How to get PowerPoint for free, a NOXI blog cover: ten legal free PowerPoint routes, from PowerPoint for the web to ONLYOFFICE, scored on eight printed rules

Disclosure: NOXI publishes this page and is one of the routes scored. That's why the rules, points and the source of every cell are printed, including the rules where other routes lead NOXI.

Quick answer: How to get PowerPoint for free: use PowerPoint for the web with a free Microsoft account, or the phone apps on screens up to 10.1 inches; desktop PowerPoint is paid. On eight rules checked on 30 October 2026, ONLYOFFICE leads ten legal free routes with 88, then WPS 83 and Canva 76; NOXI is 5th with 73.

Searchers want two things: Microsoft's own answer with the fine print visible, and the strongest free way to open, edit and send a .pptx when Microsoft's free route is too narrow. Both are here, scored on the same printed rules, with no cracks and no trials dressed up as free.

How to get PowerPoint for free: 10 legal ways at a glance

On eight rules worth 100 points, checked on 30 October 2026, free desktop suites that open and save .pptx lead: ONLYOFFICE 88, WPS 83, Canva Free 76 and LibreOffice 75. NOXI is 5th with 73, and Microsoft's own free PowerPoint (web plus phone apps) is 9th with 65.

Where NOXI stands. NOXI is 5th of 10 with 73 points. It earns full marks on four rules: free with no time limit (W1), an editable .pptx (W2), free AI that drafts slides with a stated monthly allowance (W4), and no watermark or ads (W7). The four routes above it all have free desktop apps; three of them also edit a received .pptx in place.

Stacked bar chart of points out of 100 for ten legal free PowerPoint routes on eight rules, checked 30 October 2026: ONLYOFFICE 88, WPS Office 83, Canva Free 76, LibreOffice Impress 75, NOXI 73, Google Slides 70, Apple Keynote 68, Microsoft 365 free trial 68, Microsoft PowerPoint free on web and phone 65 and Office 365 A1 50, with Microsoft's own routes highlighted.
Microsoft's own free PowerPoint scores 65 because it has no free desktop app and no free AI; free desktop suites that save .pptx score highest.

Who should pick what

Each line rests on one documented fact, checked on 30 October 2026.

  • If you need Microsoft's own app and file for free → PowerPoint for the web, because Microsoft says "Microsoft PowerPoint for the web is free for anyone to use online" [1].
  • If you need a free desktop app that opens and saves .pptx offline → ONLYOFFICE, because its desktop editors are listed as free for Windows, macOS and Linux and "Open and edit PPTX, PPT, ODP, PPSX, and more" [6].
  • If you need no account, no ads and no subscription → LibreOffice Impress, because version 26.8 has "no advertising, no telemetry, no subscription, no account requirement" [9].
  • If you need design templates with some free AI → Canva Free, because its pricing page lists "Up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses" a month on Free [8].
  • If you need AI to draft a whole editable PowerPoint for free every month → NOXI, because each account gets 1,000 free credits a month, a deck uses about 25, and the .pptx export has no watermark [12].
  • If you work on a Mac, iPhone or iPad → Keynote, because Apple says "Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform remain free for everyone" [11].

Is Microsoft PowerPoint free? Microsoft's own answer

Microsoft PowerPoint is free in two places only: in a web browser with a Microsoft account, and in the phone and tablet apps on screens of 10.1 inches or less. Desktop PowerPoint for Windows and Mac needs a paid Microsoft 365 plan or a one-time Office purchase.

WhereFree?What Microsoft's page says (checked 30 October 2026)

Definition PowerPoint for the web is the free browser version of Microsoft PowerPoint, part of Microsoft 365 for the web (formerly Office). It opens, edits and saves .pptx files stored in OneDrive and needs only a free Microsoft account; desktop-only features such as Presenter View are not included.

How to use PowerPoint for free in a browser

Sign in on Microsoft's PowerPoint page with a Microsoft account ("Sign up or sign in using any email address"), create a deck or upload a .pptx to OneDrive, and edit it in the browser; files "must be saved in and shared from OneDrive". To keep a local copy, "use File > Download As to save your presentation locally as a .pptx" [1].

How we scored the 10 free PowerPoint routes

Each route earns plain points on eight rules that total 100, applied identically to every route, with NOXI scored by the same rules as the other nine. The rubric starts from our Arabic table of free PowerPoint routes, with the Arabic-only rules removed.

Scope rule. A "route" is a legal way to create, open, edit or save a PowerPoint file without paying; cracked copies and key resellers are excluded.

Method Scored on documented capability from official vendor pages opened on 30 October 2026. Not a new hands-on test. Plain points per rule; points total 100. Where two official pages of one vendor disagree, the vendor's pricing/plan page decides; where help pages disagree, the lower reading is used; where an official page is silent, the lower anchor is used, and the alternative total is printed as a sensitivity line. Ties are broken on W1, then W2, W3 and W4. NOXI's cells come from its product documentation.

Changed recently (October 2026): ONLYOFFICE released Desktop Editors 10.0 on 13 October; Apple's 14 October support note says Keynote is included with every new iPhone, Mac and iPad; Microsoft's US student page now offers 50% off Personal, while its education page still shows an older free-year line.

CodeCriterion (points)The rule, identical for every route
W1Free with no time limit (20)20 = free indefinitely for anyone (an account or a device may be required) · 10 = free only for an eligible group (students or teachers with a school email, nonprofits) or only on small screens · 0 = time-limited trial or offer of any length
W2Creates and saves an editable .pptx (15)15 = documented on the free route · 8 = documented with stated limits (visual differences, premium elements, conversion) or editability not stated · 0 = none
W3Opens a .pptx you received and keeps editing it (15)15 = opens the .pptx and saves it back as .pptx (edits the file itself) · 8 = imports or converts it into its own format, or rebuilds it as a new deck · 0 = cannot open .pptx
W4Free AI help to draft slides (15)15 = AI deck or slide generation on the free route with a stated recurring allowance · 8 = one-time or very small allowance, or no stated allowance · 0 = AI only on a paid plan, or no AI
W5Free desktop app (10)10 = Windows and Mac · 5 = one desktop OS · 0 = browser only
W6Free editing on phone or tablet (10)10 = a free app edits on phones and tablets · 5 = free editing limited by screen size, or phone-browser editing only · 0 = view only or none
W7No watermark, no ads (10)10 = neither on the free route · 5 = watermarks only on premium elements, or ads only · 0 = watermark on exports, or ads plus watermarks
W8No account needed (5)5 = create and save without any account · 0 = account required
Definition Editable .pptx is a PowerPoint file whose slides hold real text boxes, shapes and images you can change in PowerPoint, rather than pictures of slides. A route earns full marks on W2 only when its own page documents saving that file on the free route without stated visual differences.

Free PowerPoint routes compared: every cell and its arithmetic

ONLYOFFICE's 88 comes from full marks on six of eight rules; Microsoft's own free route reaches 65 because it scores 0 on free AI and on a free desktop app. "(v)" marks a cautious reading whose alternative is in the sensitivity list.

#RouteW1 (20)W2 (15)W3 (15)W4 (15)W5 (10)W6 (10)W7 (10)W8 (5)Total

Arithmetic. Each total is the plain sum of its eight cells, for example ONLYOFFICE 20 + 15 + 15 + 8 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 0 = 88 and NOXI 20 + 15 + 8 + 15 + 0 + 5 + 10 + 0 = 73.

The tie at 68. Keynote and the Microsoft 365 trial both total 68; the tie rule compares W1 first (20 against 0), so Keynote is 7th and the trial 8th.

Not scored: "free Microsoft 365 Premium for college students for 12 months". It is not a live offer on Microsoft's US student page on 30 October 2026 (see the student section), and any time-limited offer would score W1 = 0 anyway.

Where the gaps come from

  • ONLYOFFICE − NOXI = 15 points: W3 +7, W4 −7, W5 +10, W6 +5. Check: 7 − 7 + 10 + 5 = 15.
  • Canva − NOXI = 3 points: W2 −7, W5 +10, W6 +5, W7 −5. Check: −7 + 10 + 5 − 5 = 3.
  • NOXI − PowerPoint free = 8 points: W3 −7, W4 +15. Check: −7 + 15 = 8.
  • Who leads where: ONLYOFFICE, WPS, LibreOffice and Canva have free desktop apps; ONLYOFFICE, WPS, Canva, Google Slides and Keynote have free phone apps that edit; ONLYOFFICE, WPS, LibreOffice, Google Slides and PowerPoint edit a received .pptx in place.

How sensitive the order is

  • ONLYOFFICE 80 if AI that needs your own provider or a local model isn't counted as free AI (W4 = 0); WPS (83) would then be first and ONLYOFFICE 2nd. ONLYOFFICE 93 if it were documented as usable without an account (W8 = 5); no page says so.
  • Canva 61 if its Free AI uses don't count (W4 = 0): Canva's AI-access help page lists Premium AI as "available with" paid plans, while the pricing page gives Free 20 uses, and the pricing page decides. At 61 Canva would be 9th and NOXI 4th.
  • LibreOffice 80 if the Android viewer's "experimental editing support" counts (W6 = 5). Keynote 73 if no Apple Account were needed (W8 = 5). Office 365 A1 55 (W6 = 5).
  • NOXI 68 if editing by AI chat in the phone's browser isn't counted (W6 = 0). That ties Keynote and the trial at 68: W1 to W3 are level with Keynote, and W4 (15 against 0) lists NOXI ahead of Keynote; W1 (20 against 0) lists it ahead of the trial, so NOXI would be 7th.
Matrix of ten free PowerPoint routes against five questions: free in a browser, free desktop app, free phone editing, free AI and editing a received .pptx in place. ONLYOFFICE, WPS and LibreOffice have free desktop apps and edit .pptx in place; Canva and NOXI have free AI with a monthly allowance; PowerPoint free works in the browser and on phones up to 10.1 inches; the trial is free for one month.
No single free route covers browser, desktop, phone, AI and in-place .pptx editing; most people combine two.

PowerPoint for the web: what the free version leaves out

PowerPoint for the web edits the real .pptx for $0, but Microsoft's support page lists several desktop-only features, starting with Presenter View. It scores 65 here because the route has no free desktop app (W5 = 0) and no free Copilot (W4 = 0).

FeaturePowerPoint for the web (free)Microsoft's wording
Presenter ViewDesktop only"You need desktop PowerPoint to use Presenter View."
Outline and Master viewsDesktop only"Outline and Master views are only available in desktop PowerPoint."

Source: Microsoft Support, "How certain features behave in web-based PowerPoint", checked 30 October 2026 [1]. The one people miss most is Presenter View, which shows your next slide and a timer on a second screen.

9. Microsoft PowerPoint free (web + phone apps) 65 / 100

Free with no time limit (20). "Free for anyone to use online" with a Microsoft account. Editable .pptx (15). Download As .pptx. Opens a received .pptx (15). Opens and saves .pptx in OneDrive. Free AI (0). Copilot needs "Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription" or higher. Desktop app (0). The Mac app "requires a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription". Phone and tablet (5). Free core editing on screens up to 10.1 inches. No watermark or ads (10). No account (0).

Best when: you must deliver a PowerPoint file and want Microsoft's own app, at no cost, in a browser.

Is PowerPoint free on iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac?

PowerPoint is free to edit on iPhones, Android phones and tablets with screens of 10.1 inches or less; larger tablets, including iPad Pro, and the Mac desktop app need a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan. Microsoft's mobile support page says "all non-qualifying plans have a screen size limit of 10.1 inches" [2], and the Mac App Store listing says the app "requires a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription". On a Mac, PowerPoint for the web, Keynote, ONLYOFFICE, WPS and LibreOffice are free.

Is PowerPoint free on Windows 11?

Windows 11 does not include desktop PowerPoint for free. The free official route is PowerPoint for the web in Edge or Chrome; the desktop app comes with Microsoft 365 Personal ($9.99 a month or $99.99 a year in the US) or a one-time Office Home 2024 licence ($179.99) [3].

How to get PowerPoint for free as a student

Students get PowerPoint free through Office 365 A1, which scores 50 here: it is free with an eligible school email but covers only the web apps. Microsoft's page says "Educators and students with an eligible education email address can get Office 365 A1 for free", and A1 "Includes the web-based versions of core Office apps." [4]

Definition Office 365 A1 is Microsoft's free education plan for schools, students and teachers with an eligible school email address. It includes the web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint; the desktop apps come with the paid A3 plan, which a school buys for its users.
  • Check eligibility. Enter your school email on Microsoft's education page to see whether it is eligible.
  • What you get. PowerPoint for the web with your school account. The desktop apps come with Office 365 A3, which Microsoft lists at $2.50 per user a month under student licences, bought by the school, not by you [4].
  • When you graduate. Microsoft's FAQ says that when the plan expires, "you can view documents, but you cannot edit or create new documents" [4]. Download your .pptx files before your school account closes.

Is Microsoft 365 free for students in 2026?

Microsoft has run free-year student offers before; on 30 October 2026 the US student page offers 50% off Personal ($4.99 a month) [4]. Its terms say "You'll pay the same amount as your first month in every following month", school verification is required and payment details are needed at sign-up. Microsoft's education page still carries an older free-year line, but the offer page it links to decides.

10. Office 365 A1 (Education) 50 / 100

Free with no time limit (10). Free only for eligible students and teachers. Editable .pptx (15) and opens a received .pptx (15). It is PowerPoint for the web. Free AI (0). No Copilot deck generation documented for A1. Desktop app (0). Web apps only. Phone and tablet (0, v). Microsoft's mobile page limits non-qualifying plans to basic editing "for non-business accounts and files", and a school account is a work account. No watermark or ads (10). No account (0).

Best when: your school email is eligible and a browser is enough.

PowerPoint free trial: one month, a card, automatic renewal

The Microsoft 365 free trial scores 68 here: it gives full desktop PowerPoint and Copilot, but only for one month (W1 = 0), and Microsoft's FAQ says "a credit card is required for the free trial" [3].

Definition Free-trial auto-renewal means a trial that turns into a paid subscription on its end date unless you cancel first. Microsoft's FAQ says you are "automatically charged at the end of your first free month", so a trial is a free month of a paid plan, not a free plan.
  1. Start. Microsoft's try page offers a "1-month free trial" of Family, Personal or Premium; you sign in with a Microsoft account and add a card [3].
  2. Use. Install the desktop apps on Windows or Mac; Copilot in PowerPoint is included for the subscription owner, and Microsoft says AI features "cannot be shared" with family members [3].
  3. Cancel. Microsoft's support article says you can cancel your trial "within 30 days of signing up, and you won't be charged", from your Microsoft account's Services page [3].
  4. Repeat. Microsoft allows a new trial "one year after your trial or paid subscription ends" [3].

Can I download PowerPoint for free?

No legal free download of desktop PowerPoint exists. The Microsoft Store's PowerPoint page now leads to Office Home 2024, priced at $179.99 as a "One-time purchase" for one PC or Mac, with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote and no Copilot [3]. Free downloads that save .pptx are ONLYOFFICE, WPS and LibreOffice, scored below.

Plan (US, 30 October 2026)MonthlyYearlyDesktop PowerPoint · Copilot
Microsoft 365 Basic$1.99$19.99No · "AI features are not available in Microsoft 365 Basic."
Microsoft 365 Personal$9.99$99.99Yes · yes, 1 person

Microsoft's own UK and India pages show Personal at £8.49 a month or £84.99 a year, and ₹689 a month or ₹6,899 a year [3]. Paying yearly saves "up to 17%", by Microsoft's compare page.

8. Microsoft 365 free trial 68 / 100

Free with no time limit (0): one month. Editable .pptx and opens a received .pptx (15 each): full desktop PowerPoint. Free AI (8): Copilot in AI credits, no published number. Desktop (10), phone and tablet (10), no watermark or ads (10). No account (0).

Best when: you need desktop PowerPoint for one project this month and will set a reminder to cancel.

Free desktop apps that open and save PowerPoint files

ONLYOFFICE (88), WPS Office (83) and LibreOffice Impress (75) are free desktop suites that open a .pptx and save it back as .pptx, which is why they hold three of the top four places. Each vendor's own compatibility limits are quoted below.

1. ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors + mobile apps 88 / 100

Free with no time limit (20). The desktop page lists the price as free; version 10.0.0 was released on 13 October 2026 under the AGPLv3 licence [6]. Editable .pptx (15) and opens a received .pptx (15). "Open and edit PPTX, PPT, ODP, PPSX, and more." Free AI (8, v). "Generate slides from text" through "Pre‑installed connections to the leading providers, plus support for fully local models", with no allowance stated. Desktop app (10). "available for Windows, macOS, and Linux." Phone and tablet (10). "a free office app" for iPhone and iPad, and Android. No watermark or ads (10). No account (0, v). No page states it works without an account.

Best when: you want a free desktop editor that keeps working in the .pptx you received, on Windows, Mac or Linux.

2. WPS Office (free) 83 / 100

Free with no time limit (20). "Free forever — no trial expiry" [7]. Editable .pptx (15) and opens a received .pptx (15). "Open, edit, and save any .ppt or .pptx file." Free AI (8). WPS AI shows "2 Free Uses Available." Desktop app (10) and phone (10). "available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS." No watermark or ads (5). The App Store listing says "Contains Advertising". No account (0). WPS says "After users activate their account, they can sign in and use WPS" (14 September 2026).

Best when: you want one free suite on every device and can accept ads.

Is WPS Office free?

Yes. WPS states its free version is "Free forever — no trial expiry" and that it opens, edits and saves .ppt and .pptx on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS, checked on 30 October 2026 [7]. The free app shows ads, needs an activated account, and its AI shows two free uses.

4. LibreOffice Impress 75 / 100

Free with no time limit (20), no watermark or ads (10), no account (5). The Document Foundation's 26.8 release post (26 August 2026) promises "no advertising, no telemetry, no subscription, no account requirement" [9]. Editable .pptx (15) and opens a received .pptx (15). "LibreOffice 26.8 reads and writes DOCX, XLSX and PPTX files." Free AI (0). "LibreOffice 26.8 contains no generative artificial intelligence features" (28 August 2026), a deliberate choice. Desktop app (10). Version 26.8.2 for Windows, macOS and Linux. Phone and tablet (0, v). The Android app is "a viewer app" with "experimental editing support".

Best when: you want a fully open-source, offline suite with no account and no AI.

Is LibreOffice Impress compatible with PowerPoint?

Yes, with limits it states itself: LibreOffice reads and writes .pptx, and its help adds that "converted files require some degree of manual reformatting", naming AutoShapes, spacing and master backgrounds [9]. Check complex decks in PowerPoint for the web before sending them back.

Fonts are the most common surprise when a .pptx moves between apps: a font installed on one computer is swapped for another on the next. Our guide to embedding fonts in PowerPoint shows how to keep them. If you don't need the PowerPoint format at all, our PowerPoint alternatives guide covers more editors.

Google Slides and Keynote with PowerPoint files

Google Slides (70) edits a .pptx directly and saves it back, while Keynote (68) imports it and exports a new .pptx; both score 0 on free AI, which is paid in each.

6. Google Slides 70 / 100

Free with no time limit (20). "Anyone with a Google Account can create in Slides." [10] Editable .pptx (15). .pptx is among the Office types "that can be saved back to an Office format"; Google adds that "Embedded charts and videos in Word and PowerPoint files will be converted to images." Opens a received .pptx (15). "you can directly edit PowerPoint presentations, without having to make a copy." Free AI (0). Gemini in Slides "requires an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan." Desktop app (0): offline use runs in Chrome or Edge. Phone and tablet (10). The free app lets you "Create new presentations or edit existing ones". No watermark or ads (10). No account (0).

Best when: your class or team already lives in Google Drive and edits together. Our Google Slides vs PowerPoint comparison covers the trade-offs.

7. Apple Keynote (+ Keynote for iCloud) 68 / 100

Free with no time limit (20). "Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform remain free for everyone" [11]; Apple's 14 October 2026 note says it is "included with every new iPhone, Mac, and iPad." Editable .pptx (15). Exported files "can be opened and edited by Microsoft PowerPoint in .pptx format." Opens a received .pptx (8). "Import and edit Microsoft PowerPoint presentations", converting them to Keynote. Free AI (0). Turning an outline into a deck is part of Apple Creator Studio, in beta, at $12.99 a month or $129 a year. Desktop app (5). Mac only; Keynote for iCloud is a "web app for creating and editing presentations on a Mac computer or Windows device". Phone and tablet (10). iPhone and iPad. No watermark or ads (10). No account (0, v).

Best when: you work on Apple devices and export .pptx when someone needs PowerPoint.

Is Keynote compatible with PowerPoint?

Yes, by conversion: Keynote opens .pptx files and exports presentations that "can be opened and edited by Microsoft PowerPoint in .pptx format", as Apple's guide states, checked on 30 October 2026 [11]. Check fonts and animations after each round trip.

Free AI for PowerPoint decks: Canva and NOXI, with Copilot paid

Only two of the ten routes give free AI deck generation with a stated monthly allowance: NOXI with 1,000 credits a month (about 25 per deck) and Canva Free with up to 20 AI uses; Copilot in PowerPoint is paid.

3. Canva Free 76 / 100

Free with no time limit (20). "Canva Free is available to anyone." [8] Editable .pptx (8). PPTX download is "For presentations only", and designs "may look different when opened in Microsoft Powerpoint". Opens a received .pptx (8). Best when: you want AI to draft a complete, editable PowerPoint for free every month.

NOXI adds images where a slide needs one, and you can invite classmates by email to edit together in real time. Your presentations, prompts and files are not used to train AI models.

Free PowerPoint AI generator: what each route allows

NOXI and Canva Free earn 15 on free AI; ONLYOFFICE (AI through a provider or local model you connect, no allowance stated), WPS ("2 Free Uses Available.") and the Microsoft 365 trial (Copilot for one month) earn 8; PowerPoint free, A1, Google Slides, Keynote and LibreOffice earn 0, because their AI is paid or absent.

Chat assistants can draft slides too; our guide to making a PowerPoint in ChatGPT walks through that route, and our ranking of the best free AI presentation makers compares free allowances across more tools. For full editors scored on a different rubric, see our sister ranking of the best presentation software.

What these rules don't measure

These eight rules don't measure desktop power features, file fidelity, privacy or integrations, and several routes lead NOXI on those.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint: the original file format with no conversion, and desktop features such as Morph, macros and Presenter View that only the paid desktop app has.
  • ONLYOFFICE and LibreOffice: open-source licences (ONLYOFFICE under AGPLv3), Linux apps and, for LibreOffice, no telemetry and no AI by design.
  • Google Slides: Google Classroom and Drive integration, and a tool most classmates already use.
  • Keynote: animations, themes and Apple-device integration.
  • Canva: a large template and asset library with social and print formats.

Not measured for anyone: fidelity on your own complex decks, storage beyond the free tier, accessibility and privacy terms. Test your hardest deck before you commit.

Avoid cracked copies and "free product keys"

Every route on this page is legal and free. Microsoft says it "does not distribute products keys as standalone products", and that keys sold on their own are "likely stolen or counterfeit" [5]. It recommends that you "avoid auction sites and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing sites" [5]; use one of the ten routes above instead.

Worked example: a free PowerPoint setup for a whole semester

Example Priya Nair, a fictional first-year college student in Pune, receives a group .pptx from four classmates every week, presents from a 13-inch laptop, edits on an 11-inch tablet, and needs two new decks of her own each month. Prices are Microsoft's own India prices as shown on 30 October 2026.

Her setup: ONLYOFFICE on the laptop for the weekly group file, which it edits in place; PowerPoint for the web when classmates edit together, and on her tablet, whose 11-inch screen is above the free app's 10.1-inch limit; NOXI for her two new decks from a prompt, with research and source lines, and for one Fix formatting pass a month on the group deck.

Option for one yearCostArithmetic
A. Microsoft 365 Personal, paid monthly₹8,268₹689 × 12
B. Microsoft 365 Personal, paid yearly₹6,899Microsoft's India yearly price
C. ONLYOFFICE + PowerPoint for the web + NOXI₹03 decks × 25 credits = 75 credits a month, of 1,000

Check: 689 × 12 = 8,268; 8,268 − 6,899 = 1,369 saved by paying yearly; 3 × 25 = 75 credits, 7.5% of one account's monthly 1,000.

Her decision: option C. She avoids ₹6,899 a year, keeps every file as an editable .pptx her classmates can open, and reviews the setup on 1 February 2027. The group deck she fixes starts from an attached file, so NOXI's web research is off by default and the deck works from the figures her group wrote.

Horizontal bar chart of one year's cost for a fictional student in Pune: Microsoft 365 Personal paid monthly ₹8,268 (₹689 × 12), Microsoft 365 Personal paid yearly ₹6,899, and the chosen free setup of ONLYOFFICE, PowerPoint for the web and NOXI at ₹0, using 75 of 1,000 monthly credits.
Combining a free desktop editor, Microsoft's free web app and NOXI's free credits covers a semester's decks for ₹0 instead of ₹6,899 a year.

Build it: fix the formatting of a deck from any free app

A deck edited by five people in free apps often ends up with mixed fonts and uneven spacing; Fix formatting recreates it with consistent alignment, spacing and typography and returns an editable .pptx.

Prompt 1 · Fix formatting brief

Fix the formatting of the attached [group project] deck. Use one font family for all headings and one for body text, align every text box and image to the same grid, and keep every slide's text, numbers and order exactly as they are.

Prompt 2 · Fix one slide

On slide [6], turn the four bullet paragraphs into four numbered cards of equal size, keep each card under [20] words, and highlight the [survey result] in the accent colour.

Prompt 3 · Whole-deck pass

Across all slides, make the title sizes consistent, give every chart the same colour palette, and move each source line to the bottom left of its slide.

Step 1 — Save the deck as .pptx from your free app

In PowerPoint for the web choose File, then Download As, then .pptx; in Google Slides choose File, then Download, then Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx); ONLYOFFICE, WPS and LibreOffice save .pptx directly.

Step 2 — Choose Fix formatting

Open noxi.ai, create a free account (no card needed), and on Home choose More, then Fix formatting.

Step 3 — Attach the file and add a brief

Attach the .pptx (files up to 200 MB) and add a short brief, as in Prompt 1. With an attached file, web research is off by default, so every figure comes from your deck.

Step 4 — Watch the deck being recreated

NOXI recreates the deck with consistent alignment, spacing and typography; watch each slide being built.

Step 5 — Edit by AI chat

Ask the AI to change one slide or the whole deck, or click any element and say what to change, as in Prompts 2 and 3. On a phone, edit by AI chat in your phone's browser.

Step 6 — Download and keep editing for free

Download an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) with real text boxes and embedded fonts, or a PDF, and open it in PowerPoint for the web, ONLYOFFICE or any other free app above.

Frequently asked questions

Is PowerPoint free?
Partly. Microsoft says PowerPoint for the web "is free for anyone to use online" with a Microsoft account, and its phone apps edit free on screens up to 10.1 inches, as checked on 30 October 2026. Desktop PowerPoint for Windows and Mac needs Microsoft 365, from $9.99 a month, or Office Home 2024 at $179.99.
Can I download PowerPoint for free?
Not desktop PowerPoint. On 30 October 2026 Microsoft sells it in Microsoft 365, from $9.99 a month, or in Office Home 2024, a $179.99 one-time purchase. Free legal downloads that open and save .pptx are ONLYOFFICE, which scores 88 on our eight rules, WPS Office 83 and LibreOffice Impress 75.
Is PowerPoint free on Mac?
The Mac app is not free: its Mac App Store listing says it "requires a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription", checked on 30 October 2026. On a Mac you can use PowerPoint for the web in a browser for free, or Keynote, ONLYOFFICE, WPS and LibreOffice, which are free macOS apps that open and save .pptx files.
Is PowerPoint free on iPad and Android?
Yes on devices with screens of 10.1 inches or less: Microsoft's mobile page says non-qualifying plans "have a screen size limit of 10.1 inches", checked on 30 October 2026. Larger tablets, including iPad Pro, need a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan to edit in the app; PowerPoint for the web stays free in the browser.
How can students get PowerPoint for free?
Through Office 365 A1: students and teachers "with an eligible education email address can get Office 365 A1 for free", Microsoft says, but it covers the web apps only. On 30 October 2026 Microsoft's US student page offers 50% off Microsoft 365 Personal at $4.99 a month for desktop apps, not a free year.
Is the Microsoft 365 free trial really free?
For one month. Microsoft's FAQ says "a credit card is required for the free trial" and you are charged automatically when the free month ends, as checked on 30 October 2026. Cancel within 30 days of signing up to avoid a charge; a new trial is allowed one year after the last one ends.
Is WPS Office free and safe to use for .pptx?
WPS Office is free: it states "Free forever — no trial expiry" and opens, edits and saves .ppt and .pptx on five platforms, checked on 30 October 2026. Download it only from wps.com or official app stores. The free app shows ads and needs an account; it scores 83 of 100 on our eight rules.
Is LibreOffice Impress compatible with PowerPoint?
Yes, with stated limits. LibreOffice 26.8 "reads and writes DOCX, XLSX and PPTX files", and its own help says converted files "require some degree of manual reformatting", as checked on 30 October 2026. It is free, needs no account and scores 75 of 100 on our eight rules for free PowerPoint routes.
What is the best free alternative to PowerPoint?
On our eight rules, checked on 30 October 2026, ONLYOFFICE scores highest with 88: free desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux and free phone apps that open and save .pptx. WPS Office follows with 83 and Canva Free with 76; LibreOffice Impress, at 75, is the choice if you want no account at all.
Can AI make a PowerPoint for free?
Yes. NOXI gives every account 1,000 free credits a month, about 25 per deck, and exports an editable .pptx with no watermark; Canva Free gives up to 20 AI uses a month, as checked on 30 October 2026. Copilot in PowerPoint is not free: it needs Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium or Pro.
