Disclosure: NOXI publishes this page. It is a presentation maker, not an assistant, so it sits outside the Grok vs Gemini head-to-head and appears once, as a reference row in the presentation section, scored on the same seven rules. That is why the rules, the weights and the source of every cell are printed, including the one rule where both Grok and Google finish ahead of that reference row.
Grok vs Gemini: on seven printed assistant rules checked on 2 November 2026, Google Gemini scores 94 and Grok 89. On seven presentation rules the order flips, Grok for PowerPoint 84 against the Gemini app 66, because Grok edits your own PowerPoint file while the Gemini app exports to Google Slides or PDF.
Two rubrics, two winners. Most comparisons of these two pick one answer and stop, which is wrong for half the people reading. They also get the company wrong: the footer on x.ai reads "© 2026 SpaceX Super Intelligence LLC" [1]. Everything below comes from x.ai's and Google's own pages, opened logged out on 2 November 2026, on the same seven rules as our ChatGPT vs Claude and ChatGPT vs Gemini pages.
Grok vs Gemini at a glance (2026)
Gemini leads Grok by 5 points as an assistant, 94 to 89, and loses by 18 as a slide maker, 66 to 84: two products, two opposite answers.
| Product | Assistant rules (A) | Presentation rules (P) | Why, in one line | Free & entry price, as the page printed it | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Gemini | 94 | 66 (the Gemini app) | Five free capabilities documented, a published consumer context window, six surfaces | Free "$0/ month with a Google Account" · AI Plus "$4.99/ month"; region selector read United States, no currency code printed | gemini.google/us/subscriptions/?hl=en, support.google.com/gemini · opened 2 November 2026, 10:24 to 10:34 UTC [11][12] |
| Grok (xAI) | 89 | 84 (Grok for PowerPoint) | Custom MCP connectors on every account, four Office add-ins, no consumer context window anywhere | Free "$0" · Plus "$8" "/month"; a bare dollar sign, and the page names no currency | x.ai/pricing, x.ai/grok, docs.x.ai · opened 2 November 2026, 10:22 to 10:35 UTC [1][2][5] |
The presentation section prints a third row for context: NOXI, a dedicated deck maker you can use inside ChatGPT and Claude, scored 98 on the same seven rules. It is a reference row outside the head-to-head, because a deck tool is not an assistant.
Who should pick what
The 5-point gap matters less than one question: where does the finished file have to go. Each line rests on one documented fact.
- If you want a published context window, pick Gemini. Google's plan table reads "Without an AI plan 32k tokens" and "AI Pro & AI Ultra 1 million tokens", while neither docs.x.ai/grok/faq nor the user guide contains the words context window [12][5].
- If you want AI inside PowerPoint, Word and Excel, pick Grok. x.ai's add-in page says "Also available for Word, Excel, and Outlook", and Microsoft's listing adds the condition: the add-in "is currently available to SuperGrok, Heavy, Business and Enterprise plans" [3][10].
- If you want the cheapest paid step, pick Gemini. Google AI Plus is printed at "$4.99/ month" against "$8" "/month" for Grok Plus, although both take full marks on a rule that asks only whether the cheapest tier is ten a month or less [11][1].
- If you want your own tools plugged in on a free account, pick Grok. docs.x.ai says "Connectors are available to all Grok users" and lists "Custom MCP Tunneling" among them, while Google's route asks you to "Be 18 or over and in the US." [6][15]
- If you live in Chrome and Gmail, pick Gemini, the only one of the two with a documented browser surface: Gemini in Chrome and Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Vids are both on the subscriptions page [11][2].
- If the deliverable is an editable .pptx and you do not own PowerPoint, neither is the answer: use a dedicated deck tool such as NOXI, which exports an editable PowerPoint file with real text boxes on a free account [21].
Key numbers
The four scores are this page's arithmetic on the printed rules: documented capability, not popularity.
Who makes Grok and Gemini, and what the company is called now
Five official surfaces print five different brand strings for Grok on 2 November 2026, and none of them says xAI Corp, which is what most comparison pages still print.

The footer on the pricing page, the Grok page and the news posts reads "© 2026 SpaceX Super Intelligence LLC" with "Built with Grok", and page titles end "| SpaceXSI" [1][2]. The Privacy Policy, "Last Updated: October 27, 2026", names "SpaceX Super Intelligence LLC ("SpaceXSI")" and adds that it "is a separate company from X Corp." [9] The money goes elsewhere again: "Subscriptions are only sold directly through X Subscription Corp." [1] And Microsoft's listing still reads "Grok by SpaceXAI for PowerPoint" [10]. We write Grok (xAI) for the product, because that is how the ladder reads, and name SpaceXSI where the legal entity matters.
How we scored Grok and Gemini
Both are scored on documented capability from their own vendors' pages, opened logged out on 2 November 2026, on the seven rules we apply to every assistant, so a cell can only be filled by a sentence on an official page.
| Code | Criterion | Weight | Full marks, and the lower anchors |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | Free plan | 20 | All five on the free plan: web search, uploads, image generation, file creation, app connections. 4 = four · 3 = three · 2 = two · 1 = one or none. |
| A2 | Entry price | 10 | The cheapest paid tier is ten a month or less. 4 = 10.01 to 15 · 3 = 15.01 to 20 · 2 = 20.01 to 30 · 1 = over 30. |
| A3 | Long documents | 10 | 1M tokens or more published for the consumer plan nearest twenty. 3 = 128K to under 1M · 2 = not published on a page that opens logged out · 1 = under 128K. API specifications do not count. |
| A4 | Tools on the plan nearest twenty | 20 | Five or six of: web search, deep research, image generation, voice conversation, file creation, video generation. 4 = four · 3 = three · 2 = two · 1 = one or none. |
| A5 | Add-ons for individuals | 15 | Custom MCP connectors on free and paid personal plans. 4 = paid plans only, or age or region limits · 3 = an app directory only · 2 = links to named services · 1 = none. |
| A6 | Training control | 15 | The vendor states that consumer chats are not used for training. 4 = an opt-out setting plus a mode excluded from training · 3 = an opt-out setting · 2 = opt-out by request · 1 = none. |
| A7 | Where it works | 10 | All six surfaces: web, desktop app, mobile app, a browser extension or vendor browser, an office add-in, the vendor's coding agent. 4 = five · 3 = four · 2 = three · 1 = two or fewer. |
Two printed clauses did real work. A desktop app counts if the vendor ships one that runs its assistant, which is why Grok Bot counts. And a context window must be published for a consumer plan on a page that opens without logging in, which is why API specifications count for neither side. The tie-break chain: ties are ordered alphabetically, and none arises at 94 and 89. The heaviest rules are A1 and A4 at 20.
What refused us first, and what happened an hour later. x.ai/pricing, x.ai/grok, x.ai/grok/powerpoint, x.ai/legal/privacy-policy and three Microsoft Marketplace addresses returned 403 to a logged-out command line request between 09:14 and 09:24 UTC. Every one opened in a browser between 10:22 and 10:26 UTC, and the listing then stated its plan gate. Two paths that refused, /legal/consumer-terms-of-service and /legal/privacy-policy-consumer, are not in x.ai's footer: the live ones are /legal/terms-of-service and /legal/privacy-policy. So the refusals were about how the request was made. A 403 is never a claim about a company, there is no documentation problem to report on either side, and every score here rests on a page that opened.
What changed recently
Four dated movements since 25 October, each with the date on the vendor's page and the time we read it.
| Date on the page | What moved | Source | Read on |
|---|---|---|---|
| 27 October 2026 | x.ai's Privacy Policy is now dated "Last Updated: October 27, 2026" and names "SpaceX Super Intelligence LLC ("SpaceXSI")", adding that it "is a separate company from X Corp." The live legal paths are /legal/privacy-policy and /legal/terms-of-service. | x.ai/legal/privacy-policy | 2 November 2026, 10:26 UTC |
| no date on the page | x.ai/pricing now prints a five-tier consumer ladder, Free $0, Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200, in a bare dollar sign with no currency code. On 24 October grok.com/plans served dirhams and used the SuperGrok plan names. | x.ai/pricing | 2 November 2026, 10:22 UTC |
| no date on the page | The word free moved. x.ai/grok/powerpoint now reads "Grok for PowerPoint is a Microsoft 365 add-in." and "Add it free from Microsoft Marketplace.", while only the news post of 16 June 2026 still says "a free Microsoft 365 add-in." | x.ai/grok/powerpoint and x.ai/news | 2 November 2026, 10:26 UTC |
| 2 November 2026 | Currency routing on Google's subscriptions page moved twice in an hour: the same address served dirhams at 09:13 and dollar figures at 09:14, the difference being the hl=en parameter, and by 10:24 gemini.google/subscriptions redirected to the /us/ page. | gemini.google/subscriptions | 2 November 2026, 10:24 UTC |
Gemini vs Grok on the seven assistant rules
Gemini scores 94 and Grok 89, and the whole 5-point gap sits in three cells: Gemini gains 6 on long documents and 2 on surfaces, and gives back 3 on add-ons, the one rule Grok wins outright.

The ratings and the arithmetic. Gemini 5, 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 5 on A1 to A7, which is 20 + 10 + 10 + 20 + 12 + 12 + 10 = 94. Grok 5, 5, 2, 5, 5, 4, 4, which is 20 + 10 + 4 + 20 + 15 + 12 + 8 = 89. The gap of 5 is A3 plus 6 and A7 plus 2, minus A5 three. Every cell below names the page it came from.
| Criterion | Google Gemini | Grok | Lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 Free plan (20) | 5 Free column: image generation and editing, Deep Research, Canvas, Gems, "15 GB of cloud storage"; uploads carry no plan limit [11][14] | 5 "Limited" on Chat, "Image generation (Imagine)" and Grok Build, plus uploads, Skills and connectors "available to all Grok users" [1][5][6][7] | Level |
| A2 Entry price (10) | 5 Google AI Plus at "$4.99/ month" [11] | 5 Plus at "$8" "/month" on x.ai's own page [1] | Level |
| A3 Long documents (10) | 5 "AI Pro & AI Ultra 1 million tokens" in Google's plan table; the plan nearest twenty is AI Pro [11][12] | 2 No consumer figure on any page that opened, and API specifications are excluded by the rule [5] | Gemini +6 |
| A4 Tools at about twenty (20) | 5 AI Pro lists the Pro model, "video generation", Google Flow credits, Gemini in Chrome and "Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Vids, and more" [11] | 5 Premium at $30 is the tier nearest twenty, ticking "Video generation", "Grok Bot", "Make stunning AI images & videos" and "Cloud agents & automations" [1][2] | Level |
| A5 Add-ons (15) | 4 Custom apps by MCP server URL, no plan needed, but "Be 18 or over and in the US" and "Only available in English" [15] | 5 "Connectors are available to all Grok users", with "Custom MCP Tunneling" in the connector list: the top anchor [6] | Grok +3 |
| A6 Training control (15) | 4 An opt-out setting plus a mode excluded from training: "Reviewed chats are retained for up to three years." [16] | 4 The same anchor: an "Improve the Model" setting, plus Private Chat, whose content "will not be included in model training." [8] | Level |
| A7 Where it works (10) | 5 Web, a desktop app ("Use the Gemini app on Mac"), mobile, Chrome, Gmail and Docs, and Google Antigravity [11][17] | 4 Web, Grok Bot, mobile, the Office add-ins and Grok Build. Five of six: no browser extension [1][2][3] | Gemini +2 |
| Total | 94 | 89 | Gemini +5 |
Grok vs Gemini which is better, rule by rule
Gemini is better by 5 points out of 100, which is small enough that two of the four sensitivity readings below move the gap by more than the gap itself.

Because five rules are level, the honest version of "which is better" is short. On A3 Google prints a context window per plan and xAI prints none, worth 6 points. On A7 Google runs in six surfaces against five, the missing one being a browser extension, worth 2. On A5 Grok opens custom MCP connectors to every account while Google's route is gated by age, country and language, worth 3 the other way [12][5][11][6][15].
Four sensitivity readings, all printed
- Equal weights, every rule worth 100 divided by 7: Gemini 94.3, Grok 85.7. The gap widens from 5 to about 9, because A3 is worth 10 in the real rubric and 14.3 under equal weights, so a reader who dislikes weighted rubrics gets a bigger Gemini lead, not a smaller one.
- Without A4, the heaviest shared rule, where both score 5, the remaining 80 points rescaled to 100: Gemini 92.5, Grok 86.3. The gap widens slightly, so the tie on tools was holding Grok up.
- Three readings of Grok's own cells, all defensible: 85 if "Every Grok account ships with built-in skills from xAI" is not read as free file creation (A1 to 4); 87 if Grok Bot is not counted as a desktop app (A7 to 3); 83 with both [7][2].
- Gemini 91 if the custom connected apps route is read as a directory route rather than custom MCP for individuals (A5 to 3), because of the age, country and English-only gates [15].
No reading on this rubric puts Grok ahead. For the same seven rules against a third assistant, read Grok vs ChatGPT.
Grok vs Gemini free: what each free tier documents, and what neither does
Both free tiers take the full 20 points, because each documents all five capabilities the rule counts, and they do it in two opposite styles.
Google enumerates. Its Free column names image generation and editing, Deep Research, Canvas, Gems, Gemini Notebook and "15 GB of cloud storage"; the uploads article sets no plan limit and allows "Up to 10 files (subject to availability)" at "up to 100 MB"; and Canvas documents "Click Export to Slides" [11][13][14]. xAI marks limits instead: "Limited" on Chat, on "Image generation (Imagine)" and on Grok Build. Its uploads name PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, PPTX and images at "150 MB", its Skills ship with "Every Grok account", and "Connectors are available to all Grok users" [1][5][6][7].
Neither documents a consumer context window on the xAI side, a .pptx export on the Google consumer side, a monthly allowance, or a number of free images a day. The practical difference is that one of the two tells you what you are getting: "Limited" is a real answer, and it is not a quantity. For the free-plan question across ten products, see Is ChatGPT free (November 2026).
Training, retention and the two data pages
Both vendors publish a data-control page with a named opt-out, which is why both score 4 and neither 5, and the two retention sentences are a long way apart. Google covers human review and a cap: "A subset of chats are reviewed by human reviewers (including Google's trained service providers) to help improve Google services.", and "Reviewed chats are retained for up to three years." [16] xAI's Consumer FAQs describe the switch, in Settings, then Data, then "Improve the Model", and add a mode that keeps nothing: "When using Private Chat, your conversation history will not be viewable to you and will be deleted from SpaceXSI systems within 30 days." A later answer on the same page adds the exceptions: deleted and Private Chat conversations "will be removed from our systems within 30 days, unless they have been de-identified or pseudoanonymized and disassociated from your account or we have to retain them for safety, security, or legal reasons." [8] Neither vendor reaches the top anchor, which asks for a statement that consumer chats are not used for training at all.
Slides: the second rubric, where the order flips
On the presentation rules the result reverses: Grok for PowerPoint scores 84 and the Gemini app 66, an 18-point gap whose largest single component is not export but editing depth, worth 8 of the 18.
We re-applied the rules of our AI presentation tools ranking on 2 November 2026. The ranking page does not show these rows: the rules are the ranking's, the scoring is this page's. Points = rating divided by 5, times the weight. P1 editable PPTX export 20, P2 editing depth 20, P3 research with sources on the slide 15, P4 import with a stated size limit 15, P5 languages including right-to-left layout 10, P6 free plan reality 10, P7 where it runs 10. The tie-break chain is P1, then P2, then P3, then table order.
| Row | P1 | P2 | P3 | P4 | P5 | P6 | P7 | Total | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grok for PowerPoint | 5 | 4 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 84 | x.ai/grok/powerpoint, x.ai/grok, docs.x.ai/grok/faq · 2 November 2026 [3][2][5] |
| Gemini app (Canvas) | 4 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 66 | support.google.com/gemini 16047321, 14903178, 13575153 · 2 November 2026 [13][14][18] |
| ref · NOXI, a dedicated deck maker you can use inside ChatGPT and Claude, scored on the same rules | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 98 | NOXI product documentation and noxi.ai/connect [21][22] |
The arithmetic. Grok: 20 + 16 + 9 + 15 + 6 + 8 + 10 = 84. Gemini app: 16 + 8 + 9 + 9 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 66. NOXI: 20 + 20 + 15 + 15 + 10 + 10 + 8 = 98. The gap, cell by cell: 18 points, made of P2 plus 8, P4 plus 6, P1 plus 4 and P7 plus 2, minus P5 two, with P3 and P6 level. So the headline is not only that Grok edits your file. Its add-in documents adding slides, applying styles and restructuring sections inside the deck, while Google's own Enterprise documentation for the same Canvas feature says "Each update generates a completely new Canvas artifact." [3][13][19]

- Grok for PowerPoint, 84. P1 5, the add-in edits the native file: "Real, editable slides." P2 4, three levels plus manual work, including "Add slides, apply styles, or restructure sections with one instruction", with no single-element edit stated [3]. P3 3, citations in the answer. P4 5 on the named file types and "150 MB" [5]. P5 3 on "30+ languages", with no list and no right-to-left statement [2].
- The Gemini app, 66. P1 4 on an editable native Slides file: "Click Export to Slides. You can also choose to export slides as a PDF." P2 2, one AI level plus manual refinement [13]. P4 3: "Gemini Apps support most file types" with a size limit and no named formats [14]. P5 4 on a language list that names Arabic, with no right-to-left statement [18]. P7 4, with no add-in documented for the consumer app [15].
- The reference row, 98. NOXI builds a designed deck from a topic, brief or outline, and prompt-started decks research the web first and put a source line on slides that carry figures. You can change the whole deck, one slide or one selected element by chat, or upload a PowerPoint, PDF or image as the style to match. It imports PDF, Word, Excel or CSV, PowerPoint and images up to 200 MB per file on a free account, builds right-to-left Arabic slides with four Arabic fonts, and exports an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF, with no watermark [21][22].
The .pptx question, stated exactly
A .pptx export from Canvas is documented only for Gemini Enterprise: "You can export to Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint, or PDF.", on a page that adds that "an administrator must enable the feature toggle" [19]. For the consumer app, Google's Workspace release note of 28 October 2025, "Generate presentations in the Gemini app", documents exporting a presentation "from the Gemini app directly to Google Slides", and its availability list names the Workspace editions plus "Google AI Pro and Ultra" and "Google AI Pro for Education". Free is not on it [20].
On the Grok side the file question is simple and the plan question is not. x.ai now reads "Grok for PowerPoint is a Microsoft 365 add-in." and "Add it free from Microsoft Marketplace.", while the news post of 16 June 2026 still says "a free Microsoft 365 add-in." [3][4] Microsoft's listing is more specific. Under Pricing it reads "Additional purchase may be required", and under Availability, "The PowerPoint Add-in is currently available to SuperGrok, Heavy, Business and Enterprise plans." The word free appears nowhere on it [10]. So the accurate sentence is this one: the add-in is free to install, and Microsoft's own listing says it needs a paid Grok plan. That moves no cell, because P1 and P7 score the capability and not the plan.
Five sensitivity readings on the slide rubric
- Equal weights: NOXI 97.1, Grok 82.9, Gemini app 68.6. The order holds.
- Without P1, the heaviest rule, the remaining 80 rescaled to 100: NOXI 97.5, Grok 80.0, Gemini app 62.5. Grok's lead widens to 17.5, so the verdict is not resting on the export rule alone.
- The Gemini app at 60 if the release note's plan list scopes deck generation to Google AI Pro and Ultra, so no free deck generation is documented (P6 to 1). The two Google pages genuinely disagree, and the published row keeps P6 at 4, the reading more favourable to Gemini [13][20].
- The Gemini app at 70 if "Export to Slides" is read as an editable native Slides file with no plan limit (P1 to 5) [13], and Grok at 88 if "Grok reads what you point it at" is read as a single-element edit (P2 to 5) [3].
- The reference row is 89 when a deck starts from an attached file, because research is prompt-started and off by default from a file (P3 to 2), and 94 without the connector and the plugin (P7 to 2).
There is one rule where both Grok and Google finish ahead of the reference row, and it is P7: Grok sits in four Office applications and Google in Chrome, Gmail and Docs, while the reference row runs in the browser, as a listed plugin in ChatGPT's plugin directory and as a custom connector in Claude, where Anthropic's help page states that free users are limited to one custom connector. Our sister page on the best ChatGPT plugins ranks twelve of them on their own rules.
Grok vs Gemini pricing, with currencies and dates
Both ladders start under ten a month, Google AI Plus at $4.99 and Grok Plus at $8, and neither page we read printed a currency code beside the figures.
x.ai/pricing opened at 10:22 UTC and printed the whole consumer ladder in a bare dollar sign. We searched it for USD, US$, AED and EUR and found none. The Google page is the same story: at 10:24 UTC its region selector read United States and no currency code appeared, and an hour earlier the same address had served dirhams.
| Step | Grok, x.ai/pricing at 10:22 UTC | Gemini, gemini.google/us/subscriptions/?hl=en at 10:24 UTC |
|---|---|---|
| Free | "$0", with "Limited" on Chat, image generation and Grok Build [1] | "$0/ month with a Google Account" [11] |
| Entry | Plus "$8" "/month" [1] | Google AI Plus "$4.99/ month" [11] |
| About twenty | No tier sits near twenty: Plus is $8 and the next step is Premium at $30 [1] | Google AI Pro "$19.99/ month" [11] |
| Above that | Super "$100" and Ultra "$200", both "/month" [1] | The Ultra tier at $199.99 [11] |
| Teams and business | "Teams $30+/user/month" and "Enterprise Custom" [1] | Gemini Enterprise is a separate product. We print no per-seat figure, because the page that carried one was not re-opened [19] |
| On currency | Nothing. A bare dollar sign, plus "Prices shown do not include applicable taxes or fees (e.g. VAT)" [1] | Nothing. The region selector read United States and no currency code appears [11] |
One disagreement worth printing. x.ai's own entry tier is $8, while the Apple App Store in-app purchase list on the United States storefront starts at $10. Two publisher-supplied figures for one step, so we name the source beside each rather than averaging them, and we never print App Store in-app purchases as x.ai prices. What holds in both readings is that no Grok tier sits near twenty a month, which is why the tools rule reads Premium at $30 for Grok and AI Pro at $19.99 for Google. Outside the United States, open both pages in your own country first.
What these rules don't measure
Fourteen rules across two rubrics leave out most of what people argue about, and several of the gaps favour the product that scores lower.
- Answer quality, accuracy and hallucination rates. No official page documents them in a comparable form, so no rule can score them.
- Reasoning, coding and benchmark results. Both vendors publish benchmark claims about their own models. We score no vendor benchmark, in either direction.
- Image and video quality, voice, latency and reliability. A tick says a feature is documented for a plan, never that it is good.
- What sits outside the rubric on each side. For Grok: four Office add-ins, Grok Bot, Grok Build, Imagine and Cursor Agent on the free column. For Gemini: Deep Research, Gemini Notebook, Google Flow credits, 15 GB of free storage, and already sitting in the Gmail and Docs most offices live in.
- Enterprise administration, compliance, data residency and regional availability. Any of them can decide a purchase, and Gemini Enterprise is a different product from the Gemini app scored here.
- How either behaves on your own documents. This is documented capability, not a hands-on test, and your own files are the test that counts.
What would change this ranking
Three things would move the numbers, each checkable on a named page.
- 1. xAI publishes a consumer context window. A3 is the only rule where the two rows differ by more than one point, and it carries the whole 5-point gap. If docs.x.ai/grok/faq, docs.x.ai/grok/user-guide or x.ai/grok prints a window for a consumer plan rather than an API model, A3 moves from 2 to 3, 4 or 5 and the verdict closes or reverses. We re-check on 1 December 2026.
- 2. Google documents a .pptx export for the consumer Gemini app. Today .pptx is named only in the Gemini Enterprise Canvas documentation, behind an administrator toggle, and support.google.com/gemini/answer/16047321 names Google Slides and PDF only. If that article names PowerPoint for the consumer app, P1 and P2 move and the slide gap narrows. We re-check on 1 December 2026.
- 3. x.ai/pricing drops or renames its Free column. Grok's A1 of 5 rests on that column, and so does the free-tier half of this page. Microsoft's listing already gates the add-in to plan names the pricing page no longer uses, so a rename is plausible. If the Free column goes, A1 falls. We re-check on publication day and again on 1 December 2026.
One trigger has already fired. The Marketplace listing opened at 10:26 UTC and states the plan gate. Under the printed rules it moves no cell, because the add-on rule scores MCP connectors rather than Office add-ins. What it changed is the wording, which is why this page never says the add-in works on Grok Free.
Worked example: one analyst, two correct answers
For a fictional analyst whose employer runs both suites, the general answer is Gemini by 5 points, the slide answer is Grok by 18, and the real constraint is a file format neither consumer product hands him.
Step one, the general question. Gemini 94, Grok 89. The firm already lives in Gmail and Docs, so Gemini also wins the part the rules do not measure: nobody has to move.
Step two, the slide question. The order flips to Grok for PowerPoint 84 against the Gemini app 66, and the firm owns Microsoft 365, so the add-in route is open in principle. Then Microsoft's listing adds its condition: the add-in "is currently available to SuperGrok, Heavy, Business and Enterprise plans" [10]. The firm's Grok accounts are on Free, so that 84 costs a paid Grok plan on top of two suites. Step three, the file, which is where the decision is made: the Gemini app's documented exports are "Export to Slides" and a PDF, no consumer Google page we opened names .pptx, and the client wants a .pptx [13].
| Option | Calculation | Twelve months, one person |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Plus, the entry plan | 12 times $4.99 | $59.88 |
| Grok Plus, the entry plan on x.ai's ladder | 12 times $8 | $96.00 |
| Google AI Pro, the tier nearest twenty | 12 times $19.99 | $239.88 |
| Grok Premium, the tier nearest twenty there | 12 times $30 | $360.00 |
| Twelve monthly client decks on a free NOXI account | 1 deck times 25 credits = 25 of 1,000 monthly credits | $0 |
The arithmetic, checked twice. Grok Plus costs $96.00 minus $59.88 = $36.12 more a year than Google AI Plus, which is 60.3% more. The tier that carries video generation costs $239.88 a year on Google against $360.00 on the xAI ladder, a difference of $120.12. One deck a month uses 25 divided by 1,000 = 2.5% of a free account's monthly credits, so twelve decks cost nothing.
Decision. Google AI Plus at $59.88 a year as the general assistant, because it wins the rules the firm uses and it is already inside the suite. The monthly client deck gets built in a dedicated deck tool on a free account and downloaded as an editable .pptx. No paid Grok plan is bought, because the one thing it adds is a PowerPoint add-in for a file a free route already produces. Review on 1 December 2026.
Build it: review the outline first, then let NOXI design
When the structure matters more than the speed, use Plan mode on NOXI's Home: approve or rewrite the outline before a slide is designed, then download an editable PowerPoint.
Step 1 · Choose Review the outline first
On noxi.ai Home, pick the mode that reviews the outline instead of generating straight away. Plan mode is the slower of the two on purpose: it stops before the design step.
Step 2 · Type the topic the way you would brief a colleague
Say who the audience is and what decision the deck supports. A prompt-started deck researches the topic on the web first, so name the period and the market you want covered.
Step 3 · Read the outline before anything is designed
NOXI shows the section plan: the slide titles and what each one will carry. This is the cheapest moment to argue with the deck, because nothing has been designed yet.
Step 4 · Rewrite the outline until the argument is right
Cut a section, merge two, reorder them, or rewrite a title so it states a finding rather than a label. Ask for the whole set of changes at once, then approve the plan.
Step 5 · Let it build, then edit by chat
Watch each slide being drawn. Ask for changes to one slide or the whole deck, click an element and say what to change, or edit text, tables and chart numbers yourself.
Step 6 · Download the PowerPoint
Download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF, with no watermark. You can also present full-screen, share a link, or invite a colleague to edit with you.
Grok vs Gemini: FAQ
- Grok vs Gemini, which is better?
- It depends on the job. On seven assistant rules checked on 2 November 2026, Google Gemini scores 94 and Grok 89. On seven presentation rules the order flips: Grok for PowerPoint 84 against the Gemini app 66. Pick Gemini for general work, Grok for PowerPoint files.
- Grok vs Gemini free: what does each free tier give?
- Both document all five capabilities our rule counts, so both score the full 20 points. Google enumerates them: image generation and editing, Deep Research, Canvas, connected apps and 15 GB of storage. x.ai marks limits instead, with "Limited" on chat, image generation and Grok Build.
- Grok or Gemini for everyday work?
- Gemini, by 5 points on the seven assistant rules checked on 2 November 2026, and by more if your work already sits in Chrome, Gmail and Docs. Google documents six surfaces against Grok's five, and publishes a context window per plan while no x.ai consumer page publishes one.
- Is Grok better than Gemini?
- Not on these assistant rules: Grok scores 89 against Gemini's 94 on 2 November 2026. Grok wins one rule outright, add-ons, because connectors with custom MCP are open to every account including Free. On the presentation rules Grok is clearly better, 84 against 66, because it edits your PowerPoint file directly.
- Grok vs Gemini for coding?
- Both ship a coding surface, and neither is scored on code quality here, because no official page documents that. x.ai's pricing page lists Grok Build with "Limited" in the Free column and a tick on Cursor Agent. Google lists Google Antigravity as its own coding surface. Checked 2 November 2026.
- Grok vs Gemini for image generation?
- Both document it on the free tier, and the rules count whether it exists, never how good it looks. Google's Free column lists "Image generation and editing". The x.ai Free column reads "Limited" on "Image generation (Imagine)", with "Make stunning AI images & videos" on the Premium column. Checked 2 November 2026.
- Which one makes a PowerPoint?
- Grok, through its add-in, which works on the file you already opened: "Real, editable slides." The consumer Gemini app documents Google Slides and PDF only, and the words PowerPoint and pptx appear nowhere on that help page. A .pptx export is named only for Gemini Enterprise, behind an administrator toggle.
- Which one is cheaper for one person?
- Gemini. Google AI Plus is printed at "$4.99/ month" against "$8" "/month" for Grok Plus, and the step that carries video generation is $19.99 on Google against $30 on the xAI ladder. Neither page printed a currency code beside the figures on 2 November 2026.
- Which one trains on my data?
- Both give you a switch rather than a promise, so both score 4 of 5. Google publishes human review and a cap: "Reviewed chats are retained for up to three years." x.ai documents an "Improve the Model" setting plus Private Chat, whose conversations are deleted within 30 days.
- What is xAI called now?
- Its own pages say SpaceXSI. The x.ai footer reads "© 2026 SpaceX Super Intelligence LLC", page titles end "| SpaceXSI", and the Privacy Policy of 27 October 2026 adds that SpaceXSI "is a separate company from X Corp." Subscriptions are sold by "X Subscription Corp."
Sources & methodology
Every price, plan feature, export route and data sentence here comes from x.ai's, Google's or Microsoft's own pages, opened logged out on 2 November 2026 between 09:13 and 10:35 UTC. Every source listed below was then opened once more before publication the same day, between 11:38 and 12:06 UTC, in a real browser for every x.ai, Microsoft and Google address. Two quotations had moved and are printed here in the words the pages now use: Grok's Private Chat retention sentence, and the Canvas help article, which is now headed "Create docs, apps & more with Canvas". No cell changed. The scores are documented capability on printed rules, not a new hands-on test. Kwame Mensah and his Accra firm are fictional; every calculation was recomputed a second time.
