Make your PowerPoint look better with AI, October 2026 — NOXI blog cover: nine redesign tools scored on what they keep, from your words and numbers to your brand

Disclosure: NOXI publishes this comparison and is one of the nine tools in it. Every capability below was read on the vendor's own help, product or pricing page on 16 October 2026, and the criteria, weights and scoring rules are printed so you can check each cell. NOXI is scored by the same rules and ties for first place rather than winning outright.

Quick answer: To make a PowerPoint look better with AI, first decide what must not change: your words, your numbers, your brand. Then pick the tool by where the file lives. Inside PowerPoint, use Designer or Copilot; inside Google Slides, Enhance this slide; for a whole-deck restyle that keeps every slide's content, import into NOXI, Gamma or MagicSlides.

Every AI redesign tool promises better-looking slides. The question that separates them is what each one changes on the way: the layout, the colours and fonts, or your actual words and numbers. Vendors document this very differently. Some state that your text stays exactly as written, some say they rewrite it to fit the layout unless you switch a mode, and some say nothing. This page scores nine tools on those documented differences and gives you a before-and-after audit you can run on any deck, with any tool, including none.

In short

  • The ruleDecide what must not change (words, numbers, brand) before you choose a tool. Redesign tools differ most on what they keep, not on how good they look.
  • ScoresSix weighted criteria, 100 points: Copilot in PowerPoint 86, NOXI 86, PowerPoint Designer 82, Gamma 76, MagicSlides 67, Plus AI 67, Canva 66, Gemini in Google Slides 56, Beautiful.ai 54.
  • Where rivals leadCopilot, Designer, Plus AI and Gemini work inside your open file; Copilot, Designer, Gamma and Plus AI show several design options for one slide.
  • Free routesDesigner in PowerPoint for the web, Canva Free, NOXI (1,000 credits a month, a deck uses about 25), plus one-time or limited free use in Gamma, MagicSlides and Copilot.
  • What AI will not fixToo many messages per slide and too many words. In our worked example the restyle fixed fonts and colours; cutting 139.4 words a slide to 35.0 was a human edit.
  • CheckedOfficial pages opened 16 October 2026. Documented capability, not a new hands-on test.

The verdict: which AI to use to make your PowerPoint look better

The right AI to make a PowerPoint look better depends on two facts about your deck: where the file has to stay, and whether the words may change. The table names the documented route for each common situation, with the condition that comes with it.

Your situationDocumented routeThe condition (from the vendor's page)

Two of these routes never leave your file: Designer and Copilot edit the open presentation, and so do Plus AI and Gemini. The import routes make a new copy, which is safer for the original and gives the AI more freedom, but you then compare the new deck with the old one before you send it. For manual design rules that apply whichever route you take, see our guide to making a presentation look professional.

What changed in 2026: dated redesign features from official pages

Three changes in 2026 reshaped how AI restyles an existing deck: Google added Enhance this slide to Gemini in Slides on 1 April, Microsoft let Copilot in PowerPoint apply one presentation's style to another from 1 July, and Gamma's help centre now documents PowerPoint and PDF imports that keep the original layouts, with a choice to keep the text exactly as it is. Each row below is stated on the vendor's own page.

WhenToolWhat the official page saysWhy it matters for a redesign
20 Nov 2025Gemini in Google SlidesBeautify this slide turns a slide's content into a visual that matches the deck's style, added to the deck as an individual slide [2].The result is a new picture slide, so its text is no longer edited as text.
1 Apr 2026Gemini in Google SlidesEnhance this slide edits an existing slide's layout, design elements or content; Beautify this slide moves to the Slide menu. Gradual rollout from 31 March 2026 [1].Google's first documented edit of an existing, editable slide; per slide, paid editions.
1 Jul 2026Copilot in PowerPointReference an existing presentation and ask Copilot to apply its style, theme or formatting; Windows, web and Mac [6].A whole-deck restyle to your own template without leaving PowerPoint.
Page undatedPowerPoint DesignerFor Copilot users, Designer is now referred to as Design Suggestions, on the Home or Design tab [3].Same feature under a new name; search for both when the button seems missing.
Page undatedGammaIn Gamma 5, PowerPoint and PDF imports keep the original layouts and you can ask Gamma to restyle them; you say in the prompt how to handle your text, and the classic generator offers Preserve (content exactly as it is) or Condense [10].The text-handling choice is now explicit at import.

One change that circulated this summer is not in the table: third-party trackers described new Copilot "Review presentation" and "Visualize slide" buttons. Microsoft's own adoption page lists built-in "Review this presentation" and "Visualize this slide" skills [5], but we found no dated Microsoft announcement for them, so they are not in the dated table.

How we scored: documented capability, printed rules, one day

Each tool was scored from its own help, product or pricing pages opened on 16 October 2026, several of them in a browser because they render by script. It is a documented-capability comparison, not a new hands-on test of how good the redesigned slides look: a point is awarded only for what the vendor states, and a page that is silent scores as silent.

The gate every tool had to pass

A redesign is only useful if you can keep editing the result, so every tool had to return an editable PowerPoint file or a native editable file. All nine pass: Designer, Copilot and Plus AI edit your own .pptx; Gemini edits your Google Slides file; Gamma, Canva, MagicSlides, Beautiful.ai and NOXI export a .pptx [12][13][18][20]. Because all nine pass, the gate carries no points.

Six criteria, 100 points, and the rule for each

Each tool scores 1 to 5 per criterion. The total is the sum of weight × score ÷ 5, so a perfect sheet is 100. The same rule was applied to every tool, and the rule is printed here.

CriterionWeightThe scoring rule
C1 Whole deck in one action155 = one documented action restyles every slide. 4 = a whole-deck action with a stated slide cap per run or per plan. 3 = the whole deck changes only through a theme or style swap applied to all pages. 1 = one slide at a time.
C2 Keeps your content205 = the vendor documents that text and numbers are kept by default, or that the feature changes only layout and design. 4 = kept when you choose a documented option or instruction. 3 = content is preserved only "in general" terms, the feature may also edit content, the import drops documented element types, or the page is silent. 2 = the default rewrites text to fit, with a keep-as-much-as-possible mode. 1 = rewrites with no keep option.
C3 Works inside your own file205 = runs inside your open PowerPoint or Google Slides file. 3 = imports a copy into the tool and gives back a new file. 1 = no PowerPoint import.
C4 Design choices per slide155 = shows several alternative designs or layouts for one slide to pick from. 3 = redesigns one slide on request, one result at a time, or swaps the style of one page. 1 = nothing per slide documented.
C5 Brand or reference match155 = a documented match to the style of a deck, PDF or image you upload. 3 = follows the deck's own theme, a chosen template, brand colours and fonts or a brand kit. 1 = nothing documented.
C6 Free access155 = a free plan includes the redesign feature, with a refreshing allowance or no AI meter stated. 3 = free use with unquantified or one-time limits, or a free offer with no plan named. 1 = paid plan only, or a trial that needs a card.

Why these weights. Searchers ask one question more than any other about AI redesign: "will it keep my content?" So C2 carries the most weight together with C3, because staying inside your own file is the other half of keeping control. Whole-deck speed, per-slide choice, brand match and free access carry 15 each. The weights are published so you can change them: a second lens later in this page shows how the order moves for someone who must stay inside PowerPoint.

How to re-run it. Open each vendor's page linked in Sources, apply the six rules, multiply, and add. If a vendor's page changes, the score changes with it; the changelog at the end records each edition.

The scorecard: Copilot and NOXI 86, Designer 82, Gamma 76

On the six published criteria, Copilot in PowerPoint and NOXI tie at 86, PowerPoint Designer follows at 82 and Gamma at 76. Copilot earns its points by working inside your file and offering per-slide choices; NOXI earns full marks on keeping your content by default and on free access; Designer is the strongest free option that never leaves your file.

Heat map of nine AI redesign tools scored 1 to 5 on six weighted criteria: whole deck in one action 15, keeps your content 20, works inside your own file 20, design choices per slide 15, brand or reference match 15, free access 15. Totals out of 100: Copilot in PowerPoint 86, NOXI 86, PowerPoint Designer 82, Gamma 76, MagicSlides 67, Plus AI 67, Canva 66, Gemini in Google Slides 56, Beautiful.ai 54.
The two leaders get there differently: Copilot by working inside your file, NOXI by keeping content by default and being free.

Beautiful.ai: 9 + 12 + 12 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 54. Ties are listed alphabetically.

Re-weighted for someone who must stay inside PowerPoint

The order depends on what you value, which is why the weights are public. If your deck must never leave PowerPoint or Google Slides, set C3 to 35, C4 to 20, C2 to 20, C1 to 10, C5 to 10 and C6 to 5. Under that lens Copilot scores 90, Designer 88, Plus AI and NOXI 78, Gamma 76, Gemini 68, MagicSlides and Canva 62, and Beautiful.ai 58. For a company that already runs on Microsoft 365, the in-file tools earn their place at the top.

The 9 AI redesign tools, ranked, with how each one earned its score

Each card below says how to run the redesign, what the vendor says it keeps, why it scored as it did, and when it is the right choice. Facts come from the pages in Sources, opened on 16 October 2026.

1. Copilot in PowerPoint 86 · tied first

How it works. Open the deck, start Edit with Copilot, and ask for a deck-wide change; Microsoft's own example prompt asks Copilot to reformat all slides to match a corporate template's colours and fonts [4]. Since the 1 July 2026 release you can choose Reference file, pick a presentation whose look you want, and ask Copilot to apply its style, theme or formatting [6]. Microsoft's adoption page describes restyling an older deck as applying your current template, normalising layouts and keeping brand consistency across every slide, "preserving your message" [5].

Score. Whole deck 5, the reference-file restyle. Keeps content 3: the message is preserved in general terms, and Edit with Copilot can also update and reorganise content [4][5]. In your file 5. Per-slide choices 5: Copilot users get Design Suggestions, Designer's new name [3]. Brand or reference 5: a reference presentation's style, plus a Brand kit for enterprise users with a Copilot licence [4]. Free 3: Microsoft lists Copilot in PowerPoint on Personal, Family and Premium with usage "higher than free", and a free Microsoft account has limited usage [7].

Best when: your organisation runs on Microsoft 365, the file must stay in PowerPoint, and you can describe exactly what may change.

2. NOXI 86 · tied first

How it works. On the home screen choose Beautify my deck, upload a PowerPoint, ODP or PDF, and describe the style you prefer. The action keeps every slide's content, slide count and order, facts and numbers, and improves layout, hierarchy, typography, spacing, colour and imagery. Match reference builds a deck in the style of a PowerPoint, PDF or image you upload; Fix formatting recreates a deck with consistent alignment, spacing and typography; Improve structure may reorder, merge, split or rewrite slides when the story itself needs work [22].

Score. Whole deck 5. Keeps content 5: preserving the content is the action's default. In your file 3: NOXI rebuilds the deck as a new NOXI deck that you download as an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or as a PDF. Per-slide choices 3: you can ask the AI to change one slide or click an element and say what to change. Brand or reference 5: Match reference. Free 5: 1,000 credits a month, a full deck uses about 25, no card and no watermark.

Our pick for: restyling a whole existing deck for free while keeping every slide's content, and leaving with an editable PowerPoint.

3. PowerPoint Designer (design suggestions) 82

How it works. Select one slide and open Designer (Design Ideas, or Design Suggestions for Copilot users) on the Home or Design tab. It arranges pictures, charts and tables into suggested layouts, turns lists, processes and timelines into SmartArt, and adds icons from the Microsoft 365 library based on the slide's key terms. Pick a suggestion; Ctrl+Z undoes it [3].

Score. Whole deck 1: the pane works on one selected slide and is greyed out when several slides are selected. Keeps content 5: it changes layout and design, not wording. In your file 5. Per-slide choices 5: a pane of alternative designs. Brand or reference 3: Microsoft says the slides in the presentation fit together visually. Free 5: design suggestions are available to everyone in PowerPoint for the web, for files in OneDrive or SharePoint [3].

Best when: you want free, slide-by-slide polish inside your own file, and your words are final.

4. Gamma 76

How it works. Click Import below the prompt box and upload a PPTX (up to 200 MB) or PDF. In Gamma 5, PowerPoint and PDF imports keep the original layouts, and your prompt can ask Gamma to restyle the deck and say how to handle your text; the classic generator offers Preserve to keep the content exactly as it is, or Condense to shorten it. Fonts that cannot be matched are substituted and named, and some charts arrive as static images [10]. On any slide, Try new layout lets you browse suggested layouts with your content and pick one [11].

Score. Whole deck 5. Keeps content 4: kept when you choose Preserve or tell the agent to keep your text exactly as written. In your file 3. Per-slide choices 5: Try new layout. Brand or reference 3: custom branding on Pro. Free 3: Free has 400 credits at sign-up and up to 10 slides per prompt, with PPTX import and export [12].

Best when: the deck will be presented or shared from the web, and you want to try layouts slide by slide after the restyle.

5. MagicSlides (PPT to better PPT) 67

How it works. Upload the presentation, choose a template and settings, preview, and download as PPTX, PDF or Google Slides. The tool page says you can choose to keep the words the same and only improve the design, and claims the enhancement works "without changing your original content" (a vendor claim) [19].

Score. Whole deck 4: one upload, but plans list up to 10 slides per presentation on Essential and 15 on Pro, with 50+ slide support on Premium [20]. Keeps content 4: a documented keep-the-words option. In your file 3. Per-slide choices 1: none documented for the enhancer. Brand or reference 5: "Use any PowerPoint as template" is listed on paid plans. Free 3: the tool page offers to enhance your PPT free, and the pricing page shows paid plans from $6.67 a month billed annually [19][20].

Best when: you have a short deck and a template you like, and want a quick restyled .pptx.

6. Plus AI (Remix) 67

How it works. In PowerPoint or Google Slides, launch Plus AI, choose Remix Current Slide and an output layout, or Remix up to 30 slides at once without picking layouts. By default your text is rewritten, shortened or expanded, to fit the layout; Strict mode preserves it as much as possible, even if it no longer fills the slide [8].

Score. Whole deck 4: the 30-slide cap per run. Keeps content 2: rewrite by default, Strict as the keep mode. In your file 5. Per-slide choices 5: you pick the output layout. Brand or reference 3: templates, and custom branding on Team. Free 1: every plan starts with a 7-day trial that needs a credit card; Basic is $10 a user a month billed annually [9].

Best when: you work in Google Slides or PowerPoint all day and want layout options per slide without leaving the file.

7. Canva (PowerPoint import, Styles) 66

How it works. Import a .pptx of up to 300 MB and 300 slides in a desktop browser (beta). Charts, SmartArt, 3D objects and WordArt are ignored on import, and fonts are matched where possible [13]. Then open Styles from the page's Edit panel, pick a colour palette or font set, and use Apply to all pages; Shuffle shows variations [14].

Score. Whole deck 3: a style swap across pages. Keeps content 3: styles do not touch wording, but the import drops documented element types. In your file 3. Per-slide choices 3: a style applied to one page. Brand or reference 3: Free includes one Brand Kit with three colours [15]. Free 5: the import and Styles pages name no plan requirement, and Canva Free costs US$0.

Best when: your deck has few charts or diagrams and you will keep designing by hand in Canva.

8. Gemini in Google Slides (Enhance this slide) 56

How it works. Select a slide and click Enhance this slide to change its layout, design elements or content. Beautify this slide, which turns a slide into a visual inserted as a new slide, now sits in the Slide menu [1][2].

Score. Whole deck 1. Keeps content 3: the feature may also edit content. In your file 5. Per-slide choices 3. Brand or reference 3: Beautify matches the deck's look and feel. Free 1: the editions listed are Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, AI add-ons, and Google AI Pro and Ultra [1].

Best when: your team already pays for a listed Workspace edition and the deck lives in Google Slides. Our guide to AI in Google Slides covers the other Slides options.

9. Beautiful.ai (Import From PPT, themes) 54

How it works. In a presentation, click Add Slide, then Import From PPT, choose the slides to bring in, and pick your theme font or the file's own font [16]. The product updates page says PowerPoint users can build a theme from a file's fonts and colours, and the Style tab switches the presentation theme [17].

Score. Whole deck 3: a theme switch. Keeps content 3: the import article is silent on content. In your file 3. Per-slide choices 3: the Ideas tab offers other Smart Slide layouts, but the import article does not say imported slides become Smart Slides, so the import route is scored as one change at a time. Brand or reference 3: a theme from your PowerPoint's fonts and colours. Free 1: the 14-day Pro trial needs a credit card [18].

Best when: you are moving a team to Beautiful.ai's Smart Slides and want your old theme to come with you. Our October ranking of AI presentation tools scores it on generation instead.

Keeps vs rewrites: what each tool documents about your words

AI redesign tools fall into four groups on the question that matters most: three keep your text by default, two keep it only when you choose a mode, two say they may change content, and two either drop some element types on import or say nothing. Knowing the group tells you how carefully you must compare the result with the original.

Four groups of AI redesign tools by what they document about your text. Keeps by default: NOXI Beautify my deck, PowerPoint Designer which changes layout only, and MagicSlides by vendor claim. Keeps if you choose: Gamma Preserve and Plus AI Strict mode. May change content: Copilot Edit with Copilot and Gemini Enhance this slide. Drops elements or silent: Canva import ignores charts and SmartArt, Beautiful.ai import does not say.
The group a tool sits in decides how much checking the redesigned deck needs before you send it.
ToolYour textCharts and diagramsThe file you end with
NOXIKept by default with slide count, order, facts and numbers (Beautify my deck)Redrawn in the new design with the same dataA new deck, downloaded as .pptx or PDF; your original is untouched

The practical rule follows from the table: whichever group your tool is in, run the numbers check from the audit below before the deck goes out. "Kept by default" lowers the risk; it does not replace the check. Our comparison of Gamma and Canva goes deeper on how those two handle imported files.

Designer not showing in PowerPoint? Six documented reasons

PowerPoint Designer is usually missing for one of six reasons Microsoft documents: the desktop app is not on a Microsoft 365 subscription, the file in PowerPoint for the web is not stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, more than one slide is selected, you are on a phone, your administrator has turned the feature off, or you are a Copilot user and it is now called Design Suggestions [3].

  1. Desktop without a subscription. On the desktop, design suggestions are a Microsoft 365 subscriber feature.
  2. Web file not in the cloud. In PowerPoint for the web they are available to everyone, but the file must be in OneDrive or SharePoint.
  3. Several slides selected. The pane is greyed out when more than one slide is selected; click a single slide.
  4. Phone. Designer works on iPad and Android tablets, not on iPhone or Android phones.
  5. Turned off by your organisation. Administrators can disable it; ask your IT team.
  6. New name. Copilot users find it as Design Suggestions on the Home or Design tab.

If Designer is available but its ideas do not fit, the problem is often the slide itself: Designer has more to work with when a slide carries one picture, chart or short list than when it carries a page of text.

Match your brand or a reference deck: three documented levels

AI redesign tools match a brand at three documented levels: a theme or palette applied to every page, a brand kit or template the tool follows, or the full style of a deck, PDF or image you upload. Only the third reproduces a look you already have without rebuilding it as a theme first.

LevelWhat it carries overDocumented in
1. Theme or paletteColours and fonts across all pagesCanva Styles (Apply to all pages), Beautiful.ai themes, Google Slides themes
2. Brand kit or templateSaved colours, fonts, logos, sometimes layoutsCopilot Brand kit (enterprise, Copilot licence), Plus AI custom branding (Team), Gamma custom branding (Pro), Canva Brand Kit
3. Reference styleLayouts, typography, colours and visual rhythm of a file you uploadCopilot reference file (a PowerPoint), MagicSlides "any PowerPoint as template", NOXI Match reference (PowerPoint, PDF, PNG or JPG)

A reference only works as well as the reference itself. Give the AI the cleanest example of your house style: a recent deck with a cover, an agenda, a chart slide and a closing slide, not a 90-slide master with every legacy layout. Our guide to AI presentations in your own template covers how to prepare one.

Free routes: what each free option includes

Three tools document a free route to a redesign with no card: PowerPoint Designer in PowerPoint for the web, Canva Free and NOXI. Gamma, MagicSlides and Copilot offer one-time or unquantified free use; Plus AI and Beautiful.ai start with trials that need a card, and Gemini's redesign sits on paid editions.

The before/after audit: six checks to run on any deck

A before/after audit measures six things on the original deck, sets a target for each, and checks the redesigned deck against the same rule: font families, off-palette colours, words per content slide, slides with more than one message, the lowest text contrast, and numbers changed by the redesign. It works with any tool and shows exactly what the AI fixed and what is still yours to fix.

CheckHow to measure itTargetPass rule
1. Font familiesCount the typefaces in use (Replace Fonts lists them in PowerPoint)2 or fewerPass if 2 or fewer
2. Off-palette coloursCount fills and text colours that are not in the theme or brand palette0Pass if 0
3. Words per content slideTotal words on content slides ÷ number of content slides40 or fewerPass if the average is 40 or fewer
4. Two-message slidesCount slides whose title cannot state one finding0Pass if 0; split the rest
5. Lowest text contrastCheck the palest text against its background4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large textWCAG 2.2 AA, success criterion 1.4.3 [21]
6. Numbers changedList every figure in the original; tick each one in the new deck0 changedPass only if every figure matches

Large text, in WCAG's definition, is at least 18 point, or 14 point bold, and a ratio is not rounded: 4.499:1 fails the 4.5:1 rule [21]. For orientation, mid-grey #999999 on white is 2.85:1 and fails; #767676 is 4.54:1 and passes; #595959 is 7.0:1. The 40-word target is our working rule for slides that are presented, not read; reading decks sent by email can carry more.

Worked example: a 32-slide quarterly deck, before and after

Example Halden Insurance (fictional) restyles its Q3 2026 results deck. Six people built the 32-slide deck: a cover, an agenda, two section dividers and 28 content slides. Before: 5 font families, 11 off-palette colours, 3,904 words on 28 content slides, so 3,904 ÷ 28 = 139.4 words a slide; 9 slides carrying two messages; lowest contrast 2.85:1 (grey #999999 footnotes on white); 64 figures in total. Step 1, AI restyle of the whole deck with content kept: fonts 5 → 2, off-palette colours 11 → 0, contrast raised to 7.0:1 (#595959), still 32 slides and 3,904 words, because a content-keeping redesign keeps every word. Step 2, human edit: the 9 two-message slides split into two each, so 28 + 9 = 37 content slides and 41 slides in all; words cut to 1,295, so 1,295 ÷ 37 = 35.0 words a slide. That removed 3,904 − 1,295 = 2,609 words, or 2,609 ÷ 3,904 = 66.8% of the text. Step 3, numbers check: all 64 figures matched against the original. Result: all six checks pass.
Before and after audit of the fictional Halden Insurance deck. Font families fell from 5 to 2 and off-palette colours from 11 to 0 in the AI restyle; lowest text contrast rose from 2.85 to 7.0 to 1. Words per content slide fell from 139.4 to 35.0 and two-message slides from 9 to 0 only after a human edit. All 64 figures matched the original.
The AI pass fixed the look; the human edit fixed the load. Both were needed for all six checks to pass.

The lesson of the example is the split between steps 1 and 2. The restyle fixed everything that is design: typefaces, colours, contrast and layout. Cutting 139.4 words a slide to 35.0 was an editorial decision about what the audience needs, and a tool built to keep your content will not make it for you. If you want the AI to make that decision too, use a restructuring action and then check the result line by line.

What AI won't fix: four problems a redesign leaves behind

An AI redesign improves how slides look; it leaves four problems untouched unless you ask for rewriting: slides that carry two messages, titles that name a topic instead of stating a finding, the wrong chart for the comparison, and too many words. These are the problems audiences notice first.

  • Two messages on one slide. A layout engine can only arrange what is there. Split the slide so each title states one point.
  • Topic titles. "Claims" tells the audience nothing; "Claims ratio fell to 61% in Q3" tells them the point. Rewrite titles before the redesign so the AI designs around the finding.
  • The wrong chart. A pie chart of eight categories stays hard to read in any colour scheme. Our guide on how to present data matches chart types to comparisons.
  • Text walls. A content-keeping redesign keeps every word by design. Cut first, or choose a tool and mode that is allowed to rewrite, then check every sentence it changed.

Check before you send: a five-point pass/fail list

Before a redesigned deck leaves your hands, check five things against the original: the numbers, the logos and names, the contrast, the alt text on pictures and charts, and how the file opens on someone else's computer. Each takes minutes and catches the errors that cost credibility.

  1. Every figure matches the original.Pass: all figures ticked. Fail: any figure differs or is missing.
  2. Logos, client names and product names are correct and current.Pass: each one checked. Fail: an old logo or a misspelled name.
  3. Body text meets 4.5:1 contrast, large text 3:1.Pass: the palest text measured. Fail: any text below the ratio.
  4. Pictures and charts that carry meaning have alt text.Pass: each one describes what it shows. Fail: blank or "image1".
  5. The .pptx opens correctly on a second computer.Pass: fonts, layout and images as intended. Fail: substituted fonts or shifted text.

Our accessibility checklist for AI presentations covers reading order, alt text and the exported file in full.

Key terms used in this comparison

Four terms decide how redesign tools are compared, and each is defined so the tables above read the same way for everyone.

Definition What is a slide redesign (restyle)? A slide redesign changes how existing slides look, their layout, typography, colour, spacing and imagery, while the deck's content is meant to stay. It differs from restructuring, which may reorder, merge, split or rewrite slides, and from generation, which builds a new deck from a prompt or file.
Definition What are design suggestions in PowerPoint? Design suggestions, formerly Designer or Design Ideas, are layouts PowerPoint proposes for the selected slide: arranged pictures, charts and tables, SmartArt from lists, and icons from key terms. Copilot users see the feature as Design Suggestions on the Home or Design tab.
Definition What is a reference style? A reference style is the look of an existing file, a deck, PDF or image, that an AI tool reproduces in a new or restyled deck: its layouts, typography, colours and visual rhythm. It differs from a theme, which carries only colours and fonts.
Definition What is a contrast ratio? A contrast ratio compares the relative luminance of text and its background, from 1:1 (no contrast) to 21:1 (black on white). WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 asks for at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, 18 point or 14 point bold.

Three prompts to restyle a deck in NOXI

These three prompts cover the jobs in this comparison: a content-keeping restyle, a restyle to your house style, and a cleanup of formatting only. Replace the parts in brackets.

Prompt 1 · Beautify my deck, keep every word

Beautify the attached [Q3-results.pptx]. Keep every slide's text, every number and the slide order exactly as they are. Use [two typefaces: a serif for titles, a sans-serif for body], a palette of [navy #1F3A5F, white and one accent], at least 4.5:1 contrast for all text, and one clear focal point per slide.

Prompt 2 · Match our house style

Use the attached [brand-reference.pdf] as the visual reference: match its colours, typography, layouts and visual rhythm. Build a [12]-slide [Q3 results] deck from this content, keeping every figure as written: [paste the slide titles, bullet points and numbers]. Write each title as a full sentence that states the slide's finding.

Prompt 3 · Fix formatting only

Fix the formatting of the attached [deck.pptx]: align every text box to a common grid, use the same title size and position on every content slide, remove text that overflows its box, and keep all wording and numbers unchanged.

Build it in NOXI: six steps

Each step uses a capability described above; a full deck uses about 25 of the 1,000 monthly credits.

Step 1 — Start free

Open noxi.ai and create a free account; no card is needed, and each account gets a monthly allowance of 1,000 credits.

Step 2 — Choose Beautify my deck

On the home screen choose Beautify my deck, or Fix formatting under More for a cleanup only, and upload your PowerPoint, ODP or PDF.

Step 3 — Describe the style or upload a reference

Describe the style you prefer in a sentence. To follow a house style instead, choose Match reference, upload a PowerPoint, PDF or image as the style and paste your slide content into the brief, as in prompt 2.

Step 4 — Watch the deck being rebuilt

NOXI keeps every slide's content, slide count and order, facts and numbers, and improves layout, hierarchy, typography, spacing, colour and imagery; you watch each slide being built.

Step 5 — Edit by chat, by click or by hand

Ask the AI to change one slide or the whole deck in plain English or Arabic, click any element and say what to change, or edit text directly on the slide.

Step 6 — Run the audit and export

Run the six-check audit against your original, then download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with embedded fonts, or a PDF, free and with no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI make my PowerPoint look better?
Yes. AI tools can restyle layouts, fonts, colours and spacing on an existing deck, either inside PowerPoint (Designer, Copilot, Plus AI) or by importing a copy (NOXI, Gamma, MagicSlides, Canva, Beautiful.ai). They differ most on what they keep: some document that your text stays as written, others rewrite it to fit unless you choose a keep mode.
What is the best free AI to improve a PowerPoint?
It depends on the job. For free slide-by-slide polish inside your own file, PowerPoint Designer in PowerPoint for the web is available to everyone for files in OneDrive or SharePoint. For a free whole-deck restyle that keeps every slide's content, NOXI gives 1,000 credits a month, and a deck uses about 25. Canva Free restyles colours and fonts across pages.
Does PowerPoint have an AI that redesigns slides?
Yes, two. Designer, called Design Suggestions for Copilot users, proposes layouts for one selected slide. Copilot in PowerPoint can reformat all slides to match a template and, since the 1 July 2026 release, apply the style, theme or formatting of another presentation you reference. Copilot usage is higher on paid Microsoft 365 plans than on a free account.
Why is Designer not showing in PowerPoint?
Microsoft documents six reasons: the desktop app lacks a Microsoft 365 subscription, a web file is not stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, more than one slide is selected, you are on a phone rather than a tablet, your administrator turned it off, or you use Copilot and it is now named Design Suggestions on the Home or Design tab.
How do I beautify slides in Google Slides with Gemini?
Select a slide and click Enhance this slide to change its layout, design elements or content; this arrived on 1 April 2026. Beautify this slide, which turns a slide into a visual added as a new slide, is now in the Slide menu. Both need a listed paid edition, such as Business Standard, Enterprise Standard or Google AI Pro.
Will AI change my text when it redesigns my slides?
Some tools will. Plus AI's Remix rewrites text to fit by default, and Gemini's Enhance this slide may change content. Gamma keeps text when you choose Preserve; NOXI's Beautify my deck and Designer keep it by default. Whatever the tool, compare every figure in the new deck with the original before you send it.
Can I make my presentation match my company template with AI?
Yes. Copilot in PowerPoint can apply the style of a presentation you reference, and enterprise users can connect a Brand kit. NOXI's Match reference designs the deck in the style of a PowerPoint, PDF or image you upload. MagicSlides lists "Use any PowerPoint as template" on paid plans. Canva, Gamma, Plus AI and Beautiful.ai apply themes or brand colours and fonts.
Can I redesign a PowerPoint without losing my charts?
Yes, if you choose the route carefully. Designer and Copilot work inside your file, so the charts stay in it. Canva's import ignores charts, SmartArt, 3D objects and WordArt, and Gamma says some charts arrive as static images. Before you commit, run one chart-heavy slide through the tool and check that every value survived.
How do I make an old PowerPoint look modern?
Cut to two typefaces, a small palette with one accent colour, and one message per slide with a title that states it; then apply a current template or reference style to every slide. AI tools do the restyle quickly, but trimming long text to about 40 words a slide is still an editorial decision you make yourself.
Is redesigning a deck with AI safe for confidential files?
Check each vendor's privacy terms and your company's rules before uploading. In-file tools such as Designer, Copilot and Gemini work on the file where it already lives, while import tools upload a copy to their own service. NOXI states that presentations, prompts and uploaded files are not used to train AI models, and data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
