Canva to PowerPoint — NOXI blog cover: five ways to convert a Canva presentation to PowerPoint, scored from official pages, with a fonts fix and a cleanup checklist

Disclosure: NOXI publishes this guide and is one of the five conversion methods it scores. Every fact about the other methods was read on Canva's, Google's, Microsoft's and iLovePDF's own help, product or news pages on 20 October 2026, and the criteria, weights and scoring rules are published so you can check each cell. NOXI is scored by the same rules and does not come first.

Quick answer: To convert Canva to PowerPoint, open the presentation in Canva, choose Share > Download, set the file type to PPTX (Microsoft PowerPoint) and download. Then run three checks on another computer: fonts, text boxes, and animations or video, which Canva says PowerPoint does not yet support. Send a PDF instead when nobody needs to edit.

Canva hands you a PowerPoint file in one click. What it cannot do is install your fonts on your client's laptop, and that is where most "it looks different" complaints start. Below: five routes scored on six published criteria, the font rules behind the substitutions, a cleanup checklist and a worked example.

In short

  • Top scoreCanva's own Share > Download > PPTX scores 94 of 100: the same layout, one export, no plan restriction documented, and the file never leaves Canva and your device.
  • What changesCanva says a PPTX may look different in PowerPoint, you may need to install the fonts you used, and animations and embedded videos are not yet supported.
  • The ruleDownload PPTX for editing and PDF for viewing, and open the PPTX on a computer without your Canva fonts before you send it.
  • FontsFonts travel only when they are installed on the recipient's computer or embedded in the file; PowerPoint embeds fonts only in the Windows and Mac desktop apps.
  • Our pickNOXI Fix formatting (74, joint third) is our pick when the text must stay editable and the fonts must survive on someone else's computer.
  • CheckedVendors' own pages, opened 20 October 2026. Documented capability, not a new hands-on test.

The verdict: which Canva to PowerPoint method for which job

The right way to convert a Canva presentation to PowerPoint depends on whether anyone will edit the file and whose computer opens it. For most decks, Canva's own PPTX download is the answer; the other four routes solve specific problems it leaves open, such as fonts that will not travel or a recipient who works in Google Slides.

Your jobMethod that fitsThe condition (from the vendor's page)
Someone edits it in PowerPointCanva: Share > Download > PPTXPresentations only; the file may look different, and you may need to install the fonts you used [1].
Nobody edits; it must look as designedPNG per slide, inserted as full-slide picturesThe text becomes part of each picture, so it looks the same everywhere and cannot be edited as text [1][17].
The recipient works in Google SlidesCanva PPTX opened in Google SlidesPresentations up to 100 MB convert; embedded charts and videos become images [7][8].
Editable text, fonts that travelNOXI Fix formatting on the exported PPTXRecreates the deck with consistent alignment, spacing and typography; editable .pptx with embedded fonts; files up to 200 MB [23].
You only have the PDFA PDF-to-PowerPoint converter (iLovePDF)Editable text for PDFs with selectable text; free tier 1 file of up to 15 MB per task [20][21].
A read-only copy for a board or a printerCanva PDF Standard or PDF Print96 dpi for screens; 300 dpi with bleed and crop marks for print [1].

The quotable rule: download PPTX from Canva for editing, a PDF for viewing, and never send the PPTX until you have opened it on a computer that does not have your Canva fonts. Your own laptop hides the problem, because it has the fonts.

Decision figure with five starting points for converting a Canva presentation to PowerPoint. If someone will edit it in PowerPoint: Canva's PPTX download, then a fonts check. If nobody edits and it must look as designed: PNG slides inserted as full-slide pictures. If the recipient works in Google Slides: open the PPTX in Slides, up to 100 MB. If the text must stay editable and the fonts must travel: NOXI Fix formatting, which downloads as an editable PowerPoint with embedded fonts. If you only have a PDF: a PDF-to-PowerPoint converter. Every route ends with the cleanup checklist.
Who edits the file and whose computer opens it decide the method; every route ends with the same cleanup.

What Canva says changes when you download a presentation as PowerPoint

Canva's Help Centre says three things change when a design is downloaded as PPTX: the file may look different in PowerPoint, you may need to make edits or install the fonts you used in Canva, and animations and embedded videos are not yet supported in PowerPoint [1]. It also limits PPTX to presentations; other design types cannot be downloaded as PPTX.

What Canva documentsWhat it means for your fileWhat to do
PPTX is for presentations only [1]A poster, document or social post has no PPTX option.Build or copy the content into a Canva presentation first.
The file "may look different" [1]Layouts can shift in PowerPoint.Review every slide in PowerPoint before you send it.
Install the fonts you used [1]On a computer without them, PowerPoint substitutes other fonts.Install them, embed them, or replace them (see the fonts section).
Animations and embedded videos "not yet supported" [1]Animated and video elements may not play as expected.Re-add them in PowerPoint after the download.
Premium elements need a licence [2]On Canva Free, a design with Pro content asks you to pay, or you download a watermarked draft.Swap Pro elements for free ones, or buy the licence, before downloading.

Canva's download page names bulk downloads, compressed files, transparent backgrounds, SVG and CMYK PDF among the options limited to paid plans, and adds that many others are limited too [2]. Neither that page nor Canva's file-type page puts a plan restriction on PPTX [1][2]; what Canva does document for free accounts is that Pro content inside a design triggers a payment or a watermarked draft [2]. Our free-plan score for PPTX rests on that, so check the Download panel on your own account if you are on Canva Free.

Canva does not document what happens to charts, grouped shapes or effects in the PPTX. Third-party tutorials report that some arrive as pictures; treat that as something to check, not as documented behaviour.

Definition What is a PPTX export? A PPTX export is a download of a presentation in PowerPoint's .pptx file format, so it opens and can be edited in Microsoft PowerPoint. In Canva it is the Microsoft PowerPoint file type in Share > Download, available for presentations only; the result is a new file, not a link to the Canva design, so later changes in Canva do not reach it.

How we scored: six criteria, one rule each, published weights

Each method is scored 1 to 5 on six criteria, and the weighted total is the sum of weight × score ÷ 5, so a perfect sheet is 100. A score is given only for what the vendor documents on its own pages, opened on 20 October 2026; this is a documented-capability comparison, not a new hands-on test of conversion quality.

CriterionWeightWhat a 5 meansWhat a 3 and a 1 mean
C1 Keeps the Canva design25The slides keep the layout as designed, allowing the shifts the vendor itself warns about.3: the layout is converted or rebuilt by another program. 1: the layout is lost.
C2 Text editable in PowerPoint20Text arrives as text you can edit.3: editable only where the source text is selectable, or partly. 1: text is part of a picture.
C3 Text looks the same on another computer15The fonts travel inside the file, or the text is part of a picture.3: depends on the fonts installed on the computer that opens it. 1: documented substitution with no fix.
C4 Free for a 20-slide deck15Free on the free plan, with no published per-file cap or a cap of at least 100 MB.3: free under a lower cap, part of the job on a paid plan, or a trial. 1: paid only.
C5 Steps for a 20-slide deck10One export.3: an export plus one upload, import or conversion. 1: slide by slide.
C6 Your files stay with you15Only Canva and your own device handle the file.3: also your own cloud account. 1: uploaded to another third-party service.

Why the C4 line sits at 100 MB. C4 scores only the free tier's published per-file cap, for every method alike; allowances that cover a 20-slide job, such as NOXI's 1,000 monthly credits against about 25 a deck, are not scored. The line is Google Slides' own conversion limit, well above a photo-heavy 20-slide deck (38 MB in the worked example). If C4 instead gave 3 to any cap or allowance at all, Google Slides and NOXI would both fall from 74 to 68 and the order of all five methods would not change.

Why these weights. Searchers ask "will it look the same", "why can't I edit this" and "why are my fonts wrong", so design, editable text and fonts carry 60 points. Price and privacy carry 15 each, because either can rule a method out. Steps carry 10: a second upload costs minutes, not quality.

How to re-run it. Open each source listed at the end, apply the rule column to what the page says today, and multiply; if a vendor changes a limit, only that cell moves. Every method assumes the result is opened in PowerPoint, so the PowerPoint licence is not scored.

The scorecard: Canva's own PPTX download scores 94

On the six published criteria, Canva's own PPTX download scores 94 of 100, because it keeps the layout, takes one export, carries no documented plan restriction and never leaves Canva and your device. Picture slides score 80, Google Slides and NOXI Fix formatting tie at 74 for different reasons, and a PDF-to-PowerPoint converter scores 54.

How each score was reached

  • Canva PPTX download (94). The layout as designed, allowing the differences Canva warns about (C1: 5); the format exists so the file can be edited in PowerPoint, and Canva's advice is to "make edits" there (C2: 5) [1]; fonts depend on what is installed, per Canva's own advice to install them (C3: 3) [1]; no plan restriction on PPTX in Canva's download pages (C4: 5) [1][2]; one download (C5: 5); handled by Canva and your device (C6: 5).
  • PNG picture slides (80). Each slide is an exact picture of the design (C1: 5) and its text is part of the picture (C2: 1, C3: 5); PNG is a free download (C4: 5) [1][2]; a download plus an insert in PowerPoint, such as a photo album (C5: 3) [17]; Canva and your device (C6: 5).
  • Via Google Slides (74). The PPTX is converted to Google's format, with embedded charts and videos turned into images and SmartArt into drawings, then downloaded back (C1: 3) [8][9]; text stays editable (C2: 5); fonts depend on what the app and computer have (C3: 3); free up to 100 MB (C4: 5) [7]; download, upload and convert (C5: 3); in your own Drive (C6: 3).
  • NOXI Fix formatting (74). It rebuilds the layout on a consistent grid rather than keeping Canva's as is (C1: 3); real text boxes and embedded fonts in the .pptx (C2, C3: 5); free with a monthly allowance of 1,000 credits, about 25 per deck, and files up to 200 MB (C4: 5); a Canva download plus an upload (C5: 3); uploaded to another service (C6: 1) [23].
  • PDF converter, iLovePDF (54). The PDF is rebuilt as slides by the converter (C1: 3); editable text for PDFs with selectable text, OCR for scanned pages on a paid plan (C2: 3) [20][21]; fonts depend on the computer (C3: 3); free tier 1 file of up to 15 MB per task (C4: 3) [21]; a PDF download plus a conversion (C5: 3); uploaded to iLovePDF, which deletes processed files within two hours (C6: 1) [22].

Our pick for fonts that travel. NOXI is our pick when the text must stay editable and the fonts must survive on someone else's computer: it is the only method that scores 5 on both C2 and C3. For everything else, Canva's own download is the right first move.

Method 1: download a Canva presentation as PowerPoint (PPTX)

To download a Canva presentation as PowerPoint, open it in the editor, choose Share, then Download, pick PPTX (Microsoft PowerPoint) as the file type, choose All pages or a custom selection, and select Download [1][2]. Canva lists the same steps under its Desktop and Mobile tabs, and Canva Design School's one-minute lesson on saving a presentation as PowerPoint was last updated on 8 October 2026 [2][4].

Export Canva to PowerPoint on a computer or phone

  1. Open the presentation in Canva. If the design is not a presentation, the PPTX option will not appear [1].
  2. Click Share (top right), then Download [2].
  3. Under File type, choose PPTX (Microsoft PowerPoint) [1].
  4. For a multi-page design, choose All, This Page or Custom to pick slides [2].
  5. Select Download. If the design contains Pro content and you are on Canva Free, Canva asks you to buy a licence or offers a watermarked draft [2].
  6. Open the file in PowerPoint on a computer that does not have your Canva fonts, and run the cleanup checklist further down this page.

Edit a Canva presentation in PowerPoint

Yes, you can edit a Canva presentation in PowerPoint: the PPTX is a normal PowerPoint file, and Canva's own advice is to make edits there where the slides look different [1]. The file is a copy, so edits in PowerPoint do not flow back to Canva, and edits in Canva need a new download. Decide which copy is the master.

Canva to PPTX not working: five causes

  • No PPTX option. The design is not a presentation; PPTX is for presentations only [1].
  • A payment prompt or a watermark. The design uses Pro content on a free account [2].
  • Text in the wrong font. The fonts are not installed on the computer opening the file [1].
  • Animations or video do nothing. Canva says they are not yet supported in PowerPoint [1].
  • The file will not open in Google Slides. It is over Google's 100 MB conversion limit [7]; compress the pictures in PowerPoint first [19].

Method 2: PNG picture slides, when nobody needs to edit

Picture slides keep a Canva design exactly as designed in PowerPoint: download every page as PNG, then insert each image as a full-slide picture, for example with PowerPoint's photo album [1][17]. The text is part of each picture, so it looks the same on every computer and cannot be edited as text.

  1. In Canva, choose Share > Download, set the file type to PNG, adjust the size and quality, select All pages, and download [1][2].
  2. In PowerPoint, go to Insert, click the arrow under Photo Album, and choose New Photo Album [17].
  3. Under Insert picture from, choose File/Disk, select all the PNGs, put them in slide order with the arrow buttons, and click Create [17].
  4. Pick the picture layout under Album Layout that fills the slide, and set Design > Slide Size to match the design, usually Widescreen (16:9) [17][18].

Picture slides suit a conference that requires a .pptx you will present yourself, or a deck archived for the record. Add each slide's text to its alt text, because a screen reader cannot read a picture of text.

Method 3: Canva to Google Slides, and back to PowerPoint

To convert Canva to Google Slides, download the presentation as PPTX, upload it to Google Drive and open it in Google Slides, which converts presentations of up to 100 MB [7][8]. To return a PowerPoint file, choose File > Download > PowerPoint (.pptx) in Slides [9]. Use this route when the recipient works in Google Slides.

  1. Download the presentation from Canva as PPTX (Method 1) [1].
  2. Upload it to Google Drive and double-click it: Drive opens it in Google Slides. Slides converts .pptx, .pptm, .pps, .ppsx, .pot, .potx and .odp files, among others [8].
  3. Check every slide: Google says embedded charts and videos in PowerPoint files are converted to images, and SmartArt to Google Drawings [8].
  4. If a PowerPoint file is needed again, choose File > Download > PowerPoint (.pptx) [9].

To edit the PPTX in Drive without converting it, Google's Office Compatibility Mode opens .pptx files in a Chrome browser on a computer and can save them back to Office format [8]. For when to keep a deck in Slides and when to move it to PowerPoint at all, see our comparison of Google Slides vs PowerPoint.

Method 4: make an exported Canva deck consistent with AI (NOXI Fix formatting)

An AI rebuild takes the PPTX Canva gave you and recreates it as a clean PowerPoint: in NOXI you upload the exported .pptx to Fix formatting, which recreates the deck with consistent alignment, spacing and typography, and you download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF [23]. The layout is rebuilt on a consistent grid rather than kept exactly as designed in Canva.

NOXI is our pick when the text must stay editable and the fonts must survive on someone else's computer, for example when a client edits on a laptop that will never have your Canva fonts, or when a font's licence will not let PowerPoint embed it. The six steps are further down this page.

When the deck should also look better than the Canva original, Beautify my deck is a separate flow: it keeps every slide's content, count and order and improves layout, typography, spacing, colour and imagery. For a scored comparison of AI tools that restyle an existing deck, see AI to make your PowerPoint look better; to rebuild the content in a client's own template instead, see AI presentations in your own template.

Method 5: a free Canva to PowerPoint converter via PDF

A PDF-to-PowerPoint converter turns a Canva PDF download into slides: download the presentation as PDF Standard from Canva, upload it to a converter such as iLovePDF's PDF to PowerPoint, and download the result. iLovePDF documents editable text for PDFs with selectable text, and its free tier converts 1 file of up to 15 MB per task [20][21].

  1. In Canva, choose Share > Download and PDF Standard (96 dpi) [1].
  2. Check the file size: iLovePDF's free tier takes up to 15 MB per task for PDF to PowerPoint; Premium takes up to 4 GB [21].
  3. Upload the PDF to the converter and choose No OCR; OCR for scanned pages with non-selectable text is a Premium option [20].
  4. Download the PowerPoint file and run the cleanup checklist.

Use this route only when the PDF is all you have, because Method 1 already gives you a PPTX from the source. Before uploading a client or board deck, check who processes the file and for how long: iLovePDF says processed files are deleted automatically within two hours [22]. Our checklist for confidential material in AI presentation tools lists the questions to ask any upload service, and they apply to file converters as much as to AI tools.

Definition What is the difference between PDF Standard and PDF Print in Canva? PDF Standard is Canva's screen PDF, at 96 dpi, for illustrations, text and graphics, and the only PDF type with password protection. PDF Print is the print PDF, at 300 dpi, with optional bleed, crop marks and an RGB or CMYK colour profile. Send PDF Standard for viewing and PDF Print to a printer.

Canva to PowerPoint formatting issues: fonts, flattened elements and layout shifts

Most Canva to PowerPoint formatting issues have three causes: fonts that are missing on the computer opening the file, elements that arrive as pictures instead of shapes and text, and layouts that shift when PowerPoint draws the slide. Fonts do the most visible damage, because a substituted font moves line breaks on every slide that uses it.

Canva to PowerPoint fonts: why they change and how to keep them

Fonts change because a PPTX normally stores the font's name, not the font itself: when the computer opening the file does not have that font, PowerPoint substitutes another, and Canva tells you to install the fonts you used [1]. A font travels only if it is embedded, and its creator decides whether it can be. Our step-by-step guide to embedding fonts in PowerPoint covers the licence levels, Mac versions and the pre-send test in full.

  • Embeddability. Font creators set one of four levels: Non-embeddable, Preview/Print, Editable or Installable, and not all TrueType fonts can be embedded [10]. A font marked Restricted in the Windows Fonts control panel cannot be embedded, and Microsoft's only fix is to use another font [11].
  • Format. Microsoft recommends OpenType (.otf) or TrueType (.ttf) fonts; PostScript Type 1 and Apple Advanced Typography fonts cannot be embedded [10][11].
  • Where embedding works. You can embed fonts only in the Windows and Mac desktop apps, and a file with embedded fonts can be viewed on any device or platform Office supports [12].
  • The two choices. Embed only the characters used, which keeps the file smaller but limits editing, or embed all characters, which Microsoft labels best for editing by other people [10][19].
  • Office cloud fonts. Fonts that come with Office are cloud fonts available on every device Office supports, so they never need embedding [12].

The fix, in order. Install every font the Canva design uses on your own computer, if its licence lets you. Open the PPTX, then on Windows choose File > Options > Save and tick Embed fonts in the file with Embed all characters; on a Mac the option is under PowerPoint > Preferences > Save [10][11]. For any font that cannot be embedded, use Home > Replace > Replace Fonts to swap it for an Office font across the deck [13]. If installing or embedding is not possible at all, rebuild the deck with fonts that travel (Method 4).

Definition What is font substitution? Font substitution is what PowerPoint does when a presentation names a font that is not installed on the computer and not embedded in the file: it draws the text in another available font. Widths and heights differ between fonts, so substituted text can wrap onto extra lines, overflow its box or change the slide's balance.

Flattened elements: when part of a slide arrives as a picture

A flattened element is part of a slide that arrives as a single picture instead of separate shapes and text, so you cannot click into it to edit words or colours. Canva's Help does not document which elements this affects; third-party guides report it for some charts, effects and grouped graphics, so check by clicking: PowerPoint shows the Picture Format tab for a picture and the Shape Format tab for a shape.

Definition What is a flattened element? A flattened element is a slide element, such as a chart, a styled heading or a group of shapes, that a conversion stores as one picture rather than as editable objects. It looks right but cannot be edited as text or data; to change it, rebuild it in PowerPoint or edit it in the source and download again.

How to convert Canva to PowerPoint without distortion

To convert Canva to PowerPoint without distortion, fix the three causes before you download. Match the slide size: a PowerPoint file has one slide size for every slide, so check Design > Slide Size against the Canva design [18]. Install the fonts first, so PowerPoint never substitutes. Check image quality on the presenting screen, and when a PDF copy is needed, remember that PDF Standard is 96 dpi and PDF Print 300 dpi [1]. Then compare the cover, a text-heavy slide, a chart and a photo slide with the Canva originals.

Export Canva to PowerPoint with animations, transitions and video

You cannot export Canva to PowerPoint with working animations or embedded videos today: Canva says animations and embedded videos are not yet supported in PowerPoint, and animated or video elements may not play as expected [1]. Re-add them in PowerPoint, where each takes a few clicks.

What to re-addWhere in PowerPointThe steps (Microsoft Support)
AnimationsAnimations tabSelect the object, choose an effect, set Effect Options; open the Animation Pane to see every animation on the slide [14].
TransitionsTransitions tabSelect the slide, pick an effect, set Duration, and click Apply To All for one transition throughout [15].
Video from your computerInsert tabWindows: Insert > Video > This Device; Mac: Insert > Video > Movie from File; web: Insert > Video > This Device [16].

Before downloading, list every slide in Canva that moves; the list becomes your re-add checklist. Keep only the animations that carry meaning, such as revealing a chart's bars in order. If the deck must play exactly as animated, present it from Canva or download an MP4, which Canva offers for designs with videos and music [1].

After export: the seven-point cleanup checklist

A Canva deck exported to PowerPoint is ready to send when it passes seven checks on a computer without your Canva fonts: fonts, text boxes, animations and video, images, slide size, charts and file size. Run them in this order, because a font fix changes line breaks, and every later check depends on them.

  1. Fonts: every font installed, embedded or replaced.Where: Home > Replace > Replace Fonts lists the fonts in use [13]. Pass: each one is installed on the recipient's computer, embedded with all characters, or an Office font. Fail: a font name the recipient does not have.
  2. Text boxes: editable text where people will edit.Where: click each title and body. Pass: a text cursor appears. Fail: the Picture Format tab appears for text someone must change.
  3. Animations and video: re-added.Where: Animations > Animation Pane; each video slide [14][16]. Pass: every item on your list plays in Slide Show. Fail: an empty Animation Pane on a slide that should move.
  4. Images: sharp at full size.Where: Slide Show on the presenting screen. Pass: no visible pixelation on photos and logos. Fail: soft edges on a logo slide.
  5. Slide size: one size for every slide.Where: Design > Slide Size [18]. Pass: Widescreen (16:9) or the size the event requires, with no content outside the slide. Fail: empty bands or cropped edges.
  6. Charts: you know which are pictures.Where: click each chart. Pass: the chart's data opens in PowerPoint, or the chart is marked to rebuild. Fail: a chart someone must update that is a picture.
  7. File size: under the recipient's limit.Where: File > Info. Pass: under the email or portal limit, and under 100 MB if it will open in Google Slides [7]. Fail: a bounced email; fix with Picture Format > Compress Pictures [19].

Embedded fonts add to the file size [19], so check file size last. Menu names are from PowerPoint for Windows; on a Mac, font embedding sits under PowerPoint > Preferences > Save [11].

Worked example: an 18-slide Canva proposal handed over in PowerPoint

The worked example takes a fictional 18-slide Canva proposal through a PPTX download, a fonts problem on the client's laptop and two fixes, with every number calculated in the open.

Example Lumen Studio (fictional). Lumen Studio, a fictional design studio, built an 18-slide brand refresh proposal for Alder Coffee, a fictional chain of 9 cafés, in Canva. Alder's marketing team edits everything in PowerPoint on Windows laptops, and Alder's board wants a read-only copy.
StepArithmeticDecision
DownloadShare > Download > PPTX, All pages: 18 slides, 38 MB38 MB is under Google's 100 MB limit and NOXI's 200 MB limit.

MovementAnimations on 6 slides + 1 embedded video = 7 items to re-addAs Canva warns, none of them play in PowerPoint.
Route A: fix by hand11 slides × 4 min = 44 min for fonts and line breaks; 6 × 3 min = 18 min for animations; 1 × 5 min = 5 min for the video; 44 + 18 + 5 = 67 minReplace Fonts swaps the font, but every wrapped title still needs a hand fix.
Route B: Fix formattingUpload 38 MB; 25 of 1,000 credits, 1,000 − 25 = 975 left; 15 min review + 18 + 5 min for animations and video = 38 minEditable .pptx with embedded fonts; animations re-added in PowerPoint.

Board copyPDF Standard, 96 dpi, for screens; PDF Print, 300 dpi, if printedNo conversion needed for a read-only copy.
Before and after strip for the fictional Lumen Studio proposal exported from Canva to PowerPoint. Fonts: 11 of 18 slides, 61.1 percent, showed substituted fonts on the client's laptop; after Fix formatting the fonts are embedded in the file. Movement: 7 items, 6 animations and 1 video, to re-add in PowerPoint. Time: 67 minutes to fix by hand versus 38 minutes with Fix formatting plus re-adding animations, a saving of 29 minutes. The board gets a PDF instead of a PPTX.
The download took a minute; the fonts on someone else's laptop decided the rest of the afternoon.

What Lumen would do differently. Checking the fonts' embeddability before designing would have avoided the problem: the Canva display font looked right, but its licence made it impossible to send in an editable file. With embeddable fonts, Route A drops to installing the two fonts, embedding all characters and re-adding the 7 movement items: 18 + 5 = 23 minutes, with no conversion at all.

PowerPoint to Canva: the reverse direction, and Canva vs PowerPoint

To move PowerPoint to Canva, drag the file onto Canva's homepage or into the editor, or use Upload; Canva's PowerPoint import is a beta that works in a desktop browser on canva.com [3]. It accepts .pptx files up to 300 MB and .ppt up to 100 MB, with up to 300 slides and 1,400 elements and images per file.

  • What is ignored. Charts, SmartArt, 3D objects and WordArt are not supported and are ignored during import [3].
  • Scanned decks. A scanned presentation comes in as a flat image, with no separately editable text [3].
  • Fonts. Canva tries to match fonts, but says an exact match is not always possible [3].

Canva vs PowerPoint: do you need to convert at all?

Convert only when someone else must edit in PowerPoint or a rule requires a .pptx. Canva is a full presentation tool: more than 100 million people use Canva Presentations every month, per its 2 September 2026 update [5], and since its Canva Create launch post of 16 April 2026, Canva Offline makes designs available without an internet connection for core edits [6]. Three prompts for an exported Canva deck in NOXI

These prompts cover the jobs from this guide in NOXI: the brief for Fix formatting on a Canva PPTX, the brief for Beautify my deck when the deck should also look better, and a follow-up edit. Replace the bracketed parts.

Prompt 1 · Fix formatting brief for a Canva PPTX

This [18]-slide deck was designed in Canva and downloaded as PowerPoint for [a client who edits in PowerPoint on Windows]. Make the formatting consistent on every slide: one heading font and one body font, the same margins and title position on every content slide, aligned boxes and even spacing. Keep every number, name and date exactly as written, and keep the slide order.

Prompt 2 · Beautify brief that keeps the content

Beautify this [18]-slide proposal for [Alder Coffee's marketing team]. Keep the slide order and every figure, including [the fee of $42,000 and the timeline dates]. Use [one green, #2F6B4F] as the accent colour, give each section a clear divider, and make the photo slides full-bleed.

Prompt 3 · Follow-up edit after the pass

On slides [5 to 9], shorten any title that wraps to a second line to under [60] characters without changing its meaning, use the same layout as slide [3] for every content slide, and turn the [deliverables] list on slide [6] into a [two-column table].

Build it in NOXI: six steps

These six steps run one flow, Fix formatting, on the PPTX you downloaded from Canva; a full deck uses about 25 of the 1,000 monthly credits.

Step 1 — Download the PPTX from Canva

In Canva, choose Share, then Download, set the file type to PPTX and download all pages. Delete any slides you will not send before you upload.

Step 2 — Start free

Open noxi.ai and create a free account; no card is needed, and each account gets a monthly allowance of 1,000 credits.

Step 3 — Choose Fix formatting and attach the file

On the home screen, choose Fix formatting (it may sit under More), then attach the Canva PPTX, up to 200 MB.

Step 4 — Describe the result you need

Add a short brief, such as Prompt 1 above: the fonts, spacing and alignment you expect, and the numbers that must not change. NOXI recreates the deck with consistent alignment, spacing and typography; watch each slide being built.

Step 5 — Review and edit by chat, click or hand

Ask the AI to change one slide or the whole deck in plain English, click any element and say what to change, or edit text, tables and chart numbers directly on the slide. Check the result against the seven-point checklist.

Step 6 — Download or share

Download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF, free and with no watermark; or share a view-only or edit link. Re-add animations and video in PowerPoint.

Frequently asked questions

Can you convert a Canva presentation to PowerPoint?
Yes. Canva downloads presentations as PPTX, the Microsoft PowerPoint format, from Share > Download; the option exists for presentations only. Canva warns that the file may look different in PowerPoint, that you may need to install the fonts you used, and that animations and embedded videos are not yet supported.
How do I download Canva as a PowerPoint?
Open the presentation in Canva, click Share, then Download, and choose PPTX (Microsoft PowerPoint) as the file type. Pick All pages, This Page or Custom, then select Download. Canva lists the same steps for desktop and mobile. If the design uses Pro content on a free account, Canva asks for a licence or offers a watermarked draft.
Why does my Canva presentation look different in PowerPoint?
Usually because of fonts. A PPTX stores font names, and a computer without those fonts substitutes others, which changes line breaks and spacing. Canva itself says PPTX files may look different and that you may need to install your fonts. Some elements may also arrive as pictures, so review every slide in PowerPoint before sending.
Why are my fonts wrong after exporting from Canva?
The fonts are not installed on the computer opening the file and are not embedded in it. Install them, then embed them with all characters through File > Options > Save in PowerPoint for Windows, or PowerPoint > Preferences > Save on a Mac. Fonts whose creator restricts embedding cannot travel; replace them with an Office font.
Do Canva animations work in PowerPoint?
No, not today. Canva's Help Centre says animations and embedded videos are not yet supported in Microsoft PowerPoint, and that animated or video elements may not play as expected. Re-add them in PowerPoint: effects on the Animations tab, slide transitions on the Transitions tab, and videos through Insert > Video > This Device on Windows.
Can I edit a Canva presentation in PowerPoint?
Yes. The PPTX that Canva downloads opens in PowerPoint as a normal file, and Canva advises making edits there where slides look different. Edits do not sync back to Canva, so decide which copy is the master. Click each title and text box to confirm it is text, because some elements may arrive as pictures.
Is converting Canva to PowerPoint free?
Usually. Canva's help pages put no plan restriction on the PPTX download; what they do document is that Pro content inside a design needs a licence or gives a watermarked draft. Google Slides converts files up to 100 MB for free. Free PDF converters have caps: iLovePDF's free tier converts one PDF of up to 15 MB per task.
How do I convert Canva to Google Slides?
Download the presentation from Canva as PPTX, upload it to Google Drive and double-click it to open it in Google Slides, which converts presentations of up to 100 MB. Check every slide afterwards: Google converts embedded charts and videos in PowerPoint files to images and SmartArt to Google Drawings.
How do I fix formatting after exporting from Canva?
Run seven checks on a computer without your Canva fonts: fonts installed, embedded or replaced; text boxes editable; animations and video re-added; images sharp; one slide size; charts checked; file size under the recipient's limit. Fix fonts first, because a font change moves line breaks on every slide that uses it.
Can AI fix a Canva deck exported to PowerPoint?
Yes. In NOXI, upload the exported PPTX to Fix formatting, which recreates the deck with consistent alignment, spacing and typography, and download an editable PowerPoint with embedded fonts. Beautify my deck is a separate flow that also improves the design while keeping every slide's content and order. Re-add animations in PowerPoint afterwards.

Changelog

  • 20 October 2026. First edition: five Canva to PowerPoint methods scored on six published criteria from official pages opened on 20 October 2026, with what Canva says changes in a PPTX, the font embedding rules, a seven-point cleanup checklist and a worked example.

Sources & methodology

How this comparison was made: every fact about a conversion method was read on the vendor's own help centre, product page or news post, opened on 20 October 2026 (checked 20 October 2026 for every entry below; pages that render by script were read in a browser). Scores credit documented capability only and are editorial judgements by NOXI, which is scored by the same rules from its product documentation; no new hands-on conversion test was run. Lumen Studio and Alder Coffee are fictional.

Download the PPTX from Canva, open it where your fonts are missing, and fix what moved. If the deck has to travel to computers that will never have your fonts, NOXI can recreate it with consistent formatting and give it back as an editable PowerPoint with the fonts inside, free.
