Disclosure: NOXI publishes this comparison and is one of the ten tools in it. Every capability below was read on the vendor's own help, product, pricing or changelog page on 19 October 2026, and the criteria, weights and scoring rules are printed so you can check each cell. NOXI is scored by the same rules and ranks second, behind Canva; two criteria go to other tools, and under a second, spreadsheet-first weighting NOXI ties for sixth.
Quick answer: The best AI chart maker depends on where the chart has to live. For a chart that stays in your workbook, use Copilot in Excel or Gemini in Google Sheets; for statistics with code you can inspect, ChatGPT or Julius; for design-first graphics, Canva or Napkin; for a chart on a finished, sourced slide, free, NOXI.
Every AI tool can draw a chart now. The difference is what you can still do with it afterwards: change a value, keep it linked to the spreadsheet, drop it onto a slide, or show where the numbers came from. Most pages that rank for "AI chart maker" are vendors ranking their own tool first. This page scores ten tools on eight printed rules and gives you a six-check accuracy test you can run on any AI chart.
In short
- The ruleDecide where the chart must live, a spreadsheet, a report or a slide, before you pick the tool. AI chart makers differ most on what you can still edit afterwards.
- ScoresEight weighted criteria, 100 points: Canva 86, NOXI 84, Powerdrill Bloom 78, Julius 76, Copilot in Excel 74, Gemini in Sheets 72, ChatGPT 66, Napkin AI 60, Jotform 50, Piktochart 50.
- Where rivals leadCanva tops the main weighting. Copilot in Excel and Canva keep the chart inside a spreadsheet that updates with the data; Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT, Julius and Powerdrill document analysis beyond the chart.
- 2026 changesChatGPT Slides (16 October) lets Pro, Business and Enterprise users edit charts on slides; Copilot in Excel moved charts to Agent Mode in February; Gemini in Sheets now inserts editable charts, not images.
- AccuracySix checks: totals, growth base, shares, axis, units and source. In our fictional example a wrong base turned 32.0% growth into 24.2%.
- CheckedOfficial pages opened 19 October 2026. Documented capability, not a new hands-on test.
The verdict: which AI chart maker to use, by job
The right AI chart maker is the one whose output already sits where your chart has to end up. The table names the documented route for each job and the condition that comes with it.
| Your job | Documented route | The condition (from the vendor's page) |
|---|---|---|
| Chart stays in Excel, linked to the data | Copilot in Excel | Creates and edits charts and PivotTables "with editable links to source data". Needs an eligible Microsoft 365 or Copilot licence. |
| Chart stays in Google Sheets | Gemini in Google Sheets | Inserts the chart into a new tab with its underlying data, fully editable, but not linked to the original range. Needs an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan. |
| Statistics and code you can inspect | ChatGPT data analysis, Julius | Both run Python on your uploaded file, and you can review the code. |
| A designed graphic from a CSV | Canva | CSV upload or connected sources; Excel files are not accepted. Edit the data and styling in the chart panel. |
| A visual from pasted text or numbers | Napkin AI, Piktochart | Paste what you have; no spreadsheet needed. Free plans carry branding (Napkin) or a two-download cap (Piktochart). |
| A chart on a finished slide, with a source line, free | NOXI | Upload Excel or CSV, or start from a prompt NOXI researches first; download editable PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF. |
| Public data with traceable numbers | Powerdrill Bloom | Built-in open data sources and an Insight Trail that links each insight to its source (vendor claim). |
Only Copilot and Gemini write the chart into your workbook, so it travels with the file; every other route produces it on a canvas, in a chat or on a slide. If your data starts in Excel and must end in a deck, our comparison of Excel-to-PowerPoint AI workflows covers that whole route, from the data brief to next month's update.
What changed in 2026: dated chart features from official pages
Three changes in 2026 reshaped AI chart making: Microsoft moved Excel chart creation from App Skills to Agent Mode in February, Gemini in Sheets now inserts editable charts instead of the static images announced in 2025, and OpenAI launched ChatGPT Slides on 16 October. Each row is stated on the vendor's own page.
| When | Tool | What the official page says | Why it matters for charts |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 Feb 2026 | Copilot in Excel | App Skills entry points are going away; editing tasks such as generating charts and PivotTables move to Agent Mode, with the old entry point visible until the end of February [4]. | Charts are made in Copilot's edit mode, directly in the workbook [1]. |
| Jan 2026 | Powerdrill Bloom | Insight Trail tracks each AI insight back to its source, whether a spreadsheet, a document or the web, with citation trails [26]. | A vendor route to traceable numbers behind a chart. |
| 1 Oct 2026 | Julius | Eligible new accounts receive 75 welcome credits plus their first 25 daily credits, 100 in all [23]. | More free room to test charts from your own file. |
| 16 Oct 2026 | ChatGPT | ChatGPT Slides: edit text, images, shapes and charts directly; export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides; rolling out to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space access [9]. | On those plans, ChatGPT charts can land on a slide instead of a chat image. |
| Page undated | Gemini in Google Sheets | An inserted chart goes into a new tab with its data, "linked to the new tab's data and fully editable" [5]. The January 2025 announcement said charts were static images that could not be modified [6]. | Gemini charts are now Sheets charts you can edit. |
One caution on the Gemini change: the chart links to the copy of the data in the new tab, not to the range you started from, so it does not follow later changes to the source.
How we scored: documented capability, printed rules, one day
Each tool was scored from its own help, product, pricing or changelog pages opened on 19 October 2026, most of them in a browser. It is a documented-capability comparison, not a new hands-on test of how good the charts look: a point is awarded only for what the vendor states, and a silent page scores as silent.
The ten tools and why these ten
The list covers the tools people search for next to "AI chart maker": two spreadsheet assistants (Copilot in Excel, Gemini in Sheets), two chat analysts (ChatGPT, Julius), a data workspace (Powerdrill Bloom), four design tools (Canva, Napkin AI, Piktochart, Jotform) and NOXI, which builds charts into decks. Powerdrill, Jotform and Piktochart publish their own "best AI chart maker" lists with their own tool first; they were scored only from their product and pricing pages, with unverifiable statements marked "vendor claim".
Eight criteria, 100 points, and the rule for each
Each tool scores 1 to 5 per criterion. The total is the sum of weight × score ÷ 5, so a perfect sheet is 100. The same rule was applied to every tool, and the rule is printed here.
| Criterion | Weight | The scoring rule |
|---|---|---|
| C1 Works from your data file | 15 | 5 = works on both Excel and CSV files, uploaded or opened in the app. 3 = one of the two, or pasted data only. 1 = text prompts only. |
| C2 Editable after generation | 15 | 5 = the chart's values stay editable in the tool or your file without regenerating. 3 = style edits only, or changes by re-prompting. 1 = a static image only. |
| C3 Chart types documented | 10 | 5 = 12 or more chart types named or stated for the AI feature. 3 = 6 to 11 named, or the AI draws through code or the host app's own chart engine with no stated list. 1 = fewer than 6 named, or not stated. |
| C4 Lands on a slide | 15 | 5 = the chart is placed on a slide in a deck you can download as .pptx, on any plan. 3 = you download, copy or share the chart on its own and place it yourself. 1 = no way out documented. |
| C5 Free with download | 15 | 5 = a free plan with a refreshing allowance includes making AI charts and getting them out, with no watermark or download cap listed. 3 = free use with a watermark or branding, a download cap, a one-time allowance, or free limits the pricing page leaves unclear. 1 = paid plan only. |
| C6 Sourced figures when you have no data | 10 | 5 = the tool researches figures and puts a source on the chart or slide. 3 = web search or open data with citations in the answer, or named data connectors, without a source on the chart. 1 = not documented. |
| C7 Chart lives in a spreadsheet | 10 | 5 = the chart sits in a spreadsheet (Excel, Google Sheets or the tool's own sheet) and updates with the data. 4 = inserted into a spreadsheet as an editable chart linked to a copy of the data. 3 = a static copy in a spreadsheet. 1 = not documented. |
| C8 Analysis beyond the chart | 10 | 5 = documented analysis alongside the chart: statistics, PivotTables or code you can inspect. 3 = summary insights only. 1 = not documented. |
Why these weights. Searchers ask three things most: can it read my Excel file, can I change the chart afterwards, and is it free. So C1, C2 and C5 carry 15 each, and so does C4, because most charts end up in a presentation. The other four carry 10 each. A second lens below shows how the order moves for an analyst whose chart must stay in the workbook.
One free rule for every free plan. The C5 rule is applied the same way to every tool with a refreshing free allowance. NOXI (monthly credits), Canva (AI uses reset monthly) and Powerdrill Bloom (daily credits) list no watermark or download cap and score 5; Julius (daily credits) scores 3 because its pricing page leaves unclear what Free includes for charts, Napkin (weekly credits) 3 for its branding, and Piktochart (monthly AI credits) 3 for its two-download cap.
How to re-run it. Open each vendor's page in Sources, apply the eight rules, multiply and add; the changelog records each monthly edition.
The scorecard: Canva 86, NOXI 84, Powerdrill Bloom 78
On the eight published criteria Canva scores 86, NOXI 84, Powerdrill Bloom 78 and Julius 76. Canva earns its points on editing, design and Canva Sheets, NOXI on slides, sources and free access, the chat analysts on analysis, and Copilot and Gemini on the spreadsheet criteria; no tool scores 5 on every column.

| Tool (feature scored) | C1 Data file (15) | C2 Editable (15) | C3 Types (10) | C4 Slide (15) | C5 Free (15) | C6 Sourced (10) | C7 Sheet (10) | C8 Analysis (10) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canva (AI charts, AI presentations from data) | 3 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 86 |

| Napkin AI (data charts, Napkin Slides) | 3 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 60 |
| Jotform (AI Chart Generator) | 5 | 3 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 50 |
| Piktochart (AI Chart Generator) | 3 | 5 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 50 |
Total = Σ (weight × score) ÷ 5. Canva: 9 + 15 + 10 + 15 + 15 + 6 + 10 + 6 = 86. NOXI: 15 + 15 + 10 + 15 + 15 + 10 + 2 + 2 = 84. Powerdrill Bloom: 15 + 9 + 6 + 15 + 15 + 6 + 2 + 10 = 78. Julius: 15 + 9 + 10 + 15 + 9 + 6 + 2 + 10 = 76. Copilot in Excel: 15 + 15 + 6 + 9 + 3 + 6 + 10 + 10 = 74. Gemini in Sheets: 15 + 15 + 6 + 9 + 3 + 6 + 8 + 10 = 72. ChatGPT: 15 + 9 + 6 + 9 + 9 + 6 + 2 + 10 = 66. Napkin AI: 9 + 15 + 6 + 15 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 60. Jotform: 15 + 9 + 2 + 9 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 50. Piktochart: 9 + 15 + 2 + 9 + 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 50. Ties are listed alphabetically.
Re-weighted for an analyst whose chart must stay in the workbook
If the chart must live in a spreadsheet and come with analysis, set C7 to 25, C8 to 20, C1 and C2 to 15 each, C3 to 10, and C4, C5 and C6 to 5 each. Under that lens Copilot in Excel scores 88, Canva 84, Gemini in Sheets 83, Julius 70, Powerdrill Bloom 68, ChatGPT and NOXI 64 each, Napkin AI 48, and Jotform and Piktochart 42. For teams whose charts must move with the data, the spreadsheet assistants belong at the top.
The 10 AI chart makers, ranked, with how each one earned its score
Each card says how to make a chart with the tool, why it scored as it did, and when it is the right choice. Facts come from the pages in Sources, opened on 19 October 2026.
1. Canva (AI charts) 86
How it works. In a design, open Elements, describe the chart and choose Generate a chart; to use your data, upload a CSV or import from HubSpot, Google Analytics, World Bank, Statista or Canva Sheets. Excel files are not supported. Select the chart and choose Edit to change values [11]. AI presentations from data turns a CSV into a deck with charts and headlines, using 15 listed chart types [12], and Magic Charts in Canva Sheets stay in sync with the data [13].
Score. Data file 3: CSV only. Editable 5. Chart types 5. On a slide 5: presentations download as PPTX [14]. Free 5: up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses, reset monthly, with Magic Charts on the Free plan and no watermark listed [15]. Sourced 3: data connectors, but prompt-only charts use sample data [11]. In a sheet 5: Magic Charts. Analysis 3: headlines that explain key points.
Best when: you have a CSV, design matters as much as the numbers, and the chart will live in a Canva design or deck.
2. NOXI 84
How it works. Choose Create from file and upload an Excel (XLS, XLSX) or CSV/TSV file, up to 200 MB, and NOXI turns it into a structured deck with chart slides. Or choose Create from scratch and describe the topic: prompt-started decks research the web first, and slides with figures carry a source line linking to where each number came from [30]. Twelve chart types, built from your data or from researched figures; you can edit the numbers inside NOXI.
Score. Data file 5. Editable 5: chart numbers stay editable in NOXI. Chart types 5: twelve. On a slide 5: a deck you download as editable PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF. Free 5: 1,000 credits a month, a deck uses about 25, no card and no watermark. Sourced 5: the source line on figure slides of prompt-started decks. In a sheet 1 and Analysis 1: NOXI is built for the slide, so the workbook and the statistics stay with your spreadsheet tool.
Our pick for: a chart that has to land on a finished slide, with a source line, from your spreadsheet or from a prompt, free.
3. Powerdrill Bloom 78
How it works. Upload Excel, CSV, PDF or documents, or search built-in open data, and ask for insights, charts and summaries [25]. The features page names bar, line, pie, doughnut, heatmap, box plot and scatter charts and an Excel-to-PPT route [24]. Insight Trail links each insight to its source with citation trails (vendor claim) [26].
Score. Data file 5. Editable 3: "customizable" charts, value editing not described. Chart types 3: seven named. On a slide 5. Free 5: 1,000 daily refreshed credits with uploads, charts and basic slides, no watermark listed [25]. Sourced 3: citations, not a source on the chart. In a sheet 1. Analysis 5.
Best when: you are exploring a dataset or public data and want the analysis, the charts and a draft deck in one workspace.
4. Julius 76
How it works. Upload CSV, Excel, JSON or PDF files and ask in plain language; right-click a chart to save it [19]. Julius draws with Python libraries and lists 18 visualisation types, from line charts to Sankey diagrams and treemaps [20]. Its AI Presentation Maker builds the charts into a deck that exports to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides; you change a chart by asking, for example "make slide 4 a bar chart instead of a table" [21].
Score. Data file 5. Editable 3: changes by request. Chart types 5. On a slide 5. Free 3: free daily credits and a Limited presentation maker on Free, but the Plus card ($20 a month) lists "Analyze files and create charts and presentations", so what Free includes for charts is unclear [22]. Sourced 3: answers with citations. In a sheet 1. Analysis 5.
Best when: you want an analyst in a chat that writes the code, draws an unusual chart type and then builds the deck.
5. Copilot in Excel 74
How it works. Select the Copilot icon and describe the chart [2]. In edit mode, the default, Copilot works directly in the workbook with Excel's own tools, creating charts and PivotTables "with editable links to source data", and can search the web with citations [1].
Score. Data file 5: Excel workbooks, saved in a modern format such as .xlsx [3]. Editable 5. Chart types 3: Excel's chart engine, no list stated. On a slide 3: copy it into your deck. Free 1: Microsoft 365 Personal or Family with an AI credits plan, Premium, a commercial Copilot subscription or an eligible business plan [3]. Sourced 3. In a sheet 5. Analysis 5.
Best when: the chart has to stay in the workbook, update with the data and be checked by the next analyst who opens the file.
6. Gemini in Google Sheets 72
How it works. Click Ask Gemini, describe the chart and click Insert: it goes into a new tab with its data, fully editable, but it does not follow later changes to the original range. Analysis steps and Show code reveal the method; Retry with Google Search pulls in the web. Excel files are first saved as Google Sheets [5].
Score. Data file 5. Editable 5. Chart types 3: the Sheets chart engine. On a slide 3: copy the chart. Free 1: an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan [5]. Sourced 3. In a sheet 4: linked to a copy of the data. Analysis 5.
Best when: your team runs on Google Workspace and the chart belongs next to the data. Our guide to AI in Google Slides covers what happens when it moves into a deck.
7. ChatGPT (data analysis, Slides) 66
How it works. Upload a .xls, .xlsx or .csv file and describe the chart. ChatGPT writes and runs Python, and OpenAI asks you to review the code, outputs and assumptions. Charts arrive as static images; bar, line, pie and scatter charts can be switched to interactive [7]. Since 16 October 2026, ChatGPT Slides lets eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space access edit charts on a slide and, on the web, export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides [8][9].
Score. Data file 5. Editable 3: Slides edits charts directly, but OpenAI does not say the values stay editable, and data changes are made by asking. Chart types 3: four interactive types, others through code. On a slide 3: Slides needs a Pro, Business or Enterprise plan, so on Free and Plus you download the chart image. Free 3: data analysis is "Limited" on Free [10]. Sourced 3: search is a chat feature, and the analysis environment cannot make web requests [7]. In a sheet 1. Analysis 5.
Best when: you need statistics or a custom calculation first and want to read the code behind the chart.
8. Napkin AI 60
How it works. Paste text or data, "no spreadsheet required"; Napkin offers several chart options, and you click any bar, slice or line to edit labels, values or colours, then export as PPT, PDF, PNG or SVG [16]. Napkin Slides turns charts into a deck exported as .pptx [18].
Score. Data file 3: pasted data; file import covers PPT, DOC, PDF, HTML and Markdown [17]. Editable 5. Chart types 3: eleven named, plus tables. On a slide 5. Free 3: 500 AI credits a week, Napkin branding on visuals and a limited PPT export allowance [17][18]. Sourced 1, In a sheet 1, Analysis 1.
Best when: you have a paragraph or a few numbers and want a clean visual in seconds.
9. Jotform AI Chart Generator 50 · tied ninth
How it works. After a free sign-up, upload a CSV, XLS or XLSX file of up to 150 KB, choose a bar, pie, donut or column chart or a table, adjust colours, labels, axis titles and legend, and share it by email or social media, or download it [29].
Score. Data file 5. Editable 3: style edits. Chart types 1: four types and a table. On a slide 3: share or download the chart. Free 3: free after sign-up, with the 150 KB cap and no stated allowance. Sourced 1, In a sheet 1, Analysis 1.
Best when: you need one quick chart from a small spreadsheet, especially if your data already lives in Jotform.
10. Piktochart AI Chart Generator 50 · tied ninth
How it works. Start from a data table, pasted numbers or a chart description; Piktochart AI drafts an editable chart, and you refine labels, values, colours and layout in its editor [27].
Score. Data file 3: CSV import and pasted data [28]. Editable 5. Chart types 1: bar, line, pie and comparison charts named. On a slide 3: PowerPoint downloads are on Business, $17 a member a month billed annually. Free 3: 60 AI credits a month and 2 PNG downloads [28]. Sourced 1, In a sheet 1, Analysis 1.
Best when: the chart is one element of an infographic, report or poster you will design in Piktochart.
Picture or editable chart: what each tool gives you back
An AI chart maker returns one of four things: a picture you can only replace, a chart whose values you edit in the tool, a chart that lives in a spreadsheet and follows its data, or a chart already on a slide. That decides how much the next correction will cost.

| Tool | What you get back | How you fix a wrong number |
|---|---|---|
| Copilot in Excel | A native Excel chart linked to the source cells | Fix the cell; the chart follows |
| Gemini in Sheets | A Sheets chart on a new tab, linked to a copy of the data | Fix the value in the new tab |
| ChatGPT | A static image by default; four interactive types; charts on Slides (paid plans) | Ask again, or edit the chart in Slides |
| Julius | A Python-drawn image; charts in a generated deck | Ask for the change |
| Powerdrill Bloom | Interactive charts in the workspace | Ask for the change |
| Canva | An editable Canva chart; Magic Charts in Canva Sheets | Edit the data in the chart panel |
| Napkin AI | An editable visual | Click the bar or slice and edit |
| Piktochart | An editable chart in the editor | Edit values in the editor |
| Jotform | A styled chart | Fix the file and upload again |
| NOXI | A chart on a slide in a full deck | Edit the numbers inside NOXI, or ask the AI |
The practical rule: if the numbers will change next month, choose a tool where the chart follows the data or the values can be edited in place. For a one-off chart, a picture is fine once it passes the accuracy check below.
Charts from text with no data: who researches figures and who makes them up
Asked for a chart with no numbers, an AI tool does one of three things: researches real figures and cites them, searches in a chat and leaves the citing to you, or draws a plausible chart from sample data. Only the first is safe to present as it stands.
| What the tool does | Documented in | What you must do |
|---|---|---|
| Researches and puts a source on the slide | NOXI: prompt-started decks research the web first, and figure slides carry a source line linking to where each number came from | Open two or three source links and check the figure against the page |
| Searches or cites, but not on the chart | Copilot in Excel (web search with citations), Gemini in Sheets (Retry with Google Search), ChatGPT (search in chat), Julius (answers with citations), Powerdrill (open data, Insight Trail) | Copy the citation onto the chart as a source line yourself |
| Draws from sample data | Canva: prompt-only AI charts use sample data created to match your description and may not be accurate [11] | Replace every value with your own verified figure |
| Charts only what you paste | Napkin, Piktochart, Jotform | Bring the numbers and their source with you |
For ChatGPT users: the Python environment used for data analysis cannot make external web requests, so a chart drawn from code uses only what you uploaded or the conversation contains [7]. Our guide to AI presentations with research and citations covers how to check researched figures before they reach a slide.
The accuracy check: six questions for any AI chart
An AI chart is accurate when six things hold: the parts add up to the total, growth is computed from the right base, shares sum to 100% within rounding, bars start at zero, the units and period are printed on the chart, and a source line says where the numbers came from. The check takes about a minute and works on a chart from any tool.
| Check | What to compute or look at | Pass rule |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Totals add up | Sum of the parts against the stated total | Equal, to the shown decimal place |
| 2. Growth from the right base | (end − start) ÷ start | The base is the earlier value, never the later one |
| 3. Shares sum to 100% | Each part ÷ total | 99.9% to 100.1% is rounding; say so in a footnote |
| 4. Bars start at zero | The value axis of every bar or column chart | Starts at 0; line charts may zoom if labelled |
| 5. Units and period on the chart | Axis title, subtitle or label | Currency, scale and period visible, for example "$M, quarterly, 2026" |
| 6. A source line | Footer of the chart or slide | Names the organisation and the year |
Worked example: Aster Foods' quarterly revenue chart

The checks also surface a finding the draft hid: North is the largest region, but West grew fastest, (3.3 − 2.4) ÷ 2.4 = 37.5%, against North's 33.3% and South's 25.8%. Deciding which comparison is the story is still the presenter's job.
Choosing the chart type before you prompt
The chart type follows from the audience's question: change over time, comparison, parts of a whole, a relationship or a distribution. Name the question in your prompt and most AI chart makers choose well; name only the data and they guess.
| The audience's question | Chart to ask for | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| How did it change over time? | Line chart, or columns for 4 to 8 periods | Pie charts of periods |
| Which item is bigger? | Bar chart sorted by value; horizontal when labels are long | 3D bars, alphabetical order |
| What share does each part take? | Stacked bar, or a pie with five slices or fewer | Pies with many thin slices |
| Do two measures move together? | Scatter plot | Two lines on two different axes |
| How are values spread? | Histogram or box plot | An average shown alone |
| What drove the change in a total? | Waterfall chart | Separate bars for start and end only |
Write the title as the finding, not the topic. Our guide on how to present data covers the full chart chooser, finding titles, axes and annotation.
Privacy: uploading company data to an AI chart maker
Before you upload a spreadsheet, check two things on the vendor's own pages: whether your files train its models, and who can see what the AI adds to a shared file. The answers differ between tools and plans.
- Training. OpenAI's pricing page says content is used to train its models on individual plans, with an opt-out available [10]. Napkin says it will not use your data to train its models if you opt out of data sharing [17]. NOXI states that presentations, prompts and uploaded files are not used to train AI models [30].
- Shared files. Microsoft notes that Copilot's saved changes are visible to anyone with access to the workbook, including co-authors [3]. Google warns that content Gemini adds may be visible to users outside your domain when a sheet is shared externally [5].
- Test with a sample. Upload the same columns with made-up values before the real file.
Our checklist for confidential material in AI presentation tools gives a template for deciding what may be uploaded, by whom and where.
Key terms used in this comparison
Four terms decide how the tables above are read.
Where NOXI fits: our pick for a sourced chart on a finished slide
NOXI is our pick for one job: a chart that has to land on a finished slide, with a source line, from your spreadsheet or from a prompt, free. It scores 84 on the main weighting, second to Canva's 86; Copilot in Excel, Gemini in Sheets and Canva score higher on keeping the chart in a spreadsheet, and Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT, Julius and Powerdrill on analysis beyond the chart.
- Two starting points. Upload an Excel, CSV, PDF, Word or PowerPoint file, or describe the topic and let NOXI research it first, with a source line on figure slides.
- Charts and the file. Twelve chart types with numbers you can edit inside NOXI; download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF, free, with no watermark.
Three prompts for chart slides in NOXI
Three prompts: chart slides from your spreadsheet, a researched briefing with no data of your own, and a fix after the accuracy check. Replace the parts in brackets.
Build a [6]-slide [quarterly revenue review] from the attached [revenue-2026.xlsx]. One chart per slide, each title a full sentence stating the finding with the number, for example "[Revenue grew 32.0% from Q1 to Q4 2026]". Print units and period on every chart ([$M, quarterly, 2026]), start bar axes at zero, and add the footer "[Source: Aster Foods finance, FY2026]".
Create a [7]-slide briefing on [electric vehicle sales in Europe, 2022–2025] for [our leadership team]. Research the figures, use one chart per data slide with the source on the slide, write each title as the finding, and end with [three implications for our fleet plan].
On slide [3], recalculate growth from [Q1 to Q4] using [Q1] as the base, start the value axis at zero, add the units "[$M, quarterly, 2026]" to the chart, and change the title to "[Revenue grew 32.0% from Q1 to Q4 2026]". Keep every other number unchanged.
Build it in NOXI: chart slides from your spreadsheet in six steps
This is one flow, Create from file; a full deck uses about 25 of the 1,000 monthly credits.
Step 1 — Start free
Open noxi.ai and create a free account; no card is needed, and each account gets a monthly allowance of 1,000 credits.
Step 2 — Choose Create from file and upload your data
On the home screen choose Create from file and attach your Excel (XLS, XLSX) or CSV file, up to 200 MB, with clear column headers and one row per record.
Step 3 — Write the brief
Say how many slides you want, the audience, one chart per slide, titles that state the finding, the units and period for each chart, and the source footer, as in prompt 1.
Step 4 — Watch the slides being built
NOXI turns the data into a structured deck with chart slides, and you watch each slide being built, charts included.
Step 5 — Run the six checks and fix the numbers
Run the accuracy check on every chart; edit any number inside NOXI, or ask the AI to change one slide or the whole deck in plain English or Arabic, as in prompt 3.
Step 6 — Download the deck
Download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF, free and with no watermark.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the best AI chart maker?
- It depends on where the chart must live. On our eight published criteria Canva scores 86, NOXI 84 and Powerdrill Bloom 78. Under a spreadsheet-first weighting Copilot in Excel leads with 88. For a chart on a finished, sourced slide, free, NOXI is our pick.
- Is there a free AI chart maker?
- Yes, with different limits. NOXI gives 1,000 credits a month with no watermark, and a deck uses about 25. Powerdrill Bloom refreshes 1,000 credits daily. Canva Free gives up to 20 AI uses a month, Napkin brands free visuals, and Piktochart Free allows 2 PNG downloads. Copilot in Excel and Gemini in Sheets need paid plans.
- Can AI make a chart from Excel data?
- Yes. Copilot in Excel works inside the workbook, ChatGPT accepts .xls, .xlsx and .csv files, and Julius, Powerdrill, Jotform and NOXI accept Excel and CSV uploads. Gemini asks you to save an Excel file as Google Sheets first, and Canva accepts CSV but not Excel. Keep one header row and one record per row for the best result.
- Can ChatGPT make charts?
- Yes. Upload a spreadsheet and ChatGPT runs Python to draw the chart as a static image; bar, line, pie and scatter charts can switch to interactive. Since 16 October 2026, ChatGPT Slides lets eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users edit charts on a slide and export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides on the web.
- Can Copilot create charts in Excel?
- Yes. Describe the chart in the Copilot pane and, in edit mode, Copilot creates it in your workbook with editable links to the source data. Microsoft retired the App Skills entry point in February 2026 and moved chart work to Agent Mode; today's help pages describe it as edit mode. It needs an eligible Microsoft 365 or Copilot licence.
- Can Gemini make charts in Google Sheets?
- Yes. Click Ask Gemini, describe the chart and click Insert. The chart goes into a new tab with its data, fully editable, but it does not follow changes to the original range; the January 2025 launch produced static images. It needs an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan.
- Are AI-generated charts editable?
- Some are. Copilot in Excel, Gemini in Sheets, Canva, Napkin, Piktochart and NOXI document editing a chart's values after generation, and ChatGPT Slides lets Pro, Business and Enterprise users edit charts on a slide. ChatGPT's data-analysis charts are static images by default, and Julius and Powerdrill change charts when you ask again.
- How do I put an AI chart into PowerPoint?
- Three routes: copy the chart from Excel, Sheets or a design tool and paste it; download it as an image and insert it; or use a tool that builds the deck and exports .pptx, such as NOXI, Canva, Julius, Napkin Slides, Powerdrill or ChatGPT Slides on paid plans. Then run the six accuracy checks on the slide itself.
- Can AI make a chart from text?
- Yes, but check where the numbers come from. Napkin, Piktochart and Jotform chart the numbers you paste or upload. Canva's prompt-only charts use sample data created to match your description. NOXI's prompt-started decks research the web first and put a source line on figure slides, and Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT, Julius and Powerdrill cite sources in their answers.
- How do I check an AI chart is accurate?
- Run six checks: the parts add up to the total, growth uses the earlier value as its base, shares sum to 100% within rounding, bars start at zero, units and period are on the chart, and a source line names where the numbers came from. In our fictional example, a wrong base turned 32.0% growth into 24.2%.
