription to pay for, how fast the limits run out, and which writes better. The first two have documented answers in the price and limits sections above. The third has no official answer, which is why those threads never settle it, and why we left it out of the score.

ChatGPT vs Claude in 2026

On 22 October 2026 the line-ups read: ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus and Pro, with a Plugins directory; Claude Free, Pro and Max, with a context window of up to 1M on every plan [4][5][9]. We re-check this page monthly against the same seven rules.

If your goal is a presentation

If the job is a slide deck rather than a chat, both assistants now create presentation files: ChatGPT Work creates and edits presentations, and Claude lists Claude Slides on its free plan. A dedicated presentation maker is a third route, and NOXI is our pick for turning a conversation into a designed, editable deck.

We compare the assistants as presentation tools on separate pages, so this one stays about the assistants: ChatGPT for presentations, Claude for presentations and Claude Slides vs Gamma; for charts from your own data, see the AI chart makers compared.

NOXI builds a full, designed deck from a topic, a brief or an outline, with fresh web research when you ask for it, and lets you edit one slide or the whole deck by chat. You download it as an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, Arabic included, or as a PDF, with no watermark. NOXI is free: each account gets a monthly allowance of 1,000 credits, and a full deck uses about 25. You can also connect NOXI to your assistant with the address on noxi.ai/connect, so the deck is made from the chat you are already in; ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code and Codex are listed there too, and the Claude connector path is below.

Three prompts to use once NOXI is connected

Prompt 1 · Deck from this chat

"Using our conversation above, create a 10-slide NOXI presentation for [audience]. Slide 1 states the one decision we need. Every title is a full-sentence finding, every number keeps its unit and source, and the last slide lists next steps with owners and dates."

Prompt 2 · Researched briefing

"Research [topic] on the web and turn it into an 8-slide NOXI deck for [audience]: the situation, three findings with one figure each and its source, the options, and a recommendation. Keep body text under 30 words per slide."

Prompt 3 · Edit and export

"In my latest NOXI deck, turn slide [number] into a comparison table of [option A] and [option B], shorten every title to one line, then export the deck as PowerPoint."

Build it: make the deck in NOXI from inside Claude

To make a deck from a Claude chat, add NOXI as a custom connector in Claude with the server address from noxi.ai/connect, sign in to NOXI once, then ask Claude for the deck. The connector works on Claude's free plan as its one custom connector. One flow, six steps:

Step 1 — Copy the server address from noxi.ai/connect

Open noxi.ai/connect and copy the server address, https://mcp.noxi.ai/mcp. Every assistant listed on the page connects to the same address, and you sign in to NOXI in your browser, so there is no API key to copy.

Step 2 — Open the custom connector form in Claude

In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector: the path Anthropic's help centre gives for Pro and Max. On Free you can add one custom connector. In a Team or Enterprise organization, an owner may need to add the connector first.

Step 3 — Enter the name and the server URL

Enter NOXI as the name, enter https://mcp.noxi.ai/mcp as the remote MCP server URL and click Continue. Review the detected authentication settings and click Continue; noxi.ai/connect says no client ID is needed, so keep the recommended OAuth client option.

Step 4 — Sign in to NOXI and approve access

Under Authentication, choose Sign in now, click Add, and sign in to your NOXI account in the window that opens. The consent screen lists what the assistant may do, such as reading your presentations and creating, editing and exporting them; approve access.

Step 5 — Ask for the deck in the chat

Name NOXI in your request, for example "Create a 10-slide NOXI presentation about our Q3 product launch", or paste Prompt 1 after the analysis you have already done in the chat. When NOXI creates or changes a deck, the PDF and PowerPoint files arrive in the chat.

Step 6 — Open the deck in NOXI to edit, present or export

Open the deck in NOXI to edit any slide or the whole deck by chat, present it full-screen, share a view-only link, or download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) or a PDF. You can disconnect the connector at any time in Claude's connector settings.

The connect page adds two practical details: connectors added on the web or in Claude Desktop also work in the Claude mobile apps, and a connection stays active for up to a year while you use it at least once a month.

ChatGPT vs Claude: FAQ

Is Claude better than ChatGPT?
Not overall, on documented facts: on seven rules checked on 22 October 2026, ChatGPT scores 88 and Claude 85, a narrow lead. Claude is better for very long documents and custom connectors on a free plan. ChatGPT is better for images, the cheapest paid plan and the tools at $20. Neither vendor documents writing quality.
Which is better for writing, ChatGPT or Claude?
Neither vendor publishes a writing-quality measure, so the documented difference is capacity. Claude lists a context window of up to 1M tokens on every plan, which fits very long manuscripts and source packs. ChatGPT publishes no figure on open pages. Both create Word documents. Give both the same brief and compare the drafts yourself.
Which is better for coding, ChatGPT or Claude?
Both include a coding agent: OpenAI's Codex comes with every ChatGPT plan from Free, and Anthropic's Claude Code starts on the Claude Pro plan. Neither plan page publishes a code-quality measure, so compare access and weekly limits. If you code daily, check both vendors' current limits in the month you subscribe.
How much do ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro cost?
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month, billed monthly only; OpenAI does not offer annual billing for Go, Plus or Pro. Claude Pro costs $20 a month billed monthly, or $200 a year up front, which is $17 a month. Over 12 months that is $240 for Plus and $200 for Claude Pro on annual billing.
Is Claude free?
Yes, Claude has a free plan at $0. On 22 October 2026 Anthropic's pricing page listed web search, file creation, code execution, memory, connecting your apps and tools, Artifacts, voice mode, and Claude Design, Slides and Docs for Free users. Usage resets on a five-hour session window, and the free plan allows one custom connector.
Can Claude generate images?
No plan on Anthropic's pricing page lists image generation, as checked on 22 October 2026. Claude can read images you upload, create files and build Artifacts. If you need images made in the chat, ChatGPT documents image creation on its Free plan and image generation on Plus, according to OpenAI's help centre.
Does Claude have voice mode?
Yes. Anthropic's pricing table shows voice mode on the Free, Pro and Max plans, checked on 22 October 2026. ChatGPT Plus also lists voice conversations, so both assistants offer a spoken back-and-forth. Articles that say Claude has no voice output are out of date on this point, according to Anthropic's own page.
Which has the bigger context window, ChatGPT or Claude?
Claude publishes the bigger figure: "Up to 1M" tokens on every plan, varying by model; its help centre lists other models at 500K or 200K. OpenAI publishes no per-plan context window on pages that open without a sign-in, so ChatGPT's figure could not be compared on 22 October 2026. That gap is worth 6 points to Claude.
Does ChatGPT or Claude train on my chats?
Both let you opt out of having your consumer chats used for training. ChatGPT's setting is "Improve the model for everyone" under Data controls; Claude's is "Model Improvement" under Privacy. Both also offer a chat mode never used for training: ChatGPT's Temporary chat, kept for up to 30 days, and Claude's Incognito chat, kept for 30 days by default.
Can I use ChatGPT and Claude to make a PowerPoint?
Yes. ChatGPT Work can create and edit presentations, and Claude lists Claude Slides on its free plan and creates files on every plan. For a designed deck you can edit by chat and download as an editable PowerPoint, you can also connect a presentation maker such as NOXI to Claude with a custom connector.

Sources & methodology

How this comparison was made: every price, plan feature, limit and setting comes from OpenAI's and Anthropic's own pages, opened on 22 October 2026 without signing in; OpenAI's help pages and openai.com were read in a browser. OpenAI's pricing table at chatgpt.com/pricing redirected to a sign-in page and could not be used. Scores are documented capability on seven printed rules, not a hands-on test. Lina Haddad and Harbor & Pine Editorial are fictional; every calculation was checked twice. All sources were checked on 22 October 2026.
