Claude PowerPoint skill: guide cover about the eight routes from Claude to a real PowerPoint file, compared by plan, setup and licence

Disclosure: NOXI publishes this guide and appears in it as one example of route 8, a custom connector you add to Claude. The other seven routes work without NOXI, and none of them is scored. Every plan, install and licence fact below is quoted from Anthropic's help centre, documentation, pricing page and GitHub, read on 29 October 2026, with the date each page shows. Ana Souza in the worked example is fictional.

Quick answer: the Claude PowerPoint skill is Anthropic's built-in "pptx" skill: Claude writes a real .pptx file on all 5 Claude plans, Free included, up to 30 MB per file. Claude Code (Pro or an API key) installs it with two commands; the API calls it as "pptx". It is source-available, not open source. Checked 29 October 2026.

Search for the Claude PowerPoint skill and you get mirrors of Anthropic's GitHub repository, community lists and install guides that contradict each other: one says the skill is built in and needs no install, the next says you must add a plugin, a third calls it open source. All three are partly right: Anthropic ships the same skill through several routes, and its own pages disagree on details. This guide sorts the eight routes from Claude to a PowerPoint by plan, setup and licence, and says when a skill is the right tool and when the add-in or a connector fits better. If you are still choosing between assistants, our ranking of 12 chatbots that can make a PowerPoint covers that question first.

In short

  • Every plan"Skills are available for users on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans", and "PowerPoint presentation generation" is one of Anthropic's own skills [1][2].
  • No install on claude.ai"Claude will automatically use the PowerPoint skill if the capability is enabled": turn on code execution and file creation [2].
  • Claude CodeTwo commands from the anthropics/skills README; Claude Code itself shows "No" for Free on the pricing page [5][6].
  • Licence"These are source-available, not open source"; the pptx folder's licence forbids copies outside Anthropic's services [6][7].
  • CodexCodex runs skills in the same open format, but OpenAI ships no skill dedicated to PowerPoint files [19][20].
  • Designed deck, no codeA custom connector: "Free users are limited to one custom connector" [18].

The eight routes from Claude to a PowerPoint

Claude has eight documented routes to a PowerPoint file. Four use the pptx skill itself (claude.ai, Claude Code twice, the API); the other four reach a PowerPoint another way (Codex, the add-in, Claude Slides, a connector). The full table with setup and sources follows further down.

#RouteCheapest planWhat you get
1Built-in pptx skill on claude.aiFree ($0)A .pptx in the chat, up to 30 MB, or saved to Google Drive [3]
2Claude Code + document-skills pluginPro ($17 a month billed annually) or an API keyA .pptx written into your project folder [5][6]
3Claude Code with skills synced from claude.aiA claude.ai sign-in on a plan with Claude CodeYour claude.ai skills inside Claude Code v2.1.273 or later [8]
4Claude API, skill_id "pptx"An API key; 1,550 free container hours a month per organisationA file_id you download through the Files API [10][12]
5Codex skillsChatGPT Free, per OpenAIWhatever the skill you install writes; no official OpenAI pptx skill [19][20]
6Claude for PowerPoint (add-in)ProClaude inside PowerPoint, working on your open file and template [15]
7Claude SlidesFreeA deck in the chat, exported to PowerPoint, Google Slides or PDF [17]
8Custom connector to a deck makerFree (one connector)A deck built by an outside tool; with NOXI, PDF, PowerPoint and HTML files [18][22]

Prices are the US prices on claude.com/pricing on 29 October 2026: Pro is "$17 Per month with annual subscription discount ($200 billed up front). $20 if billed monthly", and Max starts "From $100" a month [5]. Your country's page may show another currency.

Decision tree for getting a PowerPoint out of Claude, checked 29 October 2026: a quick deck from a chat on any plan leads to the built-in pptx skill on claude.ai; decks built from files in a code repository, or inside your own app, lead to Claude Code with the document-skills plugin or the Claude API with skill_id pptx, which need Pro or an API key; work inside a company PowerPoint template leads to Claude for PowerPoint on Pro and up; a designed deck without code leads to a custom connector, one of which is allowed on Free.
Start from the job, not from the skill: four questions pick the route.

Who should pick which route

One documented fact decides each line:

  • If you need a quick .pptx from a chat on any plan → the built-in pptx skill on claude.ai, because "Skills are available for users on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans" and Claude picks the skill automatically [1][2].
  • If you need decks built from files in your repository → Claude Code with the document-skills plugin, because the anthropics/skills README installs it with two commands and the skill then runs on your machine [6].
  • If you need decks generated inside your own product → the Claude API with skill_id "pptx", because the pre-built skill runs in the code-execution container with "1,550 free hours of usage per month" before container billing starts [10][12].
  • If you need to work inside your company's PowerPoint template → Claude for PowerPoint, because it runs in PowerPoint on your open file and is "generally available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans" [15].
  • If you need a deck you can share and export later, on Free → Claude Slides, because Anthropic says it is "included within every plan, including the Free plan" and exports to PowerPoint [17].
  • If you need a designed deck without code or setup → a deck-maker custom connector such as NOXI, because Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector and the deck maker does the design [18][22].

What a Claude skill is, and how it differs from a connector or the add-in

A Claude skill is a folder of instructions, scripts and resources that Claude loads when a task needs it; the PowerPoint skill is the folder that tells Claude how to write, read and edit .pptx files with code. Anthropic's help centre defines skills as "folders of instructions, scripts, and resources that Claude loads dynamically" [1]. A connector is something else: in Anthropic's words, "MCP connects Claude to external services", while "Skills provide procedural knowledge" [1].

Definition What is an Agent Skill? An Agent Skill is a folder that Claude loads when a task calls for it, holding a SKILL.md file of instructions plus optional scripts and resources. Anthropic ships its own skills for PowerPoint, Word, Excel and PDF files, and users can add their own. Skills need code execution, because the scripts run in a sandbox or on your machine.

For decks the difference is who does the work. With a skill, Claude writes a script, runs it and hands you the file. With a connector, another service builds the deck and returns it. The add-in is a third thing: Claude running inside PowerPoint on the file you have open, where "Skills you've enabled in your Claude settings are also available" since 11 March 2026 [2][16].

Definition What is SKILL.md? SKILL.md is the instruction file at the top of every skill folder. Its front matter gives the skill's name, a description Claude uses to decide when to load it, and a licence line; the body explains the method. The pptx skill's SKILL.md tells Claude to "Write a pptxgenjs script" for new decks and to edit slide XML for existing ones.

Skills follow an open format: OpenAI's Codex docs say "Skills build on the open agent skills standard" [19]. Whether you may move a given skill is a licence question, covered below.

Sources: the pricing grid [5] and the custom-connector article [18]. Team and Enterprise also include skills [1]; there, an owner switches them on under "Organization settings > Plugins & skills", on the "Policy" tab [2].

Anthropic's launch post of 16 October 2025 still lists only paid plans [14]; the help centre and the pricing grid now include Free, and the pricing page decides [1][5]. One cost note: "creating files will use more of your limit compared to normal chats" [3].

Route 1: the built-in PowerPoint skill on claude.ai

On claude.ai there is nothing to install: the PowerPoint skill is one of Anthropic's own skills, and "Claude will automatically use the PowerPoint skill if the capability is enabled" [2]. The capability is code execution and file creation, which for Free, Pro and Max "is enabled by default" [3]. It works "on the web, Claude Desktop, and Claude Mobile" [3].

Definition What is code execution in Claude? Code execution is the Claude setting that lets Claude run code in a secure sandbox, which is how it creates and edits files such as .pptx, .docx and .xlsx. In the help centre it is called "Code execution and file creation", or "Create and edit files" in the updated settings layout. Skills require it.

How to turn on the PowerPoint skill

  1. Check the capability. "Navigate to Settings > Capabilities and ensure that Code execution and file creation" is on (in the newer layout, "Create and edit files") [2][3].
  2. Check the skill list. "Go to Customize > Skills" and "Toggle individual skills on or off as needed" [2].
  3. Ask for the deck. Describe the audience, the slide count and the material, and attach your notes or documents. No special command is needed.
  4. Download the file. Claude returns a .pptx you can download, or Claude can "save them directly to Google Drive" [3].

On Team and Enterprise, an owner enables code execution and skills first [2]. To add your own skill on any plan, click "+", then "+ Create skill", then "Upload a skill", and upload a ZIP file [2].

Claude · Route 1

Create a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx) of [10] slides for [the engineering all-hands] from the attached [README and release notes]. One idea per slide, the slide title as a full-sentence takeaway, at most [3] bullets per slide. Use a chart only where the notes give numbers, and keep every number exactly as written.

What the file is like

New decks start from "Write a pptxgenjs script"; existing decks are edited through "ppt/slides/slideN.xml" [7]. SKILL.md also tells Claude to "Keep charts native", so charts are written as PowerPoint chart objects when Claude follows it; that is an instruction to Claude, not a product promise [7]. The help centre says only that Claude can create "PowerPoint presentations (.pptx)" [3].

Design is plain by default. Attach a reference deck, name your colours and fonts, and say which slides need a chart or table; the skill can build from a template [7]. If the deck will be opened on other computers, see our guide to embedding fonts in PowerPoint.

Limits to know

  • 30 MB per file for files Claude creates and the uploads it works on in the sandbox: "The maximum file size is 30MB per file for both uploads and downloads" [3].
  • 500 MB per file for ordinary chat uploads, "Up to 20 files per chat" [4]: a different path.
  • Usage. File creation uses more of your plan's limit than a normal chat [3].

Routes 2 and 3: the pptx skill in Claude Code

In Claude Code you install Anthropic's document skills as a plugin from the anthropics/skills repository, with two commands: /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills, then /plugin install document-skills@anthropic-agent-skills [6]. The plugin contains the xlsx, docx, pptx and pdf skills, listed in the repository's marketplace file [6]. Claude Code itself needs Pro or above, or an API key: the pricing grid shows "Claude Code" as No on Free [5].

How to install the pptx skill in Claude Code

Claude Code · install

/plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
/plugin install document-skills@anthropic-agent-skills

  1. Add the marketplace. In a Claude Code session, run the first command. The README calls this registering the repository "as a Claude Code Plugin marketplace" [6].
  2. Install the plugin. Run the second command, or use the menu: "Browse and install plugins", anthropic-agent-skills, document-skills, "Install now" [6]. From your shell: claude plugin install <plugin>@<marketplace> [9].
  3. Install the local tools. The pptx skill lists its dependencies: pptxgenjs (npm), markitdown[pptx], Pillow, defusedxml and lxml (pip), LibreOffice (soffice) and pdftoppm from Poppler [7].
  4. Use it. "You can use the skill by just mentioning it" [6], for example: "Use the pptx skill to build a 10-slide deck from docs/launch.md".
Install card for the Claude pptx skill in Claude Code, checked 29 October 2026: the two commands, /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills and /plugin install document-skills@anthropic-agent-skills, and the four local dependencies the skill lists: Node with pptxgenjs, Python with markitdown, Pillow, defusedxml and lxml, LibreOffice, and Poppler for pdftoppm; Claude Code needs Pro or an API key.
Two commands install the skill; four local tools let it run on your machine.

Why the local tools matter

In Anthropic's sandbox, SKILL.md says "pptxgenjs is preinstalled" [7]; on your laptop nothing guarantees it. The skill uses Node to write the deck, Python to read it back, and LibreOffice and Poppler to render slide images so Claude can check its own work [7]. Without LibreOffice that visual check cannot run, and SKILL.md warns that LibreOffice "substitutes fonts it doesn't have" anyway [7].

Route 3: skills synced from claude.ai

Claude Code can also load the skills you have on claude.ai. Synced skills include "Anthropic's built-in skills such as pdf and xlsx", and "Syncing in terminal sessions requires Claude Code v2.1.273 or later" [8]. Sign in with /login using your claude.ai account and run /skills to see them [8]. Sync does not happen when you sign in with an API key [8]. The docs name pdf and xlsx as examples, not pptx, so if the PowerPoint skill does not appear in /skills, use the plugin route above.

Your own skills in Claude Code

Claude Code reads skills from "~/.claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md" for "All your projects on this machine", ".claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md" for "Sessions in this repository", and plugin folders [8]. A project folder suits a house deck skill the whole team shares.

Two Anthropic pages disagree here

Anthropic's API overview says the pre-built document skills "are not available in Claude Code" [11], while the anthropics/skills README installs them into Claude Code as a plugin [6]. The practical reading: they are not built in, and you add them through the anthropics/skills marketplace. Anthropic's official plugin marketplace, anthropics/claude-plugins-official, does not list document-skills among its 315 plugins, which is why you add the anthropics/skills marketplace first [6].

Route 4: the pptx skill through the Claude API

In the Claude API, the PowerPoint skill is a pre-built skill with the short name "pptx": you list it in the request's container parameter, enable the code-execution tool, and download the file Claude creates through the Files API [10][13]. The guide gives the pre-built names as "pptx, xlsx, docx, pdf", with type "anthropic" and a version that is "Date-based: 20251013 or latest" [10].

What a minimal request contains

  1. An API key from the Claude Console, sent in the usual x-api-key header. Keep it in an environment variable, never in code you share.
  2. The skill in the container parameter: type "anthropic", skill_id "pptx", version "latest" [10].
  3. The tool code_execution_20250825, named code_execution, in the tools list [10][12].
  4. The file. The code-execution results "return file_id attributes", and "You must use the Files API to download" the deck [10].

No beta header is required: "The Skills API is out of beta and needs no beta header", and requests that still send skills-2025-10-02 "keep working" [10]. The code-execution and Files pages say the same [12][13]. The help centre still says "in beta for all API users" [1]; the API docs describe the requests, so follow them.

Limits and costs

  • 20 skills per request; custom skill uploads up to "30 MB (all files combined, uncompressed)" [10].
  • No network and "No runtime package installation" inside the container, so the skill works only with what the container holds [10].
  • Container time: each organisation "receives 1,550 free hours of usage per month", then "$0.05 USD per hour, per container", on top of normal token prices [12].

Is Anthropic's pptx skill open source?

No. The pptx skill is source-available and proprietary: you can read it on GitHub, but its licence does not let you copy it outside Anthropic's services or build derivative works from it. Its SKILL.md front matter says "license: Proprietary. LICENSE.txt has complete terms", and the repository README says the document skills "are source-available, not open source" [6][7].

The confusion comes from the README line "Many skills in this repo are open source (Apache 2.0)" [6], which covers the example skills, not the four document skills. The pptx LICENSE.txt reads "© 2025 Anthropic, PBC. All rights reserved" and bars you from "Create derivative works" or keeping copies "outside the Services" [7].

QuestionAnswer for the pptx skillSource
Can I read it?Yes: SKILL.md and its scripts are public on GitHub[6][7]
Can I use it in Claude?Yes, on claude.ai, in Claude Code through the plugin, and in the API[2][6][10]
Can I fork and change it?No: the licence forbids derivative works[7]
Can I copy it into another assistant? No: no copies "outside the Services"[7]
Is it production-ready?The README calls the skills "provided for demonstration and educational purposes only"[6]

To change and share a PowerPoint skill, write your own SKILL.md or start from an MIT-licensed community skill below.

Is there a Codex PowerPoint skill?

Not a dedicated one. Codex supports skills in the same open format as Claude, but OpenAI ships no skill built for PowerPoint files: its old openai/skills repository now says "This repository is deprecated", and neither it nor the newer openai/plugins repository holds a stand-alone pptx skill [20]. OpenAI's documentation says "Use agent skills to extend ChatGPT and Codex with task-specific capabilities", and "Skills build on the open agent skills standard" [19].

How skills work in Codex

  • Where they live: $HOME/.agents/skills for your user, $CWD/.agents/skills for a repository [19].
  • How you call one: "In Codex CLI or the IDE extension, run /skills or type $", and install curated skills with $skill-installer [19].
  • Plans: OpenAI's summary says Codex is included in ChatGPT "Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, or Enterprise" [19].

OpenAI's plugins repository holds slide-related skills such as google-slides, canva-branded-presentation and reports-pdfs-and-slide-automation, a reporting skill that lists PowerPoint decks among its targets, but no skill dedicated to .pptx files like Anthropic's [20].

The tempting shortcut is to copy Anthropic's pptx folder into ~/.agents/skills. Don't: its licence forbids copies "outside the Services" [7]. Use an openly licensed community skill, or write your own with Codex's $skill-creator [19]. If what you want is a deck inside ChatGPT rather than in Codex, ChatGPT's plugin directory includes presentation plugins, NOXI among them; our NOXI ChatGPT plugin announcement has OpenAI's install steps.

Community PowerPoint skills on GitHub

Dozens of community skills promise slides, and the most-starred ones do not all make PowerPoint files: two of the top three output HTML slides, and one makes slides out of images. These are community projects, not official, and Anthropic has not endorsed any of them. Star counts and licences are as shown on each repository on 29 October 2026; stars change daily.

Read the licence column first: AGPL-3.0 carries obligations if you build the skill into a service others use, and "none listed" gives no written permission at all. Slides made of images cannot be edited as text in PowerPoint.

Routes 6 and 7: Claude for PowerPoint and Claude Slides

Two Claude routes reach a PowerPoint without the skill being the main tool. Claude for PowerPoint runs Claude inside PowerPoint on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and Claude Slides builds a deck in the chat on every plan, Free included, and exports it to PowerPoint [15][17].

Claude for PowerPoint

Claude for PowerPoint is installed from Microsoft AppSource as "Claude for Microsoft 365" and runs in PowerPoint on the web, Windows and Mac [15]. Anthropic's page says it can "Convert bullets into diagrams" and build charts that stay chart objects in PowerPoint, inside the deck and template you already use [15]. It is "generally available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans", so not on Free [15]. The add-in launched in Anthropic's release notes on 5 February 2026, and skills support in the add-ins followed on 11 March 2026 [16]. For how it compares with other AI add-ins, see our ranking of AI add-ins for PowerPoint; for finance decks, our best AI for financial presentations ranking scores Claude at 94 and places it first on the tie-break.

Claude Slides

Claude Slides arrived in the release notes on 16 September 2026 with the line "Claude Slides gives presentations their own starting point" [16]. It is "included within every plan, including the Free plan", and "You can export your deck to PowerPoint, Google Slides, and PDF" [17]. Our Claude Slides vs Gamma comparison covers the Slides route in depth.

The quick test: an existing file that must keep its template goes to the add-in; a deck you refine in chat before export goes to Slides; a .pptx straight from a chat or from code goes to the skill.

Can Claude open or edit my PowerPoint file?

It depends on the route. The pptx skill covers "Edit an existing deck, or build from a template", and the add-in works on the file you have open [7][15]. But Anthropic's upload article (updated 23 July 2026) lists PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT, HTML, ODT, RTF, EPUB, JSON and XLSX for chat, without .pptx [4]. That is the likely source of the "claude pptx not supported" searches; whether claude.ai accepts a .pptx once file creation is on is not stated on Anthropic's pages, so we treat it as unconfirmed. Three documented ways around it:

  • Use the add-in (Pro and up): open the deck in PowerPoint and work on it there [15].
  • Use Claude Code: the skill reads a local .pptx with markitdown and edits its slide XML on your machine [7].
  • Send the content, not the file: export the deck to PDF, which the upload list includes, and ask Claude to rebuild it as a new .pptx [4].

Installing skills from GitHub safely

A skill runs code, so treat it like any program you download. Anthropic's help centre says to install skills only from trusted sources, naming prompt injection and data exfiltration as the main risks [2]. Five checks first:

  1. Know who publishes it.Pass: the repository belongs to a person or organisation you can identify, with a history of other work.
  2. Read SKILL.md and every script.Pass: you can say what each script does; nothing sends files, keys or chat content to an address you don't recognise.
  3. Check the licence.Pass: the licence allows your use (MIT or Apache-2.0 for most teams); AGPL-3.0 or "none listed" goes to your legal or IT contact first.
  4. Check the output format.Pass: the skill writes the file type you need (.pptx with text boxes, not HTML or images, if colleagues will edit it in PowerPoint).
  5. Try it on a copy.Pass: the first run uses sample material in a test folder, never your only copy of a client deck.

On Team and Enterprise, owners control which skills members can use from the "Policy" tab [2].

When the skill is the right choice, and when it isn't

The pptx skill is the right choice when you want a real .pptx quickly, on any plan, and can supply the design rules yourself. It is free on every plan, needs no install on claude.ai, returns a file you own, and in Claude Code or the API it repeats the same method on every deck, which suits release notes, weekly reports and other decks that share one structure [1][6][10].

It is the wrong choice when the deck must follow a company template exactly (the add-in works inside the file), when nobody can install the local tools for Claude Code, or when the design matters more than the speed and nobody will restyle the slides (a deck maker, through a connector, does the design). What this guide does not measure: the design quality of each route's output, your setup time, whether a licence fits your company's rules, and the security of community skills. Test the route on one real deck first. If you are weighing Claude against other assistants for decks, our ranking of 12 chatbots for PowerPoint scores Claude 87 on its presentation rules, behind ChatGPT on 90 and Kimi on 88.

Worked example: ten decks a month without upgrading

A developer advocate on Claude Free can cover ten decks a month for $0 in subscription fees by splitting the work between the built-in skill and one custom connector, instead of paying $200 a year for Pro. Here is the decision, with the arithmetic.

Example Ana Souza is a fictional developer advocate at Souza Cloud, a software company in São Paulo. She uses Claude on the Free plan, and Claude Code through her company's API key for coding. Each month she needs 10 decks: 6 internal (release briefings built from READMEs) and 4 for customers. Her work laptop is managed by IT, and she cannot install software herself. Prices are the US prices on claude.com/pricing, read on 29 October 2026.

Step 1: the volume

10 decks a month × 12 = 120 a year: 6 × 12 = 72 internal, which must be quick, and 4 × 12 = 48 for customers, which must look designed.

Step 2: what each route costs her

RouteOn Ana's setupDecision
1 · Skill on claude.aiFree plan, no install; her largest internal deck is 12 MB, which is 12 ÷ 30 = 40% of the 30 MB file limitYes, for the 72 internal decks
2 · Claude Code + pluginWorks with her API key, but needs Node, Python, LibreOffice and Poppler on a laptop she cannot changeNot now; an IT request later
3 · Sync from claude.aiSync does not happen with an API-key sign-inNo
6 · Claude for PowerPointNeeds Pro: $200 a year billed up front, or $20 × 12 = $240 billed monthlyNo
8 · Deck-maker connectorUses her 1 of 1 custom connector on Free; she connects NOXI as a custom connectorYes, for the 48 customer decks

Step 3: the split

Internal decks: she attaches the README on claude.ai and uses the Route 1 prompt. Customer decks: she pastes the README as a brief into a chat with the NOXI connector on, gets PDF, PowerPoint and HTML files back, and makes a last edit in NOXI.

The cost

OptionClaude subscription for a yearAdd-in included?
Pro, billed monthly$20 × 12 = $240Yes
Pro, billed annually$200Yes
Ana's split on Free$0Not needed

The split avoids $200 a year against Pro billed annually, or $240 against monthly billing. The trade-off: her one free custom connector slot is taken. When she needs a second connector, or the add-in for a customer's template, Pro earns its $200, so she reviews the split on 1 March 2027.

Three prompts for the NOXI connector

With NOXI added as a custom connector and turned on in the chat, these three prompts cover the common jobs.

Prompt 1 · A customer deck from a README

Using the NOXI connector, create a [10]-slide presentation for [a customer onboarding call] from the README below. Audience: [IT leads who have not used our API]. One idea per slide, action titles, a simple diagram of the setup steps, and our colour [#0B5FFF]. Keep every version number and command exactly as written. [Paste the README]

Prompt 2 · A follow-up edit

In the NOXI deck you just made, turn slide [4] into a three-step process, slide [6] into a comparison table of [the Free and paid tiers], and shorten every slide title to [8] words or fewer. Don't change any number.

Prompt 3 · An Arabic version

Using the NOXI connector, create an Arabic version of this deck for [our Riyadh partner]. Keep the slide order, names, numbers and commands, write the slides right to left, and keep product names in Latin letters as their companies write them.

Build it in NOXI: connect NOXI to Claude as a custom connector

Connect NOXI to your assistant with the address on noxi.ai/connect, then ask it to make a deck; open it in NOXI to edit, present or export. In Claude, that is a custom connector added under Customize > Connectors with the address mcp.noxi.ai/mcp, and the steps below use the wording of Claude's help centre and NOXI's connect page [18][22]. Six steps:

Definition What is a custom connector in Claude? A custom connector links Claude to an outside service through a remote MCP server that you add by its URL. Claude can then use that service's tools in a chat, after you sign in to the service and approve access. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector; Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise allow more.

Step 1: Open Customize > Connectors in Claude

In Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop, navigate to Customize > Connectors, the page where Claude lists every connector on your account.

Step 2: Select + Add, then Add custom connector

Click "+ Add", then "Add custom connector". On the Free plan you can add one custom connector, so use the slot for the tool you need most.

Step 3: Enter the name and the MCP server address

Enter NOXI as the name, paste https://mcp.noxi.ai/mcp from noxi.ai/connect as the remote MCP server URL and click Continue. Keep the detected settings and click Add; no client ID or API key is needed.

Step 4: Sign in to NOXI and approve access

Sign in to NOXI in the window that opens, with a free account if you are new, and approve access for the connector. If no window opens, select Connect next to NOXI in the connectors list.

Step 5: Turn the connector on in a chat and ask for the deck

In a new chat, open the + menu, choose Connectors and turn NOXI on. Then ask for the presentation with your brief or outline, as in Prompt 1 above.

Step 6: Get the files, then edit or present in NOXI

The PDF, PowerPoint and HTML files arrive in the chat. Open the deck in NOXI to edit any slide by chat, present it full screen, or export an editable PowerPoint with real text boxes and embedded fonts.

In a Team or Enterprise organisation, an owner adds the connector under Organization settings > Connectors first, and members then select Connect in Customize > Connectors [18]. For connectors in general, see our guide to Claude connectors and MCP, and for other deck-making servers, our ranking of MCP servers for PowerPoint.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Claude PowerPoint skill?
The Claude PowerPoint skill is Anthropic's built-in "pptx" skill: a folder of instructions and scripts that lets Claude write, read and edit .pptx files with code. On claude.ai, Claude uses it automatically when code execution and file creation is on. It is available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, per Anthropic's help centre on 29 October 2026.
Is the Claude pptx skill free?
Yes. Anthropic's help centre and pricing page list skills on all 5 plans, Free included, on 29 October 2026, and the PowerPoint skill is one of Anthropic's own. Anthropic's October 2025 launch post listed only paid plans; the newer pages replace it. File creation uses more of your plan's usage limit than a normal chat.
How do I install Claude skills?
On claude.ai, Anthropic's skills need no install: turn on "Code execution and file creation" under Settings > Capabilities and check Customize > Skills. To add your own skill, click "+", "+ Create skill", "Upload a skill" and upload a ZIP. In Claude Code, install them as a plugin or put a SKILL.md folder in .claude/skills.
How do I install the pptx skill in Claude Code?
Run /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills, then /plugin install document-skills@anthropic-agent-skills, as the anthropics/skills README shows on 29 October 2026. Then install the skill's local tools: Node with pptxgenjs, Python with markitdown, Pillow, defusedxml and lxml, LibreOffice, and Poppler. Ask Claude Code to "use the pptx skill" on your file.
Can I use the pptx skill in Claude Code on the Free plan?
No. Claude's pricing page shows Claude Code as "No" on Free and "Yes" on Pro and Max on 29 October 2026. Pro costs $17 a month billed annually ($200 up front) or $20 monthly. You can also run Claude Code with an API key. On Free, use the built-in skill on claude.ai instead.
Is Anthropic's pptx skill open source?
No. Its SKILL.md says "license: Proprietary", and the anthropics/skills README says the document skills are "source-available, not open source". Other example skills in the repository are Apache 2.0. The pptx licence forbids derivative works and copies outside Anthropic's services. The repository had over 184,000 GitHub stars on 29 October 2026.
Is there a Codex PowerPoint skill?
Not a dedicated one from OpenAI. Codex runs open-format skills from $HOME/.agents/skills, but OpenAI's openai/skills repository is deprecated and has no pptx skill, checked 29 October 2026. Don't copy Anthropic's pptx skill into Codex: its licence forbids copies outside Anthropic's services. Use an MIT-licensed community skill or write your own.
Why does Claude say .pptx is not supported?
Most likely because Anthropic's upload article, updated 23 July 2026, lists PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT, HTML, ODT, RTF, EPUB, JSON and XLSX for chat, not .pptx; .pptx uploads are unconfirmed. To work on an existing deck, use Claude for PowerPoint on Pro, the pptx skill in Claude Code, or upload a PDF export to rebuild.
Skill, add-in or connector: which should I use?
Use the built-in skill for a quick .pptx from a chat on any plan, Claude Code for decks from repository files, Claude for PowerPoint (Pro and up) inside your company template, and a deck-maker connector for a designed deck without code. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector, per its help centre on 1 October 2026.
How do I connect NOXI to Claude?
In Claude, open Customize > Connectors, click "+ Add", then "Add custom connector". Name it NOXI, paste https://mcp.noxi.ai/mcp from noxi.ai/connect, click Continue and Add, then sign in to NOXI and approve access. Turn the connector on in a chat and ask for the deck. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector.
