Disclosure: NOXI publishes this ranking and is one of the fifteen tools scored in it. The criteria, weights, scoring anchors and the official page behind every fact are published below, so you can check any cell, change the weights and reach your own order.
Quick answer: The best PowerPoint alternative depends on whether your deck must go back to PowerPoint as an editable file. On nine documented criteria weighted to 100 points, this October 2026 edition ranks NOXI first (92), then Google Slides (86), Canva (85), Claude (84) and Keynote (83). For free offline work, LibreOffice Impress and ONLYOFFICE lead.
This is the first monthly edition of a ranking that keeps the same URL, the same nine criteria and the same scoring anchors from month to month. It covers both kinds of tool people mean when they search for a PowerPoint alternative: classic editors and office suites that open and save .pptx files (Google Slides, Keynote, LibreOffice Impress, ONLYOFFICE, WPS Office, Zoho Show), design and presentation platforms (Canva, Prezi, Pitch), and AI-first makers that draft the deck for you (NOXI, Gamma, Beautiful.ai, Plus AI, Genspark, Claude). The question behind most searches is practical: can I open the file a colleague sent, and can I send a file back that they can edit? That round trip carries the most weight here.

Quick picks: the best PowerPoint alternative for each need
There is no single best alternative; there is a best tool for the constraint you cannot change. Each pick below is the highest scorer on the criteria that matter for that need, with the runner-up beside it. The scores and the reasons are in the tables and tool cards further down.
| Need | Pick | Runner-up | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall | NOXI (92) | Google Slides (86) | Highest total: AI drafts with sources on the slide, any file as input, your own template as the style, and a free editable .pptx export. |
| Free classic editor | Google Slides | Zoho Show | Free with an account, edits .pptx files in their own format, live co-editing, comments and version history on the free plan. |
| Offline and Linux | LibreOffice Impress | ONLYOFFICE | Free desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux that open and save .pptx; no account and no internet needed. |
| Mac and iPad | Keynote | Pitch | Free on Apple devices, opens and exports .pptx, real-time collaboration through iCloud, presenter display and VoiceOver support. |
| Windows office suite | WPS Office | ONLYOFFICE | A free suite on Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile that opens and saves .pptx, with an AI Slides generator. |
| AI draft with sources | NOXI | Genspark | Both document web research with the source visible on the slide: a source line in NOXI, verification marks with reference links in Genspark. |
| Your own template | NOXI | Gamma | NOXI builds the deck in the style of any PowerPoint, PDF or screenshot you upload; Gamma imports a theme from a PowerPoint or Google Slides file. |
| Design beyond slides | Canva | Gamma | Presentations, social posts and documents in one place, 1.6 million free templates and a brand kit on the free plan. |
| Team co-editing | Google Slides | Pitch | Live co-editing and comments on free plans; Pitch adds desktop apps, offline work and speaker view. |
| Stay inside PowerPoint | Plus AI | Claude for PowerPoint | Both work in the open .pptx, so there is no export step; both need a paid plan. |
When you do not need an alternative at all. If you already pay for Microsoft 365 and your organisation's template lives in PowerPoint, the problem is usually the hours spent building slides, not the software. Stay, and add an AI tool that works inside PowerPoint or exports an editable .pptx. The section "Do you need to leave PowerPoint at all?" covers the free web version, the current Microsoft 365 prices and Copilot.
What changed this month (14 September – 13 October 2026)
Nine of the fifteen tools, plus PowerPoint itself, published a presentation-relevant change on an official page in the last thirty days. The table lists each one with its date; changes that moved a score are marked. Next month's edition will add a changelog of score movements against this baseline.
| Date | Tool | What changed (official source) |
|---|---|---|
| 12 Oct | ONLYOFFICE | DocSpace becomes a set of modular apps (AI agents, Forms, Rooms, Files); existing spaces move over automatically [5]. |
| 10 Oct | ONLYOFFICE | Docs 10.0: AI tools in the presentation editor, Outline, Notes Page and Handout Master views, and export of slides as GIF or video. The free cloud version has it now; self-hosted builds follow [5]. Scored: AI and research 3. |
| 9 Oct | Beautiful.ai | Blog post on the guided Create with AI flow, which asks about audience and goal before the outline; the changelog lists it on 28 September, with "turn a template into an AI presentation" (beta) on 29 September and team asset images on 25 September [12]. |
| 8 Oct | Claude | Claude Docs, Slides and Design are out of beta on every plan, Free included; Slides has been on Free since 16 September, and Enterprise switches it on by default from 15 October [15]. Scored: free plan 5. |
| 2 and 8 Oct | LibreOffice | Version 26.8.1 announced on 2 October and downloadable from 8 October, with about 40 fixes centred on Office Open XML files, including .pptx files that made Impress close on opening. Production users are pointed to 26.2, supported until 30 November 2026 [4]. |
| 6 Oct | Gamma | Gamma 5: wider visual styles, a switch between agent editing and a freeform canvas, enterprise connectors, and PowerPoint and PDF import that keeps the original design [11]. Scored: design help 5, import 5. |
| 6 Oct | Pitch | The Anything block: describe a custom element and Pitch builds it in the theme's colours and fonts [10]. |
| 29 Sep | Keynote | Version 15.4 in the App Store: new themes and image generation for Apple Creator Studio subscribers, improved slide generation (beta), and "request access" to a shared presentation for everyone [3]. |
| 24 Sep | Google Slides | Beta: import PowerPoint files into client-side encrypted Slides, for Enterprise Plus and Education editions [2]. |
| 18 Sep | Genspark | Plus and Pro plans gained a weekly free quota for standard-mode tasks in AI Slides and other agents [14]. |

No dated presentation change was found in the window on the official pages of Canva (its newsroom shows no dates), Prezi (product updates last edited on 2 April 2026), Zoho Show (latest "What's new" entry in June 2026), WPS Office or Plus AI (changelog last updated in June 2024).
How we ranked: nine criteria, 100 points, official pages only
Every tool is scored 1 to 5 on nine criteria with published weights; the total is the sum of weight × score, divided by 5, so a perfect sheet is 100. This is a documented-capability score: a point is awarded only for a capability the vendor states on an official page (pricing page, help centre, user guide, release notes or official blog) that we opened on 13 October 2026. It is not a new hands-on test, and it measures what a product is built and documented to do, not the quality of a particular deck. Our published hands-on tests are the June 2026 twelve-tool test and the September 2026 Arabic brief test; this page reuses no score from either.

Why these nine, and why these weights
Most people who look for a PowerPoint alternative still receive PowerPoint files and still have to send them, so the round trip carries 20 points. The free plan carries 15 because "free" is in a large share of these searches and it is where vendors differ most: watermarks, one-time credits, missing exports. AI drafting carries 15 because it is the reason many people look at alternatives in 2026, and research counts most when the source reaches the slide. Design help, collaboration, platforms and file import carry 10 each: they decide how much work is left after the first draft and where you can do it. Languages and presenting tools carry 5 each; they are decisive for some readers and neutral for most.
| Criterion | Weight | What a 5 means | What a 1 means (and the steps between) |
|---|---|---|---|
| PowerPoint round trip | 20 | Opens or imports .pptx and saves or exports an editable .pptx, both on the free plan with no badge. Tools with a PowerPoint add-in that builds or edits slides in the open file also score 5 (their price is scored under Free plan). | No documented route. 4: both directions, but export is paid or badged on free, or import drops whole content types such as charts. 3: one direction converts content to images or new layouts. 2: PDF or image export only. |
| Free plan reality | 15 | Free with no time limit, no card, no watermark, and an editable .pptx export, with a recurring allowance where AI is involved. | No free use. 4: free with a real limit (export badge, one-time AI credits, ads). 3: free to create, but .pptx export or private content is paid or not documented on free. 2: a time-limited trial only. |
| AI drafts and research | 15 | A full deck from a prompt or your files, with web research and sources shown on the slides. | No built-in AI. 4: full deck plus documented web research, sources not on the slide. 3: full deck from a prompt, outline or file, no research. 2: AI for parts only. |
| Design help | 10 | Layouts designed for you (AI or smart layouts) and your own template or brand applied as the style. | No themes. 4: one of the two, plus a template library. 3: a library of 100+ templates, layout by hand. 2: a basic set of templates. |
| Collaboration | 10 | Real-time co-editing, comments and version history, all on the free plan. | Single-user files. 4: co-editing plus comments or versions, or all three only on paid plans. 3: edit or comment sharing without documented real-time co-editing, or two collaborators at most. 2: comments or view links only. |
| Platforms and offline | 10 | Desktop apps for Windows, Mac and Linux, or web plus desktop plus mobile apps with documented offline use. | One desktop OS only. 4: web plus desktop and mobile apps, or one vendor's device family plus a web version. 3: web plus mobile apps, a phone-ready web app or add-ins. 2: web only. |
| Import your files | 10 | All five file types feed a deck: PDF, Word, Excel or CSV, PowerPoint and images. | Text only. 4: four types. 3: two or three types. 2: one type, usually PowerPoint. |
| Languages incl. RTL | 5 | Right-to-left layout documented: slides or pages mirror for Arabic or Hebrew, not just the text. | No language information. 4: right-to-left text or paragraph direction. 3: Arabic or Hebrew named in a language list. 2: a multilingual claim without a list, or a list without Arabic and Hebrew. |
| Presenting tools | 5 | Presenter view with notes plus two of: live captions, audience Q&A or live broadcast, recording or rehearsal, screen-reader or accessibility checks. | Nothing documented. 4: presenter view plus one of those. 3: presenter view alone, or full-screen present mode with share links. 2: present only by exporting. |
Rules applied throughout. "Not stated on an official page" scores as if absent, even where a tool is widely believed to do something; this keeps the method repeatable and rewards vendors who document their products. Where two official pages disagree (Pitch's pricing table and its plan cards on PowerPoint export; Beautiful.ai's per-user and three-user wording for Team), we use the more cautious reading and say so. Ties are broken by the heaviest criterion, then the next in weight order. Prices are list prices shown on 13 October 2026 in the currency the page displayed; several vendors show local currencies, so your price may differ. NOXI's facts come from its product documentation and are scored by the same anchors as every other tool.
Who should re-weight
The weights reflect someone who exchanges PowerPoint files with clients or colleagues. Three re-weightings show how much the order depends on them. If you present only from a browser and never send files, move 10 points from the round trip to collaboration: Keynote and Zoho Show move up a place and Claude drops from fourth to seventh. If you work offline and do not want AI, move AI's 15 points to platforms: Canva leads with 88, five tools tie at 86 (WPS Office, ONLYOFFICE, NOXI, Keynote and Google Slides) and LibreOffice Impress climbs from fourteenth to tenth. If you present in Arabic or Hebrew, set languages to 20 (taking 5 each from the round trip, AI and presenting): NOXI (94) and Canva (87) separate from the field, and Zoho Show and Pitch fall. The re-run takes about fifteen minutes per tool with the anchors above.
The ranking: 15 PowerPoint alternatives, October 2026
NOXI leads with 92 out of 100, followed by Google Slides (86), Canva (85), Claude (84) and Keynote (83); four tools tie at 80 and are ordered by the heaviest criterion. Read the "best for" column as a fit statement: a lower total can still be the right tool when its strengths match your constraint.

The scoring table: every tool on every criterion
Read a row as a profile, not a grade. A 1 or 2 in AI is normal for an office suite, and a 2 or 3 on platforms is normal for a web-only AI maker; the weights decide how much each matters, and you can change them.

Documented-capability scores from official pages checked on 13 October 2026. Total = Σ (weight × score) ÷ 5. Example, Google Slides: (20×5 + 15×5 + 15×4 + 10×4 + 10×5 + 10×4 + 10×2 + 5×4 + 5×5) ÷ 5 = 430 ÷ 5 = 86.
The round trip to .pptx: four ways back to PowerPoint
Every alternative on this list reaches PowerPoint by one of four routes, and the route decides what you must check before you send the file. Native editors open and save .pptx as if it were their own format; add-ins work inside the PowerPoint file itself; design-first tools build in their own format and export a .pptx; converters rebuild the deck and send pictures or text back.
| Route | Tools | What the official pages say about limits | What to check before sending |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open and save .pptx | Google Slides, Keynote, LibreOffice Impress, ONLYOFFICE, WPS Office, Zoho Show | Google converts embedded charts and videos to images and SmartArt to drawings [2]; Keynote substitutes unsupported fonts and imports SmartArt as a shape [3]; Zoho Show turns 3D and radar charts into images and does not support bidirectional text on import [7]; LibreOffice lists AutoShapes, spacing and master backgrounds among conversion problems [4]. | Charts, SmartArt, fonts and the slide master |
| Work inside PowerPoint | Plus AI; Claude, Genspark and Beautiful.ai add-ins | The deck stays a native PowerPoint file; Plus AI recommends desktop PowerPoint on Windows or Mac [13]; Claude's add-in reads the slide master, layouts, fonts and colours [15]. | That the add-in used your layouts, not new ones |
| Build, then export | NOXI, Gamma, Canva, Claude Slides, Pitch, Beautiful.ai, Genspark | NOXI writes real text boxes and embeds fonts, Arabic included [1]; Gamma exports reflect Present mode, the slide master is blank and a badge appears on free exports [11]; Canva warns the design may look different without installed fonts [8]; Pitch falls back to Calibri where it cannot embed a font [10]. | Fonts, text editability, badges, notes |
| Convert | Prezi | Prezi AI extracts the text and picks visuals from its library; the classic importer brings each slide in as a single image [9]. | Everything: treat the result as a new deck |
The ten-minute round-trip test
Before you commit a team to any tool on this list, run your own hardest deck through it once. This is the test the round-trip criterion stands for, and it takes about ten minutes.
- Pick a real deck, not a demo. One with a chart, a table, a custom font, your slide master and, if you work in two languages, a right-to-left slide.
- Import it, then change one number and one title. If the tool rebuilt the deck instead of opening it, note which elements came back as pictures.
- Export or save as .pptx.Check whether the free plan adds a badge or watermark, and which plan removes it.
- Open the file in PowerPoint on a different computer.A machine without your fonts shows substitutions that your own machine hides.
- Click into three text boxes and one table.Editable text and real tables are the difference between a file and a picture of a file.
- Check the master and the notes.Open Slide Master view and the notes pane; some exports leave the master blank or drop notes.
- Write down what broke. If it is under five minutes of fixing per deck, the tool passes for your use.
The 15 tools, ranked, with what each one documents
Each card gives the score on every criterion with the documented fact behind it, then a fit statement. Prices are list prices shown on 13 October 2026; the Sources section links the exact pages.
1. NOXI 92 / 100
Round trip (5). Upload a PowerPoint deck and NOXI can beautify, restructure, complete or reformat it; download any deck as an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, Arabic included, or as a PDF, free and with no watermark. Free plan (5). No card and no watermark; each account gets a monthly allowance of 1,000 credits, and a full deck uses about 25. AI and research (5). Describe your topic and NOXI builds the full deck; you can review the outline first or generate straight away. When you start from a prompt, NOXI researches the topic on the web first, and slides with figures carry a source line linking to where each number came from. Design help (5). Each slide is designed for you, and Match reference takes any PowerPoint, PDF or even a screenshot and designs the new deck in that style: colours, typography, layouts and visual rhythm. Add your logo and brand colour. Collaboration (4). Invite people by email or link as viewers or editors, edit together in real time, and restore earlier versions. Platforms (3). A web app that also works on your phone: generate, edit with AI, present and share. Import (5). PDF, Word, Excel or CSV, PowerPoint and images, up to 200 MB per file, turned into a structured deck with charts. Languages (5). Full Arabic interface and right-to-left slides where timelines and tables run right to left; Arabic and English can share a slide, and Translate a deck makes a separate language version. Presenting (3). Present full-screen straight from NOXI, or share a view-only link. Uploading files and downloading need a free account.
Best when: you want a researched first draft with sources on the slides, built in your own template from your own files, and delivered to PowerPoint users as an editable file at no cost.
2. Google Slides 86 / 100
Round trip (5). Edit, comment and collaborate directly on .pptx files, with changes saved in the original Office format; converting to Slides format makes a copy, and you can download back as .pptx. Embedded charts and videos convert to images and SmartArt to Google Drawings. Free plan (5). Anyone with a Google Account can create in Slides; recording and speaker spotlight need a Workspace plan. AI and research (4). Gemini generates a full presentation and can search the web, Drive, Gmail or Chat, listing what it used under Sources; it needs an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan (Business Standard and above, not Starter) and is available on desktop and in English only. Design help (4). Pre-designed templates, plus Gemini slide and image generation from a prompt and your Drive content. Collaboration (5). Live editing on the same slide, comments and revision history. Platforms (4). Web and mobile apps; offline in Chrome or Edge with the Google Docs Offline extension. Import (2). PowerPoint files; other documents feed Gemini only as Drive references. Languages (4). Right-to-left controls and a paragraph direction button. Presenting (5). Presenter view with speaker notes, live captions (English only) and audience Q&A from any device. Business Standard is listed at €13.60 per user a month on the page as shown to us.
Best when: your team works in a browser, co-edits in real time, and exchanges PowerPoint files with clients who never leave Office.
3. Canva 85 / 100
Round trip (4). PowerPoint import is in beta on desktop browsers: .pptx up to 300 MB and 300 slides, with charts, SmartArt, 3D objects and WordArt ignored. Presentations download as .pptx, but may look different in PowerPoint without the fonts installed, and animations and embedded videos are not exported. Free plan (3). Free costs US$0 with 1.6 million templates and up to 20 AI uses; .pptx export on the free plan is not stated. Pro is US$144 a year for one person, Business US$250 a year per person. AI and research (4). Generate a presentation from a prompt or outline, with an editable outline first; attach a PDF or Word file for context; Web Research finds current information on the topic. Design help (5). AI-designed decks, a brand kit and 1.6 million templates. Collaboration (4). Real-time editing and comments on the free plan; version history on paid plans. Platforms (5). Web, Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Chromebook; Canva Offline is listed on the free plan. Import (5). PowerPoint, Word, PDF (pages arrive as images), Excel and CSV, and images. Languages (5). Canva AI supports 17 languages including Arabic, and translation offers "mirror page to match text direction" for right-to-left languages. Presenting (5). Presenter window with notes, present-and-record, Canva Live audience Q&A, and an accessibility checker for contrast, small text and alt text.
Best when: the deck is one of many designs you make, you want templates and a brand kit in the same place, and you will check the .pptx after download.

Design systems apply your colours, fonts and components to new decks, and the add-in builds on your firm's master. Collaboration (3). Share with view, comment or edit access, and a comment mode on slides; real-time co-editing and version history are not described. Platforms (4). Web, desktop and mobile apps, the PowerPoint add-in on web, Windows and Mac, and a Google Slides add-on in beta on paid plans. Import (4). PDF, DOCX, CSV, XLSX and images, up to 500 MB per file and 20 files per chat. Languages (2). No right-to-left or slide-language documentation was found. Presenting (3). Present inside Claude with keyboard controls; a screen reader announces slide number and title.
Best when: you already draft in Claude, want a free deck you can finish in PowerPoint or Google Slides, or will pay for an add-in that builds on your firm's template.
5. Keynote 83 / 100
Round trip (5). Opens and edits .pptx and .ppt files and exports to .pptx; Apple's compatibility table says unsupported fonts are substituted, most PowerPoint transitions and builds are supported, and SmartArt arrives as a shape. Free plan (5). Free in the App Store; creating, editing and real-time collaboration need no subscription. AI and research (3). With Apple Creator Studio ($12.99 a month or $129 a year), Keynote turns a text outline into slides with images (beta), generates presenter notes and cleans up a slide's layout; some features need an Apple Intelligence-capable device. Exports PDF, PNG and .pptx on every plan, with a "Made by Gamma" badge on free exports; exports reflect Present mode, the slide master is blank and fonts are embedded. Free plan (4). 400 credits at sign-up that do not refresh and up to 10 slides per prompt; Plus is $9 a seat a month ($108 a year), Pro $18, Ultra $90. AI and research (4). Presenting (3). You present in PowerPoint or Google Slides.
Best when: you have decided to stay in PowerPoint or Google Slides and want AI generation inside your existing template.
14. LibreOffice Impress 68 / 100
Round trip (5). Opens .ppt, .pps and .pptx and saves back to Office formats, with .pptx available as the default; the help pages list AutoShapes, spacing, master backgrounds and some multimedia effects among conversion problems, and macros rarely run in both suites. Free plan (5). Free and open source, with no account. AI and research (1). No built-in AI; the project describes itself as having "no forced AI". Design help (2). Slide templates, count not stated. Collaboration (2). The help documents saving versions of a file; real-time co-editing is not part of the desktop suite. Platforms (5). Windows, macOS and Linux, fully offline. Import (2). 15. Prezi 67 / 100
Round trip (3). Prezi AI extracts the text of a PowerPoint and picks visuals from its library, while the classic importer brings each slide in as a single image; Prezi AI downloads as PPTX, PDF or a web link, and download is listed under Plus. Free plan (3). Basic is free with 500 AI credits and up to 10 talking points, and content is public; Standard is $5 a month, Plus $15 and Premium $25, billed yearly. AI and research (3). A complete presentation from a prompt or a PPTX, PDF or DOCX file up to 170,000 characters, refined in conversation. Design help (5). AI design in classic slides or the zooming format, with smart branding on paid plans. Collaboration (3). Two collaborators on individual plans; comments on Teams plans. Platforms (4). Web, a desktop app for offline presenting on Plus, and mobile viewer apps. Import (3). PowerPoint, PDF and Word. Languages (2). Prezi AI accepts any language its model supports; the editor lists 33 languages without Arabic or Hebrew. Presenting (5). Presenter view, video recording, presenting over video calls and broadcast links for live presenting.
Best when: a zooming, non-linear talk is the point and you present from Prezi rather than send a PowerPoint file.
Do you need to leave PowerPoint at all?
Often you do not: PowerPoint for the web is free with a Microsoft account, and AI that works inside PowerPoint removes the export step entirely. Leave when the subscription, the platform or the way your team collaborates is the real constraint, not just the time it takes to build slides.
| Option | Price shown on 13 October 2026 | What you get | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| PowerPoint for the web | Free with a Microsoft account | Web and mobile PowerPoint, real-time co-authoring, 5 GB of cloud storage | You only need to open, edit and return .pptx files |
| Microsoft 365 Basic | $19.99 a year | Web and mobile apps; Microsoft says AI features are not included | You want more storage but no desktop apps |
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $99.99 a year or $9.99 a month | Desktop PowerPoint with Copilot, 1 TB of storage, one person | You want desktop PowerPoint with AI drafting |
| Microsoft 365 Family / Premium | $129.99 / $199.99 a year | Up to six people (AI for the owner only) / extensive Copilot usage | Several people at home, or heavy Copilot use |
| Office Home 2024 | $179.99 once | A one-time purchase for one PC or Mac | You want no subscription at all |
Copilot in PowerPoint builds a deck from a prompt, a Word file or your organisation's templates, in PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 on Windows and Mac, on iPad and in the Copilot web app with a work account; it supports one output language at a time [16]. If you stay, the add-ins in our ranking of AI add-ins for PowerPoint are the shortlist, and our guide on AI presentations in your own template shows how to keep the corporate master intact. If you leave, our test of which AI tools export a real PPTX explains what to check in the file.
How to choose: a four-question decision tree
Four questions, asked in order, pick the right alternative for most people: do you need to work offline, must the file go back to PowerPoint, should AI draft it, and must it follow your own template? The first "yes" decides the category; the scores then decide the tool inside it.

| If this is true | Choose | Check before you commit |
|---|---|---|
| You present in rooms without reliable internet | LibreOffice Impress, ONLYOFFICE, Keynote, or a desktop app such as Pitch's | Present from the same laptop you will take to the room |
| Clients edit your files in PowerPoint | A native editor, an add-in, or an AI maker with a free editable export | Run the ten-minute round-trip test above on your hardest deck |
| Most of your time goes into building slides from scratch | An AI maker: NOXI, Gamma, Claude, Genspark, Canva | Whether figures arrive with a source you can show |
| Your organisation has an approved template | A tool that reads your template, or one that works inside PowerPoint | Masters, fonts and colours after export |
| The budget is zero | Google Slides, Zoho Show, LibreOffice Impress, ONLYOFFICE, Keynote, NOXI, Claude | Which plan removes badges and allows .pptx export |
| You also need posts, posters and documents | Canva, then Gamma | What turns into pictures in the .pptx |
What it costs a team: a worked example
For a small team, the yearly bill ranges from $0 to a few thousand dollars depending on which plan removes the badge and unlocks the .pptx export. The example below uses list prices shown on 13 October 2026; the company is fictional.
| Tool and plan | Per person per year | Six people per year | Arithmetic |
|---|---|---|---|
| NOXI, free | $0 | $0 | 24 decks × 25 credits = 600 credits a month across the team; each account has 1,000, so each person's 4 decks use 100 |
| Claude, Free or Pro | $0 or $200 | $0 or $1,200 | Slides is on Free within usage limits; Pro is $200 billed yearly × 6 |
| Gamma, Plus | $108 | $648 | $9 × 12 = $108 per seat; × 6 = $648 |
| Plus AI, Basic | $120 | $720 | $10 × 12 = $120 per user; × 6 = $720 |
| Beautiful.ai, Pro | $174 | $1,044 | $14.50 × 12 = $174; × 6 = $1,044 (Team, for co-editing, is $40 × 12 × 6 = $2,880) |
| Genspark, Plus | $239.99 | $1,439.94 | $19.99 a month billed as $239.99 a year; × 6 = $1,439.94 |
| Canva, Business | $250 | $1,500 | Pro is for one person; Business is US$250 per person × 6 = $1,500 |
| Pitch, Team | €180 | €1,080 | Plus has one member; Team is €15 × 12 = €180 per seat; × 6 = €1,080 |
Reading the result. The spread between the cheapest and the most expensive paid route is $1,500 − $648 = $852 a year for this team, before tax. Price is rarely the deciding factor at this size; the round trip is. Larkfield should run the ten-minute test on its hardest client deck with its two cheapest shortlisted options, and then compare what each one leaves to fix in PowerPoint. A team that never sends files would rank these options differently, which is why the weights are published.
Three terms that settle most arguments
Most disagreements about "the best PowerPoint alternative" end once three terms are pinned down.
Three prompts to test any AI alternative with your own deck
Compare AI tools on your own work, not on their demos. The three prompts below are written for NOXI; the first two work in any AI tool on this list, so you can score the results with the same anchors.
I attached our PowerPoint deck "[file name]". Rebuild it as a [10]-slide presentation in the same style: keep our colours, fonts and layouts, keep every number exactly as it is, turn each slide title into one full sentence that states the finding, and keep the table on slide [4] as a table. I will download it as PowerPoint and open it on another computer.
Turn the attached [report / memo] in [PDF / Word] into a [12]-slide deck for [audience, e.g. the client's leadership team]. Start with a one-slide summary of the recommendation, show every figure in a chart or table with its source, add a timeline for [period], and end with the decision we need and by when. Use my photos as-is where I attached them.
On slide [5], change the chart to a horizontal bar chart sorted from largest to smallest. Across the whole deck, shorten every title to one line and use the colours of the attached template [attach your .pptx or a screenshot]. Then create a separate [Arabic / English] version of the deck.
Build your deck in NOXI and return it to PowerPoint: 6 steps
This is the workflow for anyone who wants an AI draft but must hand over a PowerPoint file. Uploading files and downloading need a free NOXI account.
Step 1 — Choose a starting point: a prompt, a file or an old deck
Describe your topic in the input box, or choose Create from file and upload a PDF, Word document, Excel or CSV file, PowerPoint or image of up to 200 MB. To rework a deck you already have, choose Beautify my deck or Improve structure.
Step 2 — Attach your template with Match reference
Upload your approved PowerPoint template, a previous deck as a PDF, or a screenshot of a slide you like. NOXI designs the new deck in that style: colours, typography, layouts and visual rhythm. Add your logo and brand colour.
Step 3 — Review the outline in Plan mode, then generate
Paste Prompt 1 or 2 with your details and choose Plan mode to check the slide order before anything is built. When you start from a prompt, NOXI researches the topic on the web first, and slides with figures carry a source line. Watch each slide being built.
Step 4 — Edit by chat or by clicking an element
Ask for a change to one slide or the whole deck in plain English or Arabic, as in Prompt 3, or click any element and tell the AI what to change. On desktop, sketch on the slide and the AI follows your drawing. Edit text on the slide and chart numbers in the data editor.
Step 5 — Download PowerPoint and open it on another computer
Download the deck as an editable PowerPoint (.pptx), free and with no watermark, with real text boxes and embedded fonts, Arabic included, or as a PDF for pre-reading. Then open the file on a colleague's machine and click through it before you send it; that habit protects any deck, whichever tool made it.
Step 6 — Share, co-edit and present
Share a view-only or edit link, or invite colleagues by email to edit with you in real time, and restore an earlier version from the history if needed. Present full-screen from NOXI or your phone, and use Translate a deck for a separate language version.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the best free alternative to PowerPoint?
- It depends on what free must include. For a classic editor, Google Slides is free with a Google account, edits .pptx files in their own format and offers live co-editing; Zoho Show is free with no ads. For offline use, LibreOffice Impress and ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors are free on Windows, Mac and Linux. For an AI draft with a free editable PowerPoint export and no watermark, NOXI gives each account 1,000 credits a month, and a deck uses about 25.
- Is Google Slides as good as PowerPoint?
- For most everyday decks, yes, and it is better at real-time collaboration: live co-editing, comments and version history are free. It edits .pptx files in their original format, but converts embedded charts and videos to images and SmartArt to drawings. Gemini can generate a full deck only on eligible paid plans, on desktop and in English, as of 13 October 2026.
- What is the best offline alternative to PowerPoint?
- LibreOffice Impress is free, open source and runs fully offline on Windows, macOS and Linux with no account; it opens and saves .pptx. ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors are also free on all three systems and add a cloud option for co-editing. On Apple devices, Keynote works offline and exports to .pptx. Web tools can still be used in rooms without internet if you export a PDF or .pptx in advance.
- What is the best PowerPoint alternative for Mac?
- Keynote, for most Mac users: it is free, opens and exports .pptx, collaborates in real time through iCloud and has a strong presenter display. Its AI features, such as turning an outline into slides, need an Apple Creator Studio subscription at $12.99 a month or $129 a year. Pitch has a Mac app with offline work if your team presents from shared links.
- Is there a free PowerPoint alternative for Linux?
- Yes. LibreOffice Impress, ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors and WPS Office all document Linux versions. LibreOffice is free and open source under MPL 2.0, ONLYOFFICE's desktop apps are free for personal and professional use with an open-source server edition, and WPS offers a free Standard plan. Browser-based tools such as Google Slides, Zoho Show, Canva and NOXI also run on Linux through a web browser.
- Is there an AI alternative to PowerPoint?
- Yes. NOXI, Gamma, Canva, Claude, Genspark, Beautiful.ai and Prezi all generate a full deck from a prompt or a file, and several export an editable .pptx. They differ on research and price: NOXI and Genspark show sources on the slide, NOXI and Claude document PowerPoint export on their free plans, and Gamma's free export carries a badge. Plus AI and Copilot add AI inside PowerPoint instead.
- Can I use PowerPoint for free instead?
- Partly. Microsoft offers PowerPoint for the web free with a Microsoft account, with real-time co-authoring and 5 GB of cloud storage. Desktop PowerPoint with Copilot comes with Microsoft 365 Personal at $99.99 a year or $9.99 a month, as shown on Microsoft's US comparison page on 13 October 2026. Microsoft 365 Basic, at $19.99 a year, does not include AI features.
- Which alternatives open and save PowerPoint files without breaking them?
- Google Slides, Keynote, LibreOffice Impress, ONLYOFFICE, WPS Office and Zoho Show all open .pptx and save it back, and each documents some conversions, such as substituted fonts or charts turned into images. Add-ins like Plus AI work inside the PowerPoint file itself. Whichever you choose, open the returned file in PowerPoint on another computer before sending it.
- Is Canva a good alternative to PowerPoint for presentations?
- Yes, if design range matters most: Canva scores 85 here, with 1.6 million templates, AI generation, Web Research, real-time co-editing and strong presenting tools. Its PowerPoint import is in beta and ignores charts, SmartArt and WordArt, and its .pptx download may look different without the fonts installed. Pro costs US$144 a year for one person.
- How often is this ranking updated?
- Monthly, on the same URL. Each edition re-checks every price and capability on the vendors' official pages, lists what changed in the previous thirty days and keeps the same nine criteria and anchors, so scores stay comparable from month to month. This October 2026 edition was checked on 13 October 2026.
Sources and how this ranking was made
Every tool fact comes from an official vendor page (pricing page, help centre, user guide, release notes or official blog) opened on 13 October 2026. Scores are an editorial assessment by the NOXI team using the anchors in the method section, not a new hands-on test. Prices are shown as each page displayed them, in its currency; several vendors localise prices. Larkfield Advisory is a fictional example.
