Canva vs Adobe Express — NOXI comparison cover: two design suites and one budget, compared on seven documented criteria from each vendor's own pages

Disclosure: NOXI publishes this comparison. NOXI is a presentation maker, not a design suite, so it is not one of the two scored rows; it appears only in the presentation section and its setup steps.

Quick answer: Pick Canva if a team shares brand kits, templates and AI tools across many formats, or you want a free brand kit. Pick Adobe Express if one person wants the cheapest monthly plan (US$9.99) or you already pay for Adobe. On seven printed rules checked on 24 October 2026, Adobe Express scores 96 and Canva 93.

Most Canva vs Adobe Express (or Adobe Express vs Canva) pages quote last year's prices. This one reads both companies' own pages on one day, scores both on seven printed rules and links every cell.

Canva vs Adobe Express side by side (24 October 2026)

Canva and Adobe Express now overlap on most everyday design work: both have a free plan with AI, both make presentations and export them to PowerPoint, both co-edit in real time and both connect to the main AI assistants. The documented differences are price and billing, the free brand kit, template counts and how each vendor words AI training.

How we compared Canva and Adobe Express

Both suites were scored on documented capability: seven criteria, each with one written rule applied in the same way to both, using only official Canva and Adobe pages opened on 24 October 2026 without signing in. It is not a new hands-on test, and it does not score design quality, template taste or ease of use.

Method Scored on documented capability from official pages opened on 24 October 2026: pricing pages, help centres, newsrooms and privacy pages, read in a browser with optional cookies declined. Not a new hands-on test. Weighted score = rating ÷ 5 × weight; the weights total 100. A cell scores low only when an official page was opened and does not document the feature. This is rubric C, written for design suites; it is a different rubric from the one on our assistant comparisons, so the numbers are not comparable across those pages.
CodeCriterionWeightThe rule (identical for both)
C1Free plan20Count five capabilities documented on the free plan: AI image generation; AI presentation generation; PowerPoint (.pptx) export; real-time co-editing; a brand kit. 5 = 5; 4 = 4; 3 = 3; 2 = 2; 1 = 0–1.
C2Entry price15Cheapest paid plan for one person, per month (annual price ÷ 12 if published). 5 = ≤ $10; 4 = $10.01–12; 3 = $12.01–15; 2 = $15.01–20; 1 = over $20.
C3AI allowance on that plan155 = a monthly AI allowance of 200 or more uses or credits is published; 3 = an allowance is published but under 200; 1 = not published.
C4Presentations20Count five: AI deck generation; .pptx export; present mode in the app; .pptx import; a Google Slides route (direct export, or an official add-on in Slides). 5 = 5; 4 = 4; 3 = 3; 2 = 2; 1 = 0–1.
C5Brand tools, cheapest paid plan105 = more than one brand kit documented; 3 = a brand kit documented (one, or count not stated); 1 = none.
C6AI-assistant connectors10Count official connectors or apps for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. 5 = 4; 4 = 3; 3 = 2; 2 = 1; 1 = 0.
C7AI training on your content105 = the vendor states it does not train its generative models on customers' content; 4 = a setting controls it and its default (no training) is stated; 3 = a setting controls it, default not stated; 1 = nothing stated.

Four clarifications apply to both vendors. Scope: a capability counts when the vendor documents it for the free plan, the cheapest paid plan, or the product with no plan limit; anything documented only for education, business or enterprise accounts is reported in the text but not scored. Pages: a vendor's own Google Workspace Marketplace listing counts as an official page; a privacy default counts only when a current trust, help or pricing page states it, so older announcements are reported, not scored. Betas count when documented as available. Units: C3 compares published numbers, not what they buy, because a Canva "use" and an Adobe "credit" are different units.

The scored table: Adobe Express 96, Canva 93

Adobe Express scores 96 and Canva 93 out of 100 on the seven rules. Adobe Express gains 7 points on the entry price and its training statement; Canva wins 4 back on the free plan. The AI allowance, presentations, brand tools and connectors are level.

Two stacked bars out of 100. Canva 93: free plan 20, entry price 12, AI allowance 15, presentations 20, brand tools 10, AI connectors 10, AI training 6. Adobe Express 96: 16, 15, 15, 20, 10, 10, 10.
A 3-point gap, different strengths: Adobe's lead comes from price and its training statement, Canva's points back from the free plan.

Why the lead is narrow

Adobe wins 3 for a price under US$10 (C2) and 4 for its no-training statement (C7). Canva gains 4 for the free brand kit (C1). Check: 3 + 4 − 4 = 3 = 96 − 93.

What would change the result

  • Adobe C4, Slides add-on: the add-on is documented on Adobe's Marketplace listing; Adobe's help centre describes a Slides embed only for K-12. Without the listing, Adobe scores 92 and Canva leads 93–92.
  • Adobe C5: the "multiple brands" answer names no plan. Read as not applying to Premium, Adobe scores 92 and Canva leads 93–92.
  • Canva C7: counting the 2023 "by default" line as current gives Canva 95, still 1 behind. Canva's January 2026 Shield post describes opt-in only for accounts created through the Affinity Studio sign-up.
  • C4, Slides route: neither add-on is an export. If the rule required an export, both lose 4: Canva 89, Adobe 92.
  • Canva C4, beta: Canva calls its PowerPoint import "an early version (beta release)". Excluding betas gives Canva 89.

The range is Canva 89–95 and Adobe Express 92–96 on single readings; two of them flip the order, so the verdict at the top is about jobs, not totals.

Canva vs Adobe Express pricing: plans side by side

For one person, Adobe Express Premium costs US$9.99 a month and Canva Pro US$144 a year or US$18 a month, so Adobe is cheaper on monthly billing and still US$24.12 a year cheaper against Canva's annual price. For teams, Adobe Express Teams costs US$4.99 a licence a month in the first year, against US$250 a year per person for Canva Business.

Schools and nonprofitsK-12 and not-for-profits: "most premium features for free"; nonprofits get one team of up to 50 users [3]"Free Adobe Express for K–12 Education license" with Premium at no cost [4]US$0 for eligible schools on both

Two plan facts trip people up: "Only one person can use a Canva Pro account", and Canva Teams is closed to new sign-ups, so a shared paid Canva plan means Business [3]; and Adobe's US$4.99 Teams price applies to the first year only [4].

Canva Pro vs Adobe Express Premium

Canva Pro includes up to 200 Premium AI uses a month, 3.6+ million templates and 5 brand kits for US$12.00 a month on annual billing. Adobe Express Premium includes 250 generative credits, 519,000+ templates, brand kits and Adobe's partner AI models for US$9.99 a month, with no annual price shown [3][4].

If you already pay for Adobe, check before you buy anything: Adobe says Express Premium is included with Creative Cloud Standard and Creative Cloud Pro, with most single-app plans and with every Acrobat Studio subscription [22]. Adobe's Firefly plans page ticks Express Premium on Firefly Pro and the two plans above it, not on Firefly Standard [30].

Is Canva better than Adobe Express? Pick by the job

Canva is better than Adobe Express for teams that share brand kits and templates, and for anyone who needs a brand kit without paying. Adobe Express is better for one person on a monthly budget, for people who already pay for Adobe, and for anyone who wants a written no-training statement.

Which is easier to use, and what the Reddit threads argue about

Neither vendor publishes a usability measure, so we do not score ease of use. The "Canva vs Adobe Express Reddit" threads argue about three things: price, template count and ease. The first two have documented answers above; for the third, both free plans need no card, so a week on your own work answers it.

Canva vs Adobe Express in 2026: what changed

Six dated items matter this year. Canva introduced Canva AI 2.0 as a research preview on 16 April 2026 [1]; said on 2 September 2026 that more than 100 million people use Canva Presentations every month [2]; and launched Canva Craft, its first in-house image model, on 22 October 2026 [16]. Adobe connected its tools, Express included, to Claude (help page dated 24 September 2026) and Google Gemini (dated 1 October 2026) [24][25]. Adobe's Express comparison table is labelled as of May 2026 [4].

Canva vs Adobe Express free: what each free plan includes

Both free plans generate AI images and presentations, export presentations to PowerPoint and allow real-time co-editing. Canva Free adds one brand kit and gives up to 20 AI uses a month; Adobe Express Free gives free daily generations and five lifetime uses of Generate Presentations, with brand kits starting on Premium.

A five-row checklist of free-plan capabilities. AI image generation: Canva up to 20 AI uses, Adobe Express free daily generations. AI presentation generation: Canva up to 10 free uses, Adobe 5 free lifetime uses. PowerPoint export: both, presentations only. Real-time co-editing: both included. Brand kit: Canva 1 Brand Kit, Adobe from Premium.
Rule C1: Canva Free covers all five capabilities (20 points), Adobe Express Free four (16 points); the difference is the brand kit.

Canva AI vs Firefly in Adobe Express: the AI tools compared

Canva's AI tools run on a shared monthly allowance measured in "uses", with Standard AI tools not counted on paid plans. Adobe Express runs on generative credits powered by Adobe Firefly, plus free daily generations on the free plan. Both generate images, designs, presentations and short videos, and both allow commercial use of outputs under their terms.

Definition Generative credits: Adobe's unit for generative AI. Adobe describes them as "like tokens" you spend to generate images, vectors, video and audio; plans include a monthly number (250 on Express Premium), and unused credits "do not roll over to the next month".
Definition AI use (Canva): one run of a Canva AI tool, drawn from a monthly allowance shared across Standard, Premium and Ultra tools. Higher tiers use more of the allowance, so Canva states ranges: on Pro, up to 200 uses of Premium tools or up to 20 of Ultra tools.

No official page measures AI output quality. Adobe documents its training data: Firefly models "were trained on a dataset of licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, and public domain content where copyright has expired" [4]. Canva documents breadth: AI across docs, sheets, sites, video and presentations, and Canva AI 2.0 in research preview since 16 April 2026 [1].

Canva vs Adobe Express for social media and video editing

For social media, both suites create posts for every major network, resize designs and schedule posts. Adobe Express schedules to one account per network on Free and three on Premium; Canva includes scheduling from Pro. For video, both edit and caption video; Adobe states video length (30 minutes on Free, 2 hours on Premium) and 4K export on Premium.

For daily posting to several accounts on a free plan, Adobe documents more scheduling; for long or 4K video, Adobe states the limits.

Canva vs Adobe Express for presentations

Both suites generate a deck from a prompt, present it in the browser, import a PowerPoint file, export a presentation as .pptx and offer a Google Slides add-on. Canva adds Canva Live for audience questions; Adobe adds source documents for its AI decks, up to 10 files of PDF, DOCX, PPTX and other formats.

Can I export Canva or Adobe Express to PowerPoint?

Yes, both export presentations as editable .pptx files, and both say the result may not match exactly. Canva writes that designs downloaded as PPTX "may look different when opened in Microsoft Powerpoint" and that you may need to install the fonts [8]. Adobe writes that fonts "may appear differently in PowerPoint" and that videos, animations and audio are left out [19]. Neither exports other design types (a poster, a social post) as PowerPoint. Our Canva to PowerPoint guide scores five ways to move a Canva deck into PowerPoint and what each keeps.

For a presentation-only comparison that includes Gamma and Beautiful.ai, see Gamma vs Canva vs Beautiful.ai; for a wider list, our PowerPoint alternatives ranking scores 15 tools.

Brand kits, templates and teams

Canva counts its brand kits per plan (1 on Free, 5 on Pro, 100 on Business) and lists more templates at every tier, with 3.6+ million on Pro. Adobe Express puts brand kits on Premium, says you can set up multiple brands, and adds brand controls and template locking on Teams.

Definition Brand kit: a saved set of a brand's colours, fonts, logos and graphics that the editor applies to new designs. Adobe describes it as keeping "all your colors, fonts, logos and graphics in one brand kit"; Canva counts kits per plan (1, 5 or 100).
Brand and team itemCanvaAdobe Express

For a marketing team, the template count matters less than whether everyone starts from the same locked template. Canva lists brand controls on neither Free nor Pro; Adobe includes brand controls and template locking in Teams, at US$4.99 a licence a month in year one. Our marketing plan presentation template shows what a brand-consistent campaign deck needs.

Canva and Adobe Express connectors for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot

Both suites connect to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot, so both score 5 on C6. Canva's AI connector is powered by the Canva MCP Server; Adobe's are separate connectors plus a Copilot agent.

  • Canva: "No, all Canva plans connect to AI assistants, including Canva Free"; resize needs a paid plan, and autofill and brand templates need Enterprise [12].
  • Adobe for Claude: connects Claude "with capabilities from Acrobat, Adobe Express, Photoshop", and more (page dated 24 September 2026) [24].
  • Adobe for Google Gemini: lets you "design using an Express template" in Gemini; needs a free Adobe account (dated 1 October 2026) [25].
  • Adobe Express for ChatGPT: search templates, add text, swap images and animate in the chat; not available on Enterprise, Teams or Education plans (dated 19 August 2026) [26].
  • Adobe Express agent for Copilot: searches templates, fills text, replaces images and adds animation inside Microsoft 365 Copilot (dated 8 April 2026) [27].

Do Canva or Adobe train AI on your designs?

Adobe states that your content is never used to train its own or partner generative AI models, on a help page that lists Adobe Express (updated 23 October 2026). Canva says it uses your content to improve AI features only when your Privacy Settings allow it; its current Trust Center does not state the default, though its 2023 Magic Studio post said that by default it doesn't.

Adobe says it has integrated Content Credentials "to recognize the source of images" and "promote transparency"; on the Canva pages we opened, they were not documented.

Rule C7 reads the plans one person can buy. If you design for clients, check your Canva Privacy Settings once.

What about Microsoft Designer and Figma?

Microsoft Designer and Figma do different jobs from Canva and Adobe Express, so we did not score them. Designer is Microsoft's AI graphic design app for personal use; Figma is a design and prototyping tool built around product and interface teams.

Microsoft describes Designer as "a graphic design tool that helps you create, design, and edit", with AI images, greeting cards, invitations, stickers and photo edits, and notes that it "is licensed for personal, non-commercial use with your Microsoft account" [31]. For business posts, brand kits and team work, Canva and Adobe Express are the documented fit; for personal cards and quick image edits inside Microsoft apps, Designer is.

Canva vs Figma

Figma Design describes itself as a place to "Design and prototype in one place", with multiplayer files and comments; Figma also offers Figma Slides to "Co-create presentations" and Figma Make to "Prompt to code" [32]. Choose Figma for product and interface design; choose Canva or Adobe Express for marketing, social and everyday business design.

Worked example: a three-person bakery picks a design tool

For one person, Adobe Express Premium costs US$24.12 a year less than Canva Pro on annual billing. For three people over two years, Adobe Express Teams costs US$467.28 against US$1,500 for Canva Business, a difference of US$1,032.72.

Example Marisol Vega is a fictional baker who runs Vega Bakery with two staff. All three make social posts, and Marisol makes a monthly price-list deck for the café's screen and a wholesale client. All prices are the US list prices on 24 October 2026, before tax.

Two years, Canva Business2 × US$750US$1,500.00
Two years, Express TeamsUS$179.64 + US$287.64US$467.28

One seat. US$144 − US$119.88 = US$24.12 a year, which is US$24.12 ÷ US$144 = 16.75%, or 16.8% less for Adobe. On Canva's monthly price the gap is wider: 12 × US$18 = US$216, so US$216 − US$119.88 = US$96.12 a year.

Three people. Canva Pro is for one person only, so three people need Canva Business. Over two years: US$1,500 − US$467.28 = US$1,032.72 in Adobe's favour, which is US$1,032.72 ÷ US$1,500 = 68.8% less.

AI headroom. Canva Business gives up to 400 Premium AI uses a person a month: 3 × 400 = 1,200. Adobe Express Teams gives 250 generative credits a user a month: 3 × 250 = 750 credits. The units differ, so Marisol does not compare the two numbers directly.

Her decision. Adobe Express Teams for all three from 1 January 2027: it is US$1,032.72 cheaper over two years, includes brand kits and template locking, and exports her price-list deck to PowerPoint. She sets a review for 1 December 2027, a month before the first-year price ends.

Bars for the fictional Vega Bakery at US list prices on 24 October 2026. One person for 12 months: Canva Pro $144, Adobe Express Premium $119.88. Three people for 24 months: Canva Business $1,500.00, Adobe Express Teams $467.28.
One seat differs by US$24.12 a year; three seats over two years differ by US$1,032.72, mostly because of Adobe's first-year Teams price.

If your goal is a presentation

If the job is a slide deck, both suites make one, and a dedicated presentation maker is a third route. NOXI is our pick for turning a Canva or Adobe Express design into a full deck in the same style, ready to edit by chat and download as PowerPoint.

Our NOXI vs Canva comparison covers the presentation side in detail. For design rules that apply in any tool, see how to make a presentation look professional; to restyle an existing PowerPoint, see AI tools that make your PowerPoint look better; for chart slides from your own numbers, see AI chart makers compared.

With Match reference, you upload a PowerPoint, a PDF or even an image as the style reference, and NOXI designs your new deck in that style: colours, typography, layouts and visual rhythm. Put the deck's content in the brief, then edit one slide or the whole deck by chat in plain English or Arabic. You download it as an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, Arabic included, or as a PDF, with no watermark. NOXI is free: each account gets a monthly allowance of 1,000 credits, and a full deck uses about 25.

Three prompts for a deck in your Canva or Express style

Prompt 1 · Deck in my design's style

"Use the attached [Canva or Adobe Express] design as the style reference. Build a [number]-slide deck for [audience] about [topic]: same colours, fonts and logo placement. Every title is a full-sentence finding, and the last slide lists next steps with owners and dates."

Prompt 2 · Price list or menu deck

"In the style of the attached design, make a [number]-slide price list for [business]. One slide per category with item, size and price in [currency], a slide for [seasonal offer], and a closing slide with opening hours and contact details."

Prompt 3 · Edit after generation

"Turn slide [number] into a two-column comparison of [option A] and [option B], keep the reference style, shorten every title to one line, and make the closing slide's call to action [action]."

Build it: a NOXI deck in the style of your Canva or Express design

To turn a Canva or Adobe Express design into a deck in the same style, export the design as a PDF, choose Match reference on NOXI's Home, upload the PDF as the style reference and put your content in the brief. One flow, six steps:

Step 1 — Export your design as a PDF

In Canva or Adobe Express, open the design whose look you want and download it as a PDF; both list PDF export on their free plans. A file with a title page, a text page and an image page gives NOXI the clearest picture of your style.

Step 2 — Open Match reference on NOXI's Home

Sign in to NOXI with a free account, which uploads need. On Home, open More and choose Match reference. It also accepts a PowerPoint file or a PNG or JPG screenshot as the reference.

Step 3 — Upload the style reference

Attach the PDF from step 1. NOXI uses it for the look of the new deck: colours, typography, layouts and visual rhythm, so the slides match the design your team already uses.

Step 4 — Write the brief with your content

Paste what the deck should say into the brief: audience, number of slides, the items and prices or findings, and the decision you want. Prompt 1 or Prompt 2 above is a ready starting point.

Step 5 — Generate, then edit by chat

Generate the deck and watch each slide being built. Read the titles in a row first, then ask for changes in plain language, for one slide or the whole deck, such as "make slide 4 a comparison table in the same style".

Step 6 — Present, share or download

Present full-screen from NOXI, share a view-only link, or download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF, with no watermark.

Canva vs Adobe Express: FAQ

Is Canva better than Adobe Express?
Not on our score, and only narrowly: on seven documented rules checked on 24 October 2026, Adobe Express scores 96 and Canva 93. Canva leads on its free plan's brand kit. Adobe Express leads on monthly price and a written no-training statement. Two single readings could reverse the order, so pick by your job.
Is Adobe Express cheaper than Canva?
Yes, for one person and for small teams. Adobe Express Premium costs US$9.99 a month, or US$119.88 a year, against Canva Pro at US$144 a year or US$18 a month. Adobe Express Teams costs US$4.99 a licence a month in the first year, then US$7.99, against US$250 a year per person for Canva Business.
What do the Canva and Adobe Express free plans include?
Both free plans generate AI images and presentations, export presentations to PowerPoint and allow real-time co-editing. Canva Free adds one brand kit, 1.6+ million templates and up to 20 AI uses a month. Adobe Express Free gives free daily generations, five lifetime uses of Generate Presentations and social scheduling to one account per network.
Can I use Adobe Express if I already have Creative Cloud?
Usually yes, at no extra cost. Adobe says Express Premium is included with Creative Cloud Standard and Creative Cloud Pro, with most Creative Cloud single-app plans, and with every Acrobat Studio subscription. Adobe's Firefly plans page also includes Express Premium on Firefly Pro and higher plans, though not on Firefly Standard. Check your plan in Adobe Express first.
Which has better AI tools, Canva or Adobe Express?
No official page measures AI quality, so neither wins on documented facts. Canva Pro includes up to 200 Premium AI uses a month and AI across docs, sheets, sites and video. Adobe Express Premium includes 250 generative credits a month, Firefly models trained on licensed content, and partner models. Try both free plans on your own designs.
Can Canva and Adobe Express export to PowerPoint?
Yes. Both export presentations as .pptx files, and only presentations. Canva says the file may look different in PowerPoint and you may need to install fonts. Adobe says fonts may appear differently, and that videos, animations and audio are not included. Both also import PowerPoint files, Canva as a beta.
Which is better for social media, Canva or Adobe Express?
Both create posts for every major network. Adobe Express includes social scheduling to one account per network on its free plan and three on Premium. Canva includes scheduling from Pro and adds a larger template library. For several accounts on a free plan, Adobe documents more; for shared brand templates, Canva documents more.
Is Canva Pro for more than one person?
No. Canva's pricing page says only one person can use a Canva Pro account, and that Canva Teams is no longer available for new sign-ups or upgrades. For two or more people, Canva points to Canva Business at US$250 a year or US$25 a month per person, which adds team invites and 100 brand kits.
Do Canva or Adobe train AI on my designs?
Adobe says your content is never used to train its own or partner generative AI models. Canva says it uses your content to improve AI features only when your Privacy Settings allow it; a 2023 announcement said that is off by default, but current pages do not restate it. Canva says Business, Enterprise, Teams and Education content is not used.
Which is free for teachers, Canva or Adobe Express?
Both are free for eligible K-12 schools. Canva says K-12 educational organisations and not-for-profits get most premium features for free. Adobe offers a free Adobe Express for K–12 Education licence that includes Premium at no cost. Higher education has separate offers on both: Canva Campus and Adobe's student pricing.

Sources & methodology

How this comparison was made: every price, plan feature, limit and statement comes from Canva's and Adobe's own pages (plus Adobe's own Google Workspace Marketplace listing), opened on 24 October 2026 without signing in, in a browser with optional cookies declined; canva.com/pricing was read with the US country code. Scores are documented capability on seven printed rules, not a hands-on test. Marisol Vega and Vega Bakery are fictional; every calculation was checked twice. All sources were checked on 24 October 2026.
