Disclosure: NOXI publishes this page and is one of the tools scored. That's why the rules, weights and the source of every cell are printed, along with where NOXI loses points.
Quick answer: Choose PowerPoint when the file, your company template and charts from Excel matter. Choose Canva when design range, brand assets and quick visual decks matter. On seven printed AI rules (checked 25–26 October 2026), PowerPoint with Copilot scores 83 and Canva 80. For a drafted deck that downloads as an editable PowerPoint, NOXI, a third option, scores 98.
Canva is a design tool that makes presentations; PowerPoint is the presentation file most organisations exchange. This page compares the two base apps first, on Canva's and Microsoft's own pages opened on 26 October 2026, without a score; then it scores the AI layer each adds, with one printed rule per criterion. Moving an existing Canva deck into PowerPoint has its own page: our guide to the Canva PPTX download and its fixes. Google Slides gets one section here; the full two-editor comparison is in our Google Slides and PowerPoint comparison.
In short
- The base appsCanva Free includes presentations, 1.6M+ templates by Canva's count and 20 AI uses a month; PowerPoint for the web is free with a Microsoft account, without Copilot.
- The filePowerPoint is the .pptx. Canva downloads a .pptx that Canva says "may look different", and its PowerPoint import ignores charts and SmartArt.
- The AI layer, scoredPowerPoint with Copilot 83, Canva 80, Gemini in Google Slides 66 on seven rules: Copilot gains on the file and editing depth, Canva on imports, Arabic layout and its free plan.
- PricesCanva Pro US$144 a year for one person, Business US$250 a year per person; Microsoft 365 Personal $99.99 a year with Copilot in PowerPoint.
- The third optionNOXI scores 98 on the same rules: our pick when you want a drafted deck that ends as a free, editable PowerPoint.
- Not scoredDesign taste, speed, video, Morph, Zoom and offline use. They get their own sections.
Key numbers
None of the six numbers is part of a score: no rule rewards size.
How we compared Canva and PowerPoint
The comparison runs in two layers. The base apps (Canva and PowerPoint as editors) are compared fact by fact, unscored, from official pages opened on 26 October 2026. The AI deck tools inside them (Canva AI and Copilot in PowerPoint) are scored on seven printed rules, with Gemini in Google Slides and NOXI scored by the same rules.
We re-applied the rules of our AI presentation tools ranking on 26 October 2026; the criteria, anchors and weights are those printed in the ranking's method section [35]. The ranking page itself still shows its 11 October edition.
| Code | Criterion | Weight | The rule (identical for every row) |
|---|---|---|---|
| P1 | Editable PPTX export | 20 | 5 = an editable .pptx with real text boxes on the free plan with no badge, or the tool edits the native PowerPoint or Google Slides file; 4 = same export on paid plans only, or free with a badge; 3 = the vendor documents visible differences, substituted fonts or elements that become images; 2 = PDF or images only; 1 = no file export. |
| P2 | Editing depth | 20 | 5 = four AI levels documented: whole deck, one slide, one selected element, your own template or brand kit as the style; 4 = three; 3 = two; 1 = regeneration or manual editing only. |
| P3 | Research with sources | 15 | 5 = web research and the source shown on the slide; 4 = cited research, placement not stated; 3 = research or citations in the chat only; 2 = grounds on uploads, no sources shown; 1 = none. |
| P4 | Import | 15 | 5 = PDF, Word, Excel or CSV, PowerPoint and images all accepted to create a deck, with a stated size limit; 4 = four of five, or all five with no limit; 3 = two or three types; 2 = one; 1 = text prompt only. |
| P5 | Languages incl. RTL | 10 | 5 = right-to-left layout documented; 4 = a language list naming Arabic; 3 = "many languages" without a list; 2 = no list, or English-only generation; 1 = English only. |
| P6 | Free plan reality | 10 | 5 = free generation and editable export, no card, no watermark, stated monthly allowance; 4 = free generation with a badged export or a small one-time pool; 3 = free generation without PowerPoint export; 2 = time-limited trial only; 1 = no free use. |
| P7 | Where it runs | 10 | 5 = web plus inside PowerPoint or Google Slides plus an API, MCP server or connectors; 4 = web plus one of those; 3 = web plus desktop or mobile apps; 2 = web only, or a single host app. |
The base apps are not scored because the seven rules were written for AI deck tools; templates, Morph or offline editing would need rules of their own. Our June 2026 hands-on comparison of NOXI and Canva is a separate method with its own date, not added to these totals; it is on the NOXI vs Canva page.
Canva vs PowerPoint at a glance: the base apps (unscored)
On the base apps, Canva leads on free design range and documents offline editing on most devices; PowerPoint leads on the file itself, on co-authoring a .pptx and on presenting features such as Morph and Zoom. Every cell comes from the vendor's own page, opened on 26 October 2026.
| Topic | Canva | PowerPoint |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Canva Free: presentations included, 1.6M+ templates, up to 20 AI uses a month, real-time collaboration, Canva Offline [3] | PowerPoint for the web free with a Microsoft account; 5 GB of OneDrive; files saved in OneDrive; Copilot "isn't included with the free version of PowerPoint" [16][17] |

Is Canva better than PowerPoint? Pick by the job
Canva is better than PowerPoint for visual range, brand assets and quick decks a small team designs together; PowerPoint is better when the deliverable is the .pptx itself, when a company template is fixed, or when charts must stay tied to Excel data. Name the job and the table answers it.
| If you need… | Choose | The documented reason |
|---|---|---|
| A deck the client edits as a .pptx | PowerPoint | No conversion step; Canva's PPTX download "may look different" [5] |
| Your company template | PowerPoint | The template is already a PowerPoint file; Copilot in PowerPoint works with a Brand Kit on work accounts [18] |
| Charts that update from Excel | PowerPoint (desktop) | Link data from a saved Excel worksheet and use Update Link [31]; Canva's import ignores PowerPoint charts [6] |
| Social posts and a deck in one place | Canva | One editor for presentations and other design types, with 1.6M+ templates on Free [3] |
| A free start with AI | Canva | 20 AI uses a month on Free [3]; Copilot in PowerPoint needs a Microsoft 365 subscription [17] |
| Arabic layouts | Canva, narrowly | Page mirroring documented in Translate [15]; PowerPoint documents right-to-left text editing [29] |
| Morph or Zoom on stage | PowerPoint | Both are PowerPoint features [25][26] |
Canva vs PowerPoint for presentations
For presentations, the question is where the deck ends. Presented from Canva, shared as a link or downloaded as a PDF, it keeps Canva's design. A deck someone will edit in PowerPoint should start there, or be checked slide by slide after the PPTX download [5].
Canva vs PowerPoint for business
In most companies the template, the slide master and the shared drive already sit in Microsoft 365, so PowerPoint is the default and Canva is added for marketing and social work. Canva Business adds team brand tools at US$250 per person a year [3]. The real choice is usually whether to add Canva, Copilot, or both.
Canva vs PowerPoint for students and teachers
Canva for Education is "100% free for K-12 (primary and secondary) educators", and students join when a teacher invites them [10]; PowerPoint for the web is free with a Microsoft account [16]. Canva for Nonprofits is free for one team of up to 50 [11].
The one-line rule
Choose PowerPoint when the file, your company template and charts from Excel matter; choose Canva when design range, brand assets and quick visual decks matter; if you want a deck drafted for you that downloads as an editable PowerPoint, a third tool fits.
Canva vs PowerPoint price: free plans, Canva Pro and Microsoft 365
Both start free: Canva Free includes presentations and 20 AI uses a month, and PowerPoint for the web is free with a Microsoft account. Paid, Canva Pro costs US$144 a year for one person, while Microsoft 365 Personal costs $99.99 a year and adds the desktop apps and Copilot in PowerPoint.
| Step | Canva (USD) | Microsoft (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Free | US$0: presentations, 1.6M+ templates, up to 20 AI uses a month, real-time collaboration, Canva Offline [3] | PowerPoint for the web with a Microsoft account, 5 GB of OneDrive; no Copilot in PowerPoint [16][17] |
| One person | Pro US$144 a year: 3.6M+ templates, up to 200 Premium AI uses (or 20 Ultra) a month [3] | Microsoft 365 Personal $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year; Premium $19.99 or $199.99; one-month trial [4][23] |
| Teams | Business US$250 a year per person, up to 400 Premium AI uses (or 40 Ultra) a month [3] | Business Standard with Copilot $23.50 per user a month paid yearly; Copilot Business add-on $18 (promotion, normally $21) [24] |
US list prices as shown on 26 October 2026, before tax. Canva's prices are its yearly prices. Microsoft's add-on promotion runs from 1 July to 31 December 2026 and applies to the first year only [24].
Is Canva free for presentations?
Yes. Canva's pricing page lists presentations on the Free plan, with 1.6M+ templates, real-time collaboration and up to 20 uses of Standard or Premium AI tools a month, pooled across tools and reset monthly [3]. Pro and Business add premium templates, larger AI allowances and team brand tools; both start with a free trial whose length the page does not state.
Canva Free vs Pro
The step from Free to Pro is mainly content and AI volume: 1.6M+ templates become 3.6M+ "including premium", and 20 AI uses a month become up to 200 Premium uses or 20 Ultra uses [3]. Canva's AI drafting for presentations "counts toward your monthly AI usage", so a Free user who drafts several decks a month reaches the cap sooner than one who only edits [13].
PowerPoint for the web costs nothing
Microsoft offers free Word, Excel and PowerPoint "using Microsoft 365 for the web", with 5 GB of OneDrive storage, and files "must be saved in and shared from OneDrive" [16]. What the free tier leaves out is Copilot: "It isn't included with the free version of PowerPoint" [17], and "AI features are not available in Microsoft 365 Basic" [4]. The full free-route comparison of the Microsoft and Google editors is in our Google Slides and PowerPoint comparison.
Templates and design: Canva's library vs PowerPoint's file
Canva's advantage is range: by its own count, 1.6M+ templates on Free and 3.6M+ on Pro, across presentations and every other design type [3]. PowerPoint's advantage is that the template is the company file itself, with a slide master every slide inherits, so a deck built in it stays on brand for the next person who opens it.
- Canva: templates, photos and elements in one editor; Canva AI can apply a Brand Kit and make changes from one element to "your whole design" [12]. Canva's template numbers are Canva's own figures.
- PowerPoint: Designer offers layout suggestions for the slide you are on, for everyone on PowerPoint for the web and for subscribers on the desktop [27]. On work accounts, Copilot follows a Brand Kit of templates, fonts, colours and logos [18].
- Visual polish: no vendor page measures it, nor do our rules. Our Gamma and Canva comparison sets Canva against other web-first deck makers.
PowerPoint files: what Canva's download and import do
Canva handles PowerPoint files both ways, with documented limits: its PPTX download "may look different", and its beta import ignores charts, SmartArt, 3D objects and WordArt. PowerPoint needs neither step, because the .pptx is its own file.
- Download (Canva to .pptx): "For presentations only"; fonts may need installing; "Animations and embedded videos are not yet supported in Microsoft PowerPoint" [5].
- Import (.pptx into Canva): .pptx, .potx and .ppsm up to 300 MB, .ppt up to 100 MB, up to 300 slides; "Charts, SmartArt, 3D objects, and WordArt aren't supported and will be ignored during import"; available "only on canva.com via your desktop browser" [6].
- Round trips: a deck that goes into Canva and back loses its charts on the way in and may shift on the way out. Keep the master copy in one tool.
For the step-by-step download, font fixes and a cleanup checklist, read our guide to the Canva PPTX download and its fixes.
Charts and data: Canva vs PowerPoint
For charts tied to a spreadsheet, PowerPoint is the documented route: the desktop app can link data from a saved Excel worksheet and refresh it with Update Link. Canva's own import page says PowerPoint charts are ignored when a .pptx comes in, so a chart-heavy deck should keep PowerPoint as its home.
- PowerPoint: link a saved worksheet through Insert, Object, Create from file, then refresh with Update Link; pasted data without a link "does not send automatic updates" [31]. Microsoft notes that "PowerPoint desktop app supports linking to locally stored Excel files" [31].
- Canva: charts are built inside Canva; on import from PowerPoint, "Charts … aren't supported and will be ignored" [6].
Whichever tool draws the chart, the chart type and the headline matter more than the software; our guide to presenting data has a chart chooser.
Collaboration and offline use
Both document real-time collaboration: Canva on every plan including Free, PowerPoint when the file sits in OneDrive or SharePoint. Offline, Canva edits for up to 14 days except in its iOS and iPad apps; PowerPoint's desktop apps come with the paid Microsoft 365 plans.
Canva vs PowerPoint collaboration
- Canva: real-time collaboration is listed on Free and Pro [3]; people can "Comment on elements, pages, or whiteboards" [9].
- PowerPoint: "When you save your presentation to OneDrive or SharePoint in Microsoft 365, you can work on it concurrently with your colleagues"; on Mac, tagging a colleague with @ is marked "Microsoft 365 only" and sends them an email [28].
Canva offline vs PowerPoint offline
- Canva: offline editing works in Chrome, Edge and Safari on the desktop, recent Firefox, the desktop app, the Android app and mobile browsers; "iOS and iPad apps" are not supported; "You can work offline for up to 14 days"; AI features need a connection [7]. Offline presenting must be set up on the same device while online [8].
- PowerPoint: the desktop apps come with Personal, Family and Premium [4]. On work plans, Microsoft 365 Apps must reach the licensing service "at least once every 30 days", or they enter reduced functionality mode, where documents can only be viewed and printed [30].
Morph and Zoom
Zoom (Summary, Slide and Section Zoom) is created on the desktop apps, plays on mobile and is listed as "None" for PowerPoint for the web [26]. Canva has its own animations, but they do not survive a PPTX download [5]. If your talk depends on either PowerPoint feature, build it in PowerPoint.
AI: Canva AI vs Copilot in PowerPoint, scored on seven rules
On seven printed rules, PowerPoint with Copilot scores 83 and Canva 80. Copilot gains on working inside the PowerPoint file, on editing depth and on where it runs; Canva gains on imports, documented right-to-left layout and its free plan. NOXI, scored by the same rules as a third option, totals 98; Gemini in Google Slides, 66.

| Criterion | PowerPoint with Copilot | Canva | NOXI | Gemini in Google Slides |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P1 Export (20) | 5. "generates or edits content directly within PowerPoint" [18] | 3. PPTX "may look different when opened in Microsoft Powerpoint" [5] | 5. The arithmetic, row by row
Each weighted score is the rating divided by 5, times the criterion's weight; the total is the sum of the seven.
| Criterion | Copilot | Canva | NOXI | Gemini in Slides |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P1 (20) | 20 | 3 ÷ 5 × 20 = 12 | 20 | 20 |
| P2 (20) | 20 | 4 ÷ 5 × 20 = 16 | 20 | 16 |
| P3 (15) | 3 ÷ 5 × 15 = 9 | 9 | 15 | 9 |
| P4 (15) | 4 ÷ 5 × 15 = 12 | 15 | 15 | 9 |
| P5 (10) | 8 | 10 | 10 | 2 ÷ 5 × 10 = 4 |
| P6 (10) | 2 ÷ 5 × 10 = 4 | 10 | 10 | 4 |
| P7 (10) | 10 | 4 ÷ 5 × 10 = 8 | 8 | 4 |
| Total | 20 + 20 + 9 + 12 + 8 + 4 + 10 = 83 | 12 + 16 + 9 + 15 + 10 + 10 + 8 = 80 | 20 + 20 + 15 + 15 + 10 + 10 + 8 = 98 | 20 + 16 + 9 + 9 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 66 |
The gaps, explained
- Copilot minus Canva = 3. Copilot gains on P1 (+8), P2 (+4) and P7 (+2) = 14; Canva gains on P4 (+3), P5 (+2) and P6 (+6) = 11. 14 − 11 = 3 = 83 − 80. Research (P3) is level.
- NOXI minus Canva = 18. NOXI gains on P1 (+8), P2 (+4) and P3 (+6) = 18 = 98 − 80. Import, languages, free plan and where it runs are level.
- NOXI minus Copilot = 15. NOXI gains on P3 (+6), P4 (+3), P5 (+2) and P6 (+6) = 17; Copilot leads NOXI on P7 (+2), because it runs inside PowerPoint itself. 17 − 2 = 15 = 98 − 83.
- Canva minus Gemini in Slides = 14. Canva gains on P4 (+6), P5 (+6), P6 (+6) and P7 (+4) = 22; Gemini in Slides leads on P1 (+8), because it edits the Slides file. 22 − 8 = 14 = 80 − 66.
What would change the result
- Canva 78 if "Mirror page to match text direction", a Translate setting, is not read as right-to-left layout (P5 = 4).
- Canva 76 if the pricing page's export row ("PDF, JPG, PNG") is read as the full Free list (P6 = 3).
- PowerPoint with Copilot 81 if admin-enabled work connectors are not counted (P7 = 4); 80 if a spreadsheet used as a chart source is not counted as an import (P4 = 3).
- NOXI 94 if its connector is not counted (P7 = 2); NOXI 89 for a deck started from an attached file, where research and source lines are off by default (P3 = 2); NOXI 90 if the in-product export notices (complex graphics kept as pictures) were counted as documented differences (P1 = 3). Those notices are in-app messages, not an official page, so the official-pages rule applied to every vendor keeps P1 at 5.
No single line puts Canva ahead of Copilot: at Copilot 80 and Canva 80 the tie-break on P1 (5 against 3) still lists Copilot first.
Canva Magic Design and Canva AI for presentations
Searchers still call it Magic Design; Canva's help pages now describe drafting a presentation with Canva AI. Each draft counts against the monthly allowance: 20 uses on Free, up to 200 Premium uses on Pro [3][13]. Edits then work on the whole design or a selected element [12].
Canva vs Google Slides, and where Gemini in Slides scores
Google Slides sits between the two: free with any Google Account like Canva, a slide editor that converts PowerPoint files like PowerPoint. Its AI layer, Gemini in Google Slides, scores 66 on the same seven rules, against Canva's 80, mainly because Google documents it on the desktop only, in English only and on paid plans.
- Google Slides: "Anyone with a Google Account can create in Slides"; it converts PowerPoint files, edits offline and supports live editing with comments; Gemini features come as an add-on [32].
- Gemini in Slides: since 30 June 2026 Google says it can "Create fully native and editable presentations" in Slides [33]; it refines "one slide at a time", can match the style of an uploaded deck, and "requires an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan" [34].
- Canva: more templates and design types on Free, documented Arabic page mirroring and 20 free AI uses a month; but a Canva deck reaches Google Slides or PowerPoint only through a download [3][5][15].
Canva vs Google Slides: which to use
Choose Google Slides when your team lives in Drive and the deck must stay an editable slide file; choose Canva when visual design matters more than the file. Canva vs PowerPoint vs Google Slides reduces to one question: which file, or which link, does the audience expect?
Canva vs PowerPoint for Arabic and other languages
For Arabic, Canva documents page mirroring when it translates a design, which our rules count as right-to-left layout; PowerPoint documents right-to-left text editing, and Microsoft lists Arabic for Copilot without a layout statement. Canva scores 5 on languages, Copilot 4.
- Canva: the Translate setting "Mirror page to match text direction to support right-to-left languages" [15].
- PowerPoint: "Microsoft 365 supports right-to-left functionality and features"; the right-to-left paragraph button "only appears if you have a right-to-left language enabled" [29].
- Copilot in PowerPoint: Arabic is listed for work and personal accounts; no statement on mirrored layouts [22].
- Gemini in Slides: "available on desktop and in English only" [34].
A practical test for any Arabic deck: build one slide with a timeline, a table and a chart, then check the reading order of each in the final file.
Worked example: a six-person studio, Canva, PowerPoint or both
For a six-person studio making weekly social visuals and two client decks a month, Canva Business costs US$1,500 a year and Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot $1,692; both, $3,192. Clients edit the decks in PowerPoint, but the studio need not buy it to deliver them.
Step 1: what the studio makes
Weekly social visuals are design work. Two client pitch decks a month, each delivered as an editable .pptx, are file work; Tomasz drafts them alone.
Step 2: the cost of a year
| Option | Price used | One year, 6 people |
|---|---|---|
| A. Canva Business | US$250 per person a year | 6 × US$250 = US$1,500 |
| B. Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot | $23.50 per user a month, paid yearly | $23.50 × 12 × 6 = $1,692 |
| C. Both | A + B | $1,500 + $1,692 = $3,192 |
| NOXI for the decks | Free, 1,000 credits a month per account | $0 |

Step 3: does a free allowance cover the decks?
Two decks a month at about 25 credits each use 2 × 25 = 50 credits, 5% of a 1,000-credit monthly allowance (50 ÷ 1,000 = 0.05). Tomasz could draft 1,000 ÷ 25 = 40 decks a month on one free account before running out.
Step 4: the decision
Tomasz keeps Canva Business (option A) for social and brand visuals, where its templates and brand tools earn their cost. Client decks are drafted in NOXI and delivered as editable .pptx files; when a deck must start from an existing Canva design, he downloads it as PowerPoint and runs it through NOXI's Fix formatting so the file is consistent before the client opens it. For a last look in PowerPoint itself, the free PowerPoint for the web is enough [16]. Against option C, the studio saves $3,192 − $1,500 = $1,692 a year. He sets a review date of 1 April 2027: if clients start asking for Morph, Zoom or linked Excel charts, Microsoft 365 goes back on the table.
If one of those client decks is a marketing plan, our marketing plan presentation guide has the slide order and a budget slide.
Here are three slides from the deck NOXI built for this article's worked example, unedited.

What these rules don't measure
The seven rules measure documented AI capability, not slide quality or the base apps, so several real strengths of Canva and PowerPoint score nothing here.
- Canva: a very large design and template library (Canva's own count: 1.6M+ on Free), Brand Kits and Brand Templates, team design workflows, video and social formats in one editor, Translate with page mirroring, and free programmes for K-12 schools and nonprofits [3][10][11][15].
- PowerPoint with Copilot: works inside the PowerPoint file Microsoft 365 users already have, with Brand Kit, Designer, Zoom and Morph; for organisations already on Microsoft 365 there is no new tool to approve [18][25][26][27].
- Gemini in Google Slides: already inside Slides, Drive and Gmail for teams on an eligible plan [34].
- Not measured for anyone: output quality and design taste, speed, how often a tool invents a figure, accessibility, comments and review workflows, video, offline presenting and template range. NOXI's export notices, where complex graphics can be kept as pictures, are not scored either (sensitivity above).
Where others lead NOXI, in plain terms: Canva offers a design library and social formats NOXI does not aim at, and Copilot works inside PowerPoint itself; NOXI runs in the browser on desktop and phone and hands you an editable .pptx. For other tools in this space, see our ranked list of PowerPoint alternatives.
Where NOXI fits: the third option
NOXI fits between the two: it drafts a whole deck from a prompt or a file, the way Canva's AI does, and ends in an editable PowerPoint, the way a PowerPoint user needs. NOXI scores highest on these seven rules (98), and it is our pick for people who want a drafted deck delivered as a free, editable .pptx.
Describe your topic and NOXI builds the full deck; when you start from a prompt, it researches the topic on the web first, and slides with figures carry a source line. You can also upload a PDF, Word document, Excel or CSV file, PowerPoint or image, up to 200 MB per file. Ask the AI to change one slide or the whole deck in plain language, click any element and say what to change, or use Match reference to design the deck in the style of your own PowerPoint or PDF.
Download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx), free and with no watermark: NOXI's own export engine writes real, editable text boxes and embeds the fonts, Arabic included. NOXI is free, with no card: each account gets 1,000 credits a month, and a full deck uses about 25. Your presentations, prompts and files are not used to train AI models.
Three prompts for a Canva-or-PowerPoint deck
"Create a 9-slide deck for [team] deciding between Canva, PowerPoint or both. Slide 2 lists what we make each month. Show the plans in US dollars with the date, the yearly cost for [number] people, and end with the split we chose, the owner and a review date."
"This deck was downloaded from Canva as PowerPoint. Keep every slide, its order and every number. Use one heading font and one body font throughout, align all titles to the same position, and make spacing consistent on every content slide."
"On slide [number], turn the price list into a two-column table, Canva and Microsoft, one row per plan. Shorten every title to one line and keep the brand colour [hex code], then export the deck as PowerPoint."
Build it: make a Canva deck consistent in PowerPoint with Fix formatting
When a Canva deck must reach a client as a PowerPoint file, NOXI's Fix formatting recreates it with consistent alignment, spacing and typography and returns an editable .pptx. One flow, six steps. Because it starts from a file, web research is off by default: such a deck scores 89, not 98.
Step 1 — Download the deck from Canva as PowerPoint
In Canva, open the presentation, choose Share, then Download, and pick PPTX as the file type. Delete any slides you will not send before you upload.
Step 2 — Sign in to NOXI with a free account
Open noxi.ai and sign in or create a free account; uploads and exports need one. No card is needed, and each account gets 1,000 credits a month.
Step 3 — Choose Fix formatting and attach the file
On NOXI Home, open More and choose Fix formatting, then attach the PPTX from Canva, up to 200 MB.
Step 4 — Say what must stay and what to fix
Add a short brief, such as Prompt 2 above: the slides, order and numbers that must not change, and the fonts and spacing you expect. NOXI recreates the deck with consistent alignment, spacing and typography; watch each slide being built.
Step 5 — Review and edit by chat
Ask the AI to change one slide or the whole deck in plain language, click any element and say what to change, or edit text, tables and chart numbers directly on the slide.
Step 6 — Download an editable PowerPoint or a PDF
Download the deck as an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, free and with no watermark, or as a PDF. Add any Canva animations again in PowerPoint, because they do not travel in a PPTX.
Canva vs PowerPoint: FAQ
- Is Canva better than PowerPoint?
- It depends on the deliverable. Canva is better for design range, brand assets and quick visual decks; PowerPoint is better when the client edits the .pptx, when a company template is fixed, or when charts link to Excel. On seven AI rules checked on 25–26 October 2026, PowerPoint with Copilot scores 83 and Canva 80.
- Is Canva free for presentations?
- Yes. Canva Free includes presentations, more than 1.6 million templates by Canva's count, real-time collaboration and up to 20 uses of Standard or Premium AI tools a month, reset monthly. Canva Pro costs US$144 a year for one person and raises the AI allowance to up to 200 Premium uses a month.
- Can Canva open PowerPoint files?
- Yes, in beta and from a desktop browser. Canva imports .pptx, .potx and .ppsm files up to 300 MB and .ppt files up to 100 MB, with up to 300 slides. Charts, SmartArt, 3D objects and WordArt are ignored during import, so rebuild those in Canva or keep the deck in PowerPoint.
- Why does my Canva deck look different in PowerPoint?
- Canva itself says presentations downloaded as PPTX may look different in PowerPoint. The usual causes are fonts that are not installed on the computer opening the file, and animations or embedded videos, which PowerPoint does not receive. Check every slide after the download; our Canva PPTX guide has the step-by-step fixes.
- Which is better for students, Canva or PowerPoint?
- Both are free routes. Canva for Education is free for K-12 teachers and the students they invite, and Canva Free includes presentations. PowerPoint for the web is free with a Microsoft account and 5 GB of OneDrive. A student who must submit a .pptx is safer in PowerPoint; one presenting from a browser can use Canva.
- Does Canva work offline?
- Yes, on most devices. Canva Offline is listed on the Free and Pro plans, and offline editing works for up to 14 days in desktop browsers, the desktop app, the Android app and mobile browsers. It does not work in the iOS and iPad apps, and AI features need an internet connection.
- Canva or Google Slides?
- Choose Google Slides when your team works in Drive and the deck must stay an editable slide file; it is free with any Google Account and converts PowerPoint files. Choose Canva for templates, design range and free AI uses. On seven AI rules, Canva scores 80 and Gemini in Google Slides 66.
- Does PowerPoint have AI for free?
- Not Copilot. Microsoft says Copilot in PowerPoint is available with a Microsoft 365 subscription and is not included with the free version of PowerPoint; Microsoft 365 Personal costs $9.99 a month, with a one-month trial. Designer's layout suggestions are free for everyone on PowerPoint for the web.
- Which is better for business presentations?
- PowerPoint, in most companies, because the template, slide master and shared drive already sit in Microsoft 365 and clients exchange .pptx files. Canva fits marketing and social teams that need brand assets and many formats. Many businesses run both: PowerPoint for client files, Canva for visuals and quick internal decks.
- Can I use Canva templates in PowerPoint?
- Yes, by downloading a Canva presentation as a PPTX, which Canva offers for presentations only. Install the fonts the template uses, or PowerPoint will substitute others and shift line breaks. Animations and embedded videos do not carry over, so add those again in PowerPoint before you present or send the file.
Canva vs PowerPoint on Reddit: what to check
Forum threads, Reddit included, often predate Canva's current AI allowances and Copilot's 2026 changes, such as attaching an image when Copilot creates a presentation (generally available July 2026) [21]. Check the date of any thread against the vendor pages listed below before relying on it.
